goodbye summer day,
now under a darkling sky,
warm, diamonds bright
ย
Iย can imagine. It's strange, the power of words...I can almost feel the oppressiveness of the summer here liftย reading your Haiku.
I'll be heading home soon for the weekend. I may not be able to access the net over the next two days. If so, I hope the thread will continue; reading some of these beautiful Haiku helps me handle the heat. :) And connect with people. :)

Oh lovely! You caught something so oriental in yours.
lovers of coolness
gave one glad cry this morn, now
silenced by the Sun
The sun's out now and hotter than ever before.

Absolutely great!
I love these Haiku! I thought the thread had stopped; I'm so glad it didn't.

Air, dry with longing,
Now with myriad droplets,
Sings a green, new song
ย
It rained this morning, and the street outside is flooded with black, gutter water, but how green the trees are.

summer dog:

I love that! I can just feel it!
bliss...i dream..
to waken rudely
in heat haze
Sorry, I didn't use breeze in the last one. I started with it, and then it changed without my remembering that 'breeze' was the first word. Sorry!

Hi Marlene!
You know, I like the challenge. The last word and keep within the topic... I like it, though it's tougher.
Vivid imagery, yours! :) That's what's happening to me everyday.
parched wind, warm,
searching wistfully
for wetness

Great Haiku everyone!ย Sorry it took a while for me to get back; time zones are funny-when I'm asleep, others are awake.
I intentionally didn't mention about the last word/letter being the next one's starter because i wanted to leave more freedom, but if you want to use the last word/letter to start your next one- go ahead. Only the theme is constant - 'Summer'
Here's another-
brooding heat,
the sun's weight crushes;
tempers fray

Thanks David!
Good to be back!
Just a question- how do you get those pics up under your name in the threads?
Thread: Summer Haiku? | Forum: Writers
Ok, sorry, couldn't resist that...
Seriously now-
shimmering heat haze,
eyelids burn with dusty sting;
summer commuting
I have to commute two hours to work and two hours back (about 54 Kms totally). I suppose that figures..
Here's another in the 3-5-3 form-
sweaty back,
ragged bloodshot looks,
bus driver

I like the idea, Jon. For me, reading something is not just an intellectual exercise, but a view into somebody's heart and mind, and often life. I, for one, would like to know who wrote what, because that connects me to the person, and not just the writing, and I'd like people to know that what they're reading was written by me, as well. And since the competition is now out, having the names on makes a lot of sense. hanevi.

Good to have you back. I like the new challenge set up, and I do hope that it will catalyse the improvement of all our writing as time passes. Personally looking forward to the poetry one. :) Regards.

I'm sorry to hear that, Dido. I do hope you'll pull through with all the pressing responsibilities.
My cousin and his wife, just about escaped, but others haven't been so fortunate, and I keep feeling this terrible groan from the earth that defies words and colours.

A delightful read, friend Jon! Your wish for Summer to be gone, And Winter, too, I must say, I agree; they must both go away! What does one do when one Bakes till one is well-done? Or shivers with shameless cold Like a Bedouin at the North Pole? Nay, 'tis Fall, and Spring forsooth, Moderation's fair forms, so ruth, The elixir of life to us now Who have no energy to leap like cows. Pause But stay! 'Tis Springstorms accursed That cause innocent modems to burst, And it was in the Fall that I fell Ill, with a throat sore as Hell! Zounds! The whole year is alive With controversy worse than a hive, I am confounded, alas and alack, I am too old and cannot turn back. Age, thou merciless, fell foe Of waistline, and harmless toe, Thou hast blighted our very souls, And made us fearful of heat and cold. And so I sit here and write To forget the year and its slights, For let me add, the incessant rain Is dripping into my tired brain. Blessed is he with seasons, but four, We have five, and that's one more Than what you guys have; worse luck, To sit here and pretend I'm a duck. If that sign's not a dream, and put up at all, Please be so kind as to give me a call. At the time of writing, the guest room has part of its wall an inch and a half thick in white mould. I have never seen anything like it. But seriously, great read, Jon. :) I do miss reading and writing humour in these days of frenetic activity.
