I'm using SreeD with a wireframe preview window. Otherwise I'll get a crash every 2 mins. My video driver is the latest, I tried that as well. And funny that it doesnt really matter what I have open. I usually have 3d studio and Photoshop, plus iTunes + windows mail + some IMs and a few Internet Explorers. But they dont slow down or make my Poser crash more or less. I've tried closing everything.

Most of my crashes are when using "pop-down" menus on Poser (for example, that menu on the material room that allows you to pick another material to edit, or when you right click the top-left of the preview window to pick a different camera, or when you select another body part). I never got a crash during rendering, but I did get one once when I canceled rendering.

Don't even bother arguing about the minimum requirements. The damn program don't even run well on machines way way better than the recommended!

I just hope they release a Service Pack real soon for Poser 8, and that it solve the problems.

My Windows has always been set to disable the 2nd GPU. I play World of Warcraft windowed and that doesn't work well with SLI.

I'm very disapointed with how slow and "crashy" Poser 8 is. Poser Pro NEVER EVER crashed on me, and it was so much faster than P8...
My problems with Poser 8 that were not a problem in Poser Pro:
2) I play World of Warcraft on this PC and I get 60 FPS everywhere, and I find it amazing that my preview window on Poser 8 gets 0.5 FPS, even if I set it to display only the wireframe.
3) I have a Nvidia GeForce 9800GX2, 1GB of VRAM, 4GB of system RAM, and a Q6600 CPU (quad core). I've updated my video drivers to the latest, and still if I turn on OpenGL preview rendering on my Poser it will crash after a couple minutes of use.
4) Even without OpenGL, if I turn on the highest form of preview rendering (shaded/textured), P8 will crash after a couple of minutes.
5) Even without OpenGL and shared/textured preview rendering, P8 will crash every hour of use in average. Sometimes when canceling a rendering, sometimes when switching objects, sometimes when just skipping frames.

Mostly it crashes when switching between body parts in the Material window. But with me it's been crashing all around. Second favorite place to crash was when editing a light on the Pose window.
Thread: Poser 8 crashes when going to material room, everytime. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hey, I lowered the preview window quality to not show textures, and it didn't crash yet... I know it looks terrible but if it really solves the crashes I'm going with it until they release a service pack. Try it and post back here your results if you can.

Quote - however if I use the drop down menu to select a material it will 'sometimes' crash.
Happens to me too. Most of my crashes are because of that little drop down menu. Funny how yesterday after I switched to SreeD (preview rendering) it worked for hours of intense usage without a single crash.

My Poser 8 was crashing a lot, then someone told me it could be a OpenGL issue related to outdated video drivers, so I switched to SreeD software rendering and it worked just fine for the entire night. Now, this morning, still using SreeD, its crashing all the time.
Running Vista Home Premium. Could it be a Vista problem?
PS: I've updated my video drivers and still no improvements.

Even with all the crashing I've seen, that never happened to me, and it never crashed on me while rendering. Only while using the interface.

By the way, confirmed: My just switching to software rendering on the preview window the crashes stopped. I didnt even updated my video driver. I'll try updating as well, but glad the problem is gone now.
One thing however, on the Material window, moving the materials around is so slow! It was so fast in Poser 7 (pro), and either with OpenGL or software rendering they're slow to drag around in Poser 8. You can see them redrawing at each step they move. Not sure if this is also only on my PC...

Oh, on that video card / preview window topic, I've heard that the Quadro professional video cards will allow antialiasing on the preview window, as well as real high resolution textures and even specular maps. Do you know if thats true?

Yes, its a couple of months out of date. I'm downloading the latest one to try. I have a Nvidia 9800GX2 (2 GPUs in 1 card). Seens weird to me that
Would it help to just not use OpenGL rendering for the interface window?
