Not very hard, apparently. From page 57 of the manual, located in under a minute:
To use a dot, simply click it. The stored settings are applied to
your scene. To clear a memory dot (delete its information and
make it appear empty again), press and hold [OPT]/[ALT] while
clicking the memory dot you wish to erase.

OK, a couple of other suggestions:

a bit of supplemental lighting, maybe a (weak) point light in the alcove

this one's a cheat, but before getting into that, why do you have the couch texture plugged into diffuse value? Pull it out of there and plug it into Ambient Color, make Ambient Color white and make the Ambient Value very small: try 0.5 and see if it helps the splodgy shadows without making the couch noticeably luminous. Increase or decrease Ambient Value as necessary.

If you deselect 'Use Irradiance Cache' it will get rid of the artefacts at the expense of a much longer render time.

I've converted all the car models I have to right-hand drive using Dimension3D's Content Mirror (I think it's available in the store here, if not Content Paradise). It is very quick and easy. Sometimes a bit of UV flipping is required for reg. plates and dashboard dials.
It works on buildings, clothes, props... just about anything.

I'm sure your friendly local data recovery specialist would be delighted to take your money off you, but the CPU getting fritzed doesn't mean the HD is kaput: get one of those gizmos suggested above for a few dollars and you'll probably be able to just copy your data straight off.

I'm pretty sure that neither D|S nor Carrara will do caustics, don't know about Vue.
But Reality 3 - available in the marketplace here and elsewhere - does a really nice job of caustics.

I had the same problem and it was speedily fixed, but it does make you wonder how it got past the two lots of quality control (the vendor's and Rendo's) that one assumes were in play.
