Thread: External Hosting of Freebies: Is there a solution? | Forum: Freestuff
Quote - If you want to make a few extra bucks, consider putting something in the Marketplace.
I don't consider my stuff good enough to charge people directly for it. That's why I like the idea of ShareCG which shares advertising revenue basically. People get what they want for free and I may get a nickel here and there in the process. Not much but a nickel is better than nothing.

Thread: External Hosting of Freebies: Is there a solution? | Forum: Freestuff
Never mind. I seem to have it figured out.
It seems pretty pointless to post in the Renderosity freestuff forum. No one will be able to find my stuff. My only alternative seems to be to use ShareCG as my exclusive host. Renderosity generates probably 3 times as many "hits" and downloads as ShareCG, however, if I'm not getting anything out of it, then it is counter productive to feature my stuff on Renderosity instead of forcing the consumer to visit ShareCG in order to get it.

OK. Next question, how do I create links like you have in your sig. My sig has the link spelled out in long form. I just want the link to be titled: "My Freestuff".

Hmm. Sounds like ShareCG isn't all that great. Oh well. I guess I shouldn't quit my day job...no matter how miserable I am. Bad day at work today... :(

Thread: when would a model become my own | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - when would a model become my own?
I have a model of a train paid for.
I have taken said model and chopped it up.into about 8 sections. removed parts of the body. copied other parts and added them. changed the scale of others.
so how much do I have to change to make it my own to do with as I wish,
with out sued?
or would I have to start all over. even if I liked the shape so much that if I did start over it looked like the first one after I had finished chopping?
Just out of curiosity, why do you want to make it "your own"? Do you want to sell it or distribute it? I personally don't see harm in taking someone elses model and mincing it up a bit to create some secondary product you need such as an animation or something like that. In that case you should credit the original author who created the original model just as you would if you had used the original model in its original form. I think most models are intended for people to use them in animations or graphics of some sort. I would think you could do this without being sued so long as you give proper credits or abide by the rules of the creator.
At first glance, I don't understand why anyone would want to sell or distribute something, even in part, which was created by someone else.

Thread: Renderosity Freebie Posting Policy Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you for the response LaurieA.
I've browsed the forums a little more and, yes, I see that is the case. Plus I looked at the upload policy. I guess things have changed now. Once upon a time people could advertise their own links in the upload section, which is nice to be able to do. Renderosity has since forbidden this practice. However, this undercuts the best interests of 3D producers IMO. It may serve the interests of the consumer but it also hurts a the consumer a bit because there will be more offsite hosting of freebies instead of a centralized place to locate them all.
I've posted in the community forum if you want to have a look. I'm asking if anyone knows of any compromise or solution to the dilemma: Who's interests should Renderosity cater to, the consumers or the producers?

Thread: Digital Creations Freebies | Forum: Freestuff
Quote - I saw that coming. I have a feeling that you're the first in a long list. I think most folks who have their own site will no longer be posting their freebies here. The whole purpose of folks posting site links was to create more traffic to their sites, but with this new system it's impossible. They are alienating people with this new system.
Wow, just when I discovered ShareCG. :(
I was going to host my freestuff there and have a link from Renderosity to that site. This is a major bummer that we can't post links to other sites in the freestuff upload section. I was hoping to make a few extra bucks off my 3D labor, but it seems that Renderosity doesn't want to help me in that endeavor. Why doesn't Renderosity care about the economic welfare of its 3D artists who post freebies?
Consider me one of the alienated. :(
