Had something like this happen to me a while back when saving some objects to the library. Ended up with many but not all of my objects disappearing and being replaced by white squares in one of my libraries. Near as I could figure, the Presets/Objects/User/______.obp file got corrupted. I deleted the questionable one, copied another user library and renamed it, and reinstalled my objects. (I also discovered you can only add 14 User libraries - you can add more but they won't be visible on screen.)

I couldn't render the Mil Dragon, either, until I switched from Win98 to XP recently. Had the same trouble with a Bryce picture I set up - almost 2 million polygons. Don't know if this is the only solution to the problem, though .....

I was having the same problem with Win98, too, before I found Cacheman. Now I set up a scene & save it, then free up memory with Cacheman and render. This works for a while (12 or 15 renders), but the amount of memory that gets freed seems to get smaller & smaller, and eventually I freeze when trying to render again. At that point, shutting down & restarting the program doesn't help, I have to reboot the whole system. (I hope XP works better when I get it installed ....)
