Thank you **RHaseltine. **I will check with some friends over at DAZ 3D to find out more. What I find will be posted here.

@ haeressiarch:
The image is really good I think. I like the textured look of the character's skin markings. This is something I have been unable to do as of yet. In Bryce I can get textures to have depth, but in DAZ Studio I cannot even find any tutorials covering this subject in particular that is easy to follow. You even have the vein shading working correctly. Simply amazing!
Great job you did on this one.

As with you, I don't know much about ubersurface. What its capabilities are, and how well in works are two things I would like to know. Also, an easy to follow tutorial would be nice, preferably in document form. It may be nice to have new tools to work with; but if there is no instruction describing how to use it, that can be a source of frustration. You wouldn't put a new type of powertool on the market without instructions on how to use it.

Happy that you got it fixed. Your prop looks good, similar to a fantasy video game sword or machete. Perhaps you can post a link to your gallery so we can go there to look at it.
Stay awesome!

As an aside, a shader like HSS is not a plugin so it won't appear in the About Installed Plugins list.
*Thank you for clearing that up. I was only trying to cover all bases. The reason I suggested not reinstalling DS4 is because when I tried it, (my version was giving me the same problem), it did not fix it. Also, I did not reinstall the content library, since it was not the content that was causing the problem. I went through two weeks of frustration trying to fix the problem. I searched the internet every day, and finally I found the cause on my own. The specular and ambient settings were wrong. Reflection settings compounded the problem. So I backed off on the sliders for each, doing a test render each time. and began seeing improvements. It can be a problem when the workspace won't show the effects of what you do with those settings and with shadowing until it is rendered in 3Delight.
Anyway, if it will fix the problem, go ahead and reinstall. I hope it works for you.

is 4.5 Pro. i have a complete machine pc made for graphics (i5, 8gb ram, nv5500 geforce) since it's my normal job. i guess i'll have to dig deep inot the files then :(
sections in surface tab are ok to me (also i've checked same thing with tutorials and patterns from raw art for example to exclude my own mistakes)
i have also this communicate when launching Daz#d (when genesis figure is loading up with it) "Duplicate formulas found in files. Make sure that the content is properly installed. See the log for more details."
every single plugin is green light (except of "Freeimage" whatever that is)
so... what should i do now? reinstall? where can i find those HSS files?
please help
Go to DAZ 3D and put in a request at the help desk. There are several people there that can provide support for you. Just describe the problem in detail and submit the request. You may have to wait for a response but they will get to it.

i had hss shader form an older version of Daz3D and i've probably made that mistake. so... i hope that uninstalling the previous hss shader will fix the thing. if not, i'll spend rest of the day reinstalling whole daz3d and libraries :(
You shouldn't have to reinstall DAZ Studio and the Libraries, not just for a shader error.
Which version of DAZ Studio do you have? If it is 4.5 Pro, there are a lot of differences in it from earlier versions of DS4. I would suggest checking your plugins to see if they are all green. Also check to see if the hss shader installed correctly.
Also try going to the surfaces tab and checking all of the sections that have to do with colors including the sliders. This can have a large effect on how an image renders.
If you reinstall DS4, it may not fix the problem. You would just be reinstalling what is causing the problem along with it.
Another thing that might be causing the problem is whether your computer is at optimum performance level. Your processor may be having trouble finding what is needed to make the shader work correctly. This can be caused by several things to do with your hard drive. To fix this, if you have a Windows operating system, do a search using the following search words: 10 free ways to speed up my pc.

Software I can help with or help you find someone who can, are Bryce, DAZ Studio, & Blender. I am still learning to use UVMapper, Hexagon, Wings3D, & Gimp. Even so I have been able to do some fairly nice images, and a couple of short animations.
You are correct to tell me to be careful; however, most of us in the art community enjoy help each other, because it enriches what can and does get done. Plus we like having friends who are creative like ourselves.
This I suppose is my longwinded way of saying "You're welcome."

Happy to be of service. Practically all of what I have provided for you was provided for me by various other artists here at Renderosity, so I must give them the credit for the knowledge I pass on to you and others like you. It is one of the main things we are here for. Let me know if you have anything else concerning digital art you need help with. If I cannot help, perhaps I can help you find someone that can.

Here is the link to the video tutorial for the Bryce 7 Pro Instancing Lab.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnMpYrtfCv8&feature=plcp
I don't know if you know how to download YouTube videos, but in case you don't here are some simple to follow instructions:
Go to YouTube and find the video you wish to download.
Open a new tab at the top of your screen. A new window will appear.
In the address text box type keepvid.com and then hit enter on your keyboard.
Click on the YouTube tab at the top of your screen to return to YouTube.
In the YouTube address bar is the address for the video you are currently viewing. Click on it, right click and choose copy to copy the address.
6.Now click on the KeepVid tab at the top of your screen to go back to that site.
Paste the address you copied into the text box provided and then click on the download button to the right of it.
Wait for the formats list to appear, and when it does click the one that is correct for your computer, most likely it will be either MP4-480P or MP4-720P. sometimes you will see MP4-1080P, though this is rare for now at YouTube.
The download should start momentarily.
The difference between 480P and 720P is the file size. 720P has about twice as much as 480P measured in megabytes of memory space. Usually 480P is good enough for most videos for most computers; but if you have a fairly large monitor screen I recommend the 720P. If you are using a laptop, 480P is fine.
Hope this helps. ;-)
Thread: New Categories for Consideration | Forum: Suggestion Box
Thanks for the response, and your explanation concerning my suggestion.
If you look at what is available and at what can be done in multiple applications, in conjunction with the MS Office Suites, you would see that the possibilities and quite numerous. Also the word "art" covers far more than what is covered at sites such as this one. When I speak of the arts, I'm thinking about several genre. There are of course the visual arts, such as much of what is dealt with here; the audio arts, like music, sound effects and so on; the literary arts that include fiction and nonfictional writing, poetry and lycic writing; and so much more.
Not saying that this in not a great site, I actually love Renderosity. All the members here are among the most friendly anywhere; and I have been able to learn a great deal with their help, as well as lend a helping hand when I could. I shall continue to do so, because the value of such things is at best immeasurable.
The reason I started this thread is mainly to see how many might be interested in seeing new categories that cover things they like to use. Whether those categories are created is not for me to dictate, nor would I. I understand that there would need to be significant interest.

Can you post a link to this manual? As usual, I cannot find anything in the forums.
I would have sworn I had this manual, but with all my recent computer changes, I cannot find it.
Thanks!
Though I have already posted this in at least two other threads here at Renderosity, here it is:
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/bryce/start
I just had it open ealier today and found that it has 1257 pages rather than 1400+. So I am posting this correction here, and will do so in my other threads where I have the link posted. I did finally find something that is not in the guide, but it is easilty remedied if you know what to look for. I could find no reference to the Bryce 7 Pro Instancing Lab. Even so there is an excellent video tutorial covering that subject on YouTube's Bryce channel. It is one of the few video tutorials that are actually easy to follow. If you would like the link to that video let me know and I'll get it for you.
Thread: Daz Studio Pro 4.5 | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I don't have a Mac. My PC is a Toshiba Satellite, and I have no problems to report with 4.5 as far as loading .obj files. I modded a couple in Blender, and then imported them back into 4.5, and they loaded without any difficulty. I think when you import the file you need to pay attention to the scale options. Choosing the origin app's scale works for me.

@ animajikgraphics "Maybe Daz should consider farming out the creation of the manual to a 3rd party?"
In response to your statement above: That is what they did from what I've found. There is a series of about 50 PDF documents made by various people that can be found and downloaded through one of the threads at DAZ 3D. They are made for the DS4.x versions; but, (and here is the rubs you the wrong way about it), they are all WIPs (Works In Progress). Also it looks as though they have been abandoned, because most of them have not been updated for nearly two years! I won't be posting the link to the thread here because it is not worth anyone's time to download most of them. A lot of important information has been left out; which originally was to be added as updates, but those updates never materialized.
Just for comparison's sake, I will mention the Bryce 7 Artist's Guide. It is a PDF document with well over 1400 pages of good easy to follow instruction and relevant screen captures covering just about everything there is in Bryce 7, and it is somewhat backwards compatible with B6.x versions. It calls itself a WIP, but I have not found any information to date that is missing from it. Because of this guide, I have been able to learn a great deal about Bryce 7. If you are interested in acquiring the guide, you can find the link in the Bryce forum in a thread I created called "The Bryce 7 Artist's Guide".
Anyway, my point is that it is odd that such a guide can exist for some apps offered by DAZ 3D, but for their most popular app there is only a series of woefully incomplete guides; which inadequately cover certain aspects of the software. Not that I don't think the app is great, but I am old enough to remember when quality and good instruction were important. It seems that these days, that type of thing is rare. Most people these days are about getting things done fast and forget about quality. Yes, I include understandable instruction as a big part of quality.
Sorry about that! I just needed to get it out.
