If you set one parameter to zero, the resulting figure is flat, with no rounded edges that I can detect. Setting the 'z' dimension to zero means it has no depth in that dimension, hence no rounded edges.

I can do that, but when I re-import the file, I get the object with no color, no texture, etc., and no way to put the color back in, since the item (a house) is all one piece now. Seems like I maybe can't do what I want here. The house I refer to is shown in my other message, one newer than this one.

Thread: Bryce Export | Forum: Bryce
Okay, here's my predicament. As Juluka42 says, I can go through this procedure and export items that came with Bryce. But if I try to export an 'obp' file which I got from 'free stuff' (one of tonylynch's models) and put into my Bryce library, my system crashes. Why do the 'free stuff' items crash my system on 'export', but the 'built in' objects (also 'obp' items, work fine on export?

Triangles are easy, once the light dawns, pdblake. You just add a cone, then set either the 'x' or 'z' dimension to zero. That gives you a flattened cone, otherwise called a triangle. From then on, it's easy, since adjusting the 'y' and the remaining parameters will give you the shape you want. Not sure if you can make a triangle with unequal sides (non-symmetrical). I haven't tried that.

Wadus, you are correct, except that 3DS is not one of the export options, curiously, since Bryce does allow importing 3DS. It's also strange to me, seeing that both Bryce and Poser originated with MetaCreations, that the two applications are not more compatable with each other. I have found it somewhat difficult to move things from one to the other, especially from Bryce to Poser.
Thread: Opening Bryce Objects in Poser | Forum: Bryce
Correction to my previous response: I tried to save as an 'obj' file. I do not have the option (in Bryce) of saving as a '3DS' file. My options are dxf, id4, lws, rds, wrl and obj. However, trying to export as any of these crashes Bryce and sometimes my entire computer. I'm trying to export by selecting the object, selecting 'E' (for edit) and clicking 'command-D', which brings up the export pull-down menu. It's at this point that I crash Bryce when I try to export.

Thanks, pervers, for your response. I tried this and crashed my system every time I tried to save the object as 3DS. Maybe some problem in my files. I'll check out the thread you cited.
Thread: A simple question on height... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't know that it matters. You can make her any height you wish by selecting 'body' and adjusting 'scale' up or down.

Bit of a followup to suggestions by JeffH and Harie: both methods work, but exporting and re-importing 'obj' files eliminates the ability to color the parts differently, or to adjust sizes of parts. harie's trick works for me, leaving me the ability to adjust and color individual parts separately. Good trick! Wonder why that works and parenting to other parts doesn't?

Thanks for the responses. I had thought of the JeffH solution, but hadn't tried it yet. As long as I keep everything in its original orentation as far as rotations go, I have no problem. It's when I try to rotate something 45 degrees and parent that things go crazy. Thanks again for the responses.

In Bryce, 'create' a wall with one of the create objects, then 'edit' the wall by selecting the surface you want (rocks, etc.). Make the wall fill your window, render it and 'save as' a file that you can open in Poser, such as TIFF. In Poser, create a surface (one sided square, etc.) and go into 'render' and 'materials' and select the file you just saved in Bryce. When you render, you have your textured wall. This will work for anything you can create in Bryce as a surface, then 'save as' in a format compatable with Poser textures.

Nice. Has a southwestern look about it. There are some great rock textures in Bryce that can be imported into Poser for walls, etc. Even a good wood floor texture, marble, etc.
Thread: How can you build your own clothes for Poser with MAX | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks for the tip, mjustmike, but unfortunately, Rhino only works on PC's and I use a Mac. It's also rather expensive (I think) at $795 a copy. Or maybe this is usual for that kind of software. Maybe someday, more people will recognize the importance of the Mac in computer graphics. There are also other platforms coming along, some of which may truly rival windows in the near future. Okay, I'll quit with that. I know that's not a popular refrain.

I'd like to ask the question in a more general way. What is the best software for creating clothing for Poser? And, while I'm at it, what is the best software for creating 3D objects (tables, etc.) for Poser? It ain't Bryce, as I've found out.
