There is/was a free version of Amapi available at Eovia & or some 3Dmagazine Cd (don't recall when). Also Pixels3D is free and is a great modeler, animator. It dosn't export obj so requires some macinations. Meshworks is a shareware modeler for around 30.00 & may work, I know pople use it for gaming models.

Note, make sure to make back-up copies of your old OpenGL extensions & ATI drivers before you install the new ones just in case your set-up dosn't like the new drivers. Or, just drag them out of your system folder & into a temp folder on your desktop. Normally there are several pieces in the download (up to 7 ATI drivers & maby 6 OpenGL extensions). Also, in the Prefrences for RDS > Shaded Preview, select RAVE Hardware in the pull-down selector instead of RAVE Software or RayDream ZBuffer. This will tell the app to use the video card you have installed. Finally, sometimes the hardware acceleration will not work if the screen resolution isn't set high enough. try a couple different settings for your screen to see what happens, You should try this app called SwitchRes: http://www.madrau.com/

Whoops, guess I shouldn't type in the dark. That should read in "your" extensions folder (not the RDS application folder extensions). Actually, they should be in your Macs extensions folder within the Systems Folder. You can get the latest extensions from Versiontracker at: http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=391&db=mac Check to see if there are current drivers included for the Radeo card within the download, Apple normally includes them with the latest extensions but not always (depends on when the're released).

There are a couple MacUsers who frequent the site from time to time. Note that there is also a Macintosh forum for general "stuff" about the Mac platform. Don't know for sure but looking at the download numbers for PC Only VS Mac Only versions of the same file it appears that about 1/3 are Mac downloads. Not sure if that's "scientific" but is interesting. As for OpenGL well, it's an "Open" source code. That means that are are several "versions" of it. I'd download the latest from Apple & trash the others (or store them on your desktop in a seperate folder until you know you don't need them).

Should be the full version with the items you mentioned as long as you have a ligit copy of RDS 5.5, you could call Eovia to verify though.

Another option if you can't get the installer to work: If you still have your old machine then re-install a fresh copy of RDS to the old (really old, but still nice!) 7100. Then get an Ethernet Crossover cable to connect the two machines together via the 10/100 base T. Start File Sharing, open the Chooser to connect the machines & copy the RDS app to the Powerbook. Then run the "Fix" updater.

Get the "Fix" for OS 9 here:http://raystew.virtualave.net/downloads/os9fix.html Make sure to update before trying to launch the application. There is a problem in that a couple of the RDS extensions need to be locked, I don't remember which ones. By the way, nice machine. I have a G3 Pismo & love it. Not sure about the install problem itself, make sure to trash any vestige of the previous pieces & perhaps rebuild your desktop file before re-installing?
