My apologies... I didn't mean to offend anyone. Yes, I do have a PC and memory is a big issue.

Thanks Tiny, that was a neat example of using Dynamic hair and styling. Was that the Millenium Cat you used (Furred Cat) as an example? Hope to see more. jlovesart aka JBWStar

It would be a dream if they have it were it can be V3 texture compatible without trying to remake the texture or to use a UTC texture plug-in...
Other than that, we'll see...

Thread: How can I make a bump map while using P5... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, Plutom...
Glad u mentioned.
I didn't do anyting in the Materials Room -- although its rendered on Poser 5. No changes or anything w/ Materials Room. Just worked on the 3d.sk resource text I got last year and put it on my character [can u believe it; almost a year - ;-)]
Just used some of Corel PhotoPaint 11 and some of PS CS8 for some details. Had to redo some of the skin tones: it gets too dark, or too red, or too brown, or too blech. I like the the light complection look. Something more photorealistic.
So it's basically my paint programs, P5, used Danae's Pro Light System from MP, and 3Dream's Egypt Hair, and my V3 charater I'm working on called iRene. For me, lighting seems to play a pivotal role in my renders.
But all I did to achieve some bump map, I had to use the texture I did and turn it greyscale and I curve the tone down to get the effect -- whatever it is. Still need to know how other artist who worked with textures - especially photo-real ones, did theirs in turns of lighting the lips and brows.
Will need to get my lacrimals in place, though. Other than that, I think I did a good job. I just hope I don't take away from someone ele's work -- that I don't need. But I'll still maintain my question for an answer through what you recommended aforementioned.
In closing...
Thank you Plutom for your reply and your support. Hope to get more soon.
Hope your Easter's is peacful and plentiful.
Later,
jlovesart
aka JBWStar --PS-- Just in case I forget, I used MAT Pose Edit 3.13 for all the neat trimmings and such - especially for my textures. I didn't have to use Materials Room to rechange the bump map I did from Gradient Bump to "Bump", it stayed there automatically with no changes.

Thread: DAZ'S NEW MARCH MADNESS ITEM!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, it was nice for Daz to do that anyway... not to mention it's almost $20 retail. Hate to cough up $.43, which is nothing -- oh well! I need a character pack anyway. Just what else will Daz pull up from their sleeves remains to be seeing. ;-) jlovesart aka JBWStar

Thanks... I will. Hopefully I'm not alone on my quest for this issue.
I been rattling my brain in the middle of the night working on a texture for my V3 character. Then working on the bump map. I hope to post an image of this and see if I can get some insights.
I have Corel PhotoPaint, though it's not as popular as say, PaintShop Pro or Photoshop 5/CS8. I got both PS CS8, but never use it, for its complex way doing layers (in my opinion).
In order to make it a bump map, I was recommended to make the texture greyscale. On top of that, work on the lips and eyebrows to make them lighter (like Daz's V3 maps). I was actually stumped with that matter. Now w/ P4 [now Artist], you can make a bump map through a jpeg, but with a long file size -- aaaargh! :)
But, I'll see if paint program forums can give me some input.
Thanks Plutom...
Have a good Easter Holiday.

That's true enough... I been thinking long and hard on what I need to do. Getting a RAM is one of them. Thank you so much for all replies. Just wanting to know how some of coming along w/ P6 since the heydays of P5. Will it become a great improvement over 5 or will there be some glitches? Who knows... Thank you, thank you, thank you...
I am getting positive replies.
"That ATI graphics card is still pretty decent. It fits quite well with the specs of the CPU. Must have been pretty high end 3 years ago when you bought it."
It sure is. I never had a problem with video graphics... Now, needing more RAM may be to my best interest at this point.
"The best you can do is adding more RAM. Don't stop at 512 Mb, try to go for at least 768 Mb. Windows XP and all your programs will love it.
What kind of hard disk do you have? It might be worth to add a big fast second disk, say a 160 GB 7200 RPM ATA133 drive with 8 Mb or 16 Mb cache. Again, your OS and all your apps will love that."
I have been dreaming of updating both hard drive and RAM.
I currently have a 40GB Hard drive with only 10GB used. Don't sound like a good sign does it? I believe - since I have a Dell 4400, that I have 2 hard drive storages [I might be wrong], and was considering getting a second hard drive to do the job, but more importantly a faster RAM would do the job.
Been relying on 256 RAM - that was '03, now since all these new things coming up, memory is key.
I really appreciate all the replies I'm getting so that I'll know what to prepare and what to expect.
Sorry for bringing out my computer specs since this is a Poser forum and not the Computer Tech forum -- lol... I'm just fascinated with all the things Poser.
Looking forward to more input.
Thanks,

P.S. to svdl(Steven) - I have worked with P5 and tried your Dynamic Clothing (which by far are the best... Keep up the good work) - would love to show you some works I did with them. Will you be making some more for P5 and possibly 6?
Have a great evening.

Thanks Deecey for your reply.
I will be considering more RAM to 2 256 cards if I can. My concerns are a better video card or adapter. Since I mentioned that I have a ATI Rage 128 Ultra GL AGP [Whatever it is]. If I have to invest on a video card since I have a 3 year old 'puter, is GeForce the best or can I get a reasonably-priced video card? I can imagine what the cost of a NVidia is -- hey, who knows, I can be fooled.
I can't wait 'til they ship the software out. I wish they would sell both the Poser 6 and/or the Special Edition [when they last]. I'm looking at those who may have purchased Shade 7 and don't need a second CD of the application. Shucks, I won't get paid 'til Friday :-((... Well, as they say, Good Things Come To Those Who Wait.
I would love to receive some more replies, advices and recommendations...
Keep 'em coming!

Thanks again, SilverElf for that info... I just purchased your lip+tubes for V/S3. They are excellent and worth the price. I should go to PoserPros more often then I do with Daz3d for my 3D needs. I like their prices on their stuff and so much more. I can't wait to get my hands on Cimerone's Makeup and More. Again, thanks for all the replies. I welcome more! Until then...
