Okay, that didn't take long. Geometries into C4D, deform and export as .OBJ still had wrong vertices, with or without Scaler. Geometries file saved as new file didn't work. I then navigated from "add morph target" straight to the original Geometries file - I didn't know how wise it was importing from a file while I had the same item (Male Head) open in Poser, but what the Hell - and THAT didn't work. Perhaps I'm stubborn, but I want to make this thing function. I don't know whether there are any other ideas out there. I'm very impressed with the openness and helpfulness of the Poser community: if there aren't any other suggestions, thanks anyway.

Thanks for the advice, each of you. I'd thought of making a prop; being new to this, I wanted partly to see if I could do it the "official" way. For that reason mainly, I'm going to try using the Geometries file. God knows why Poser 3 would have a facility which doesn't seem to work, but if there's a way around it, the program is so neat I can live with it. Thanks again.
