the amount of cash given depends on the number of people who join the contest. obviously the more people try the bigger the incentive to win. the cool display item... i'm not sure. as there will only be one given out per year, it would have to be pretty cool. it will likely be something physical, sort of like an oscar (but with more meaning!) vendors have already talked to me about wanting to sponsor the contest. i'm not sure who would give away speciic props or sets, and who would give away certificates redeemable for anything in their store. and "photography" means, when you render (with any program i can think of) you are viewing the scene through a "camera" and thus, you have control over aspects like camera movement, camera angle, tracking the "actor" vs. letting them walk off screen, etc. treat it as if you were a real director of photography and your camera isn't virtual. what would you do with a real camera? hope that clears it up!

hey all! i'm going to federal agent training for 4 months. it'll be a few weeks before i'm back on the boards here. in the meantime, think about your animation entry. it should showcase talking, action, non-action (standing or sitting or dying... something where small movements make it realistic) and an original track for sounds, not from another movie. i'll have a site up soon specifically for these entries. until then, happy rendering!

good deal! i'm going to be putting a website together soon with all the things i'm looking for in submissions, and a list of those who want to sponsor it and what they're providing. thanks!

sounds great! my goal is to showcase the abilities of the cheaper, more "low-end" 3d programs. i don't know much about carrara, but if you think it's the kind of program people would turn their noses up at (if they were 3d snobs!) then let's include it. this also includes all the other smaller programs. terragen, mojo world, etc.

good deal! i'm also going to ask merchants to sponsor this contest. maybe donate a prop or cd collection of props or textures to the winner. i'm going to start building the site very soon. thanks!

i was thinking that would be cool. i really want people to showcase what can be done with freeware (wings, blender...) and el cheapo programs (non-lightwave, maya, 3ds max, cinema, ei universe, etc...) i'm officially calling for sponsors! if you're interested in sponsoring a contest this big, let me know! thanks!

hmm... i have vue d'esprit for terrains, and ozone will be a nice add-on, but i'm looking for reasons to buy v4 pro and i'm just not seeing any reason to. thanks for the honesty! ren

here you go: 1)the pic is very pale, like the haze is turned way too high. show off some textures by taking away so much haze. 2)the textures on the cliff are a bit repetitive. 3)that's either one big ass cat or two tiny dinos! :) 4)what's that dark triangle on the edge under the dino (above the "2 days" in the message?) 5)looks peaceful. i dig it. 6)i like the water. 7)try this as a widescreen render, like 16:9. i think that'll make it a bit more interesting. i'm no pro... i don't even have a gallery here. but i know what i like, and what i don't like. and this ain't bad. ren

shade is the product of e-frontier, a japanese company who i believe just took over the parent role for curious labs. i guess it's like owning them but not exactly.

so this is why curious labs has been MIA lately. well maybe we'll have a better company running the show. seems like curious labs of late has been a little different than i was used to. all this and daz|studio to be out soon. seems like the entire face of ready-made characters is evolving.

i guess one could get the free daz base, free sara, and then free blender to make all the clothes/props needed. animation can be done in blender too i think. some things are free, but they take as much will power as anything else. ren
