To further my point, here's another render of my V4WM.
Still waiting for the "fanboys" experts to present something similar, lest superiour...
This is as FireFly rendered it - I saved it as JPEG so anyone im doubt can use the software of his choice to verify that no postwork was done.

B.t.w., "Nudity Warning" didn't work, and I can't add it in an edit post too. You (Rendo) really need to work on the forum software... Sigh!
Thread: Why are you still using V4? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OHH, steady there, you will ruin the reputation I am trying to build as the gruff poser user.
Oh, you fail miserably at that! :D
As for me, and "pushed buttons":
If you look over my meager post history, you'll notice that I mostly tried to keep out of the bickering. It's just this time here where I went overboard and stated the obvious. Because no one else dares, but knows exactly which members are the problem, I decided to approach the members personally, by name. I might get banned for that but - phhtt - let it be. If the trolls get more protection than contributing members, so be it.
But I'm just so fed up with always the same gang having "carte blanche" here, ruining any thread they pick upon.
All I want is to come here, learn, get my questions answered, and if I can, share what I know.
What I don't want is some "Super Gurus" ruining threads with their constant same-same of how bad Poser is, how bad the work done by it's users is, and how soon Poser will die.
Thank you for reading my ramblings.
Cheer up!
Peter

@ hornet3d,
I've come to respect you as a real Gentleman by your posts, because you never go overboard, and keep it modest all the time. I'd like to thank you for that here.
You're absolutely right in most of what you wrote, except one point maybe:
Provided you have a figure that prohibits most of the errors usually made in posing it (by constraining the body parts' bend and twist limits to something more human-like), and adding a few other features, posing a figure like V4 can become a breeze.
My render above, from loading the figure, applying the mats, posing it, and rendering, was a matter of somewhat above an hour.
And "god forbid": I did have a lot of fun in doing it! :)
Thank you!
Peter
P.S.:
I don't consider my skill level as special - just a Poser user who's learned some things over the years. The open source format of Poser's files is what makes Poser special, and allows us all to tweak our work until we have what we want to achieve.
That's the main reason why I'll stick to Poser b.t.w.

Oh, and there's another thing why I still use V4, and will probably continue to do so for several years:
I know that mesh and it's cr2 in and out, so if I am after something special, I know quite well what do to, and how to achieve what I want.
I also know about the flaws of the mesh, so it's rather easy to figure out a workaround should there be problems. You know, it's like your old and worn out favourite jacket: you just feel comfortable, and it fits your needs.

I see none of the "special experts" came up with something of their own, except more text.
Just as I expected.
So here's my version of glitter's render.
It's my own version of V4, wight-mapped by myself, and rendered in PP2014.
Using SSS and IDL, just one infinite light and BB's environment sphere.
Please note that it's the same base mesh that glitterati used, just rigged and weight-mapped differently.
Which proves to (most) people that it's not a question of the newest and hottest mesh , but of what tech you use, and how well you use the software of your choice (as shvrdavid already showed absolutely brilliantly in his post above).
This, and considering the wealth of textures, poses and expressions available for V4;
THIS is the reason why I'm still using V4, and I don't think that it will change within this decade at least.
You know, numbers (of which meshes are made) don't have an expiry date, and they don't have "planned obsolescence" either.

Peter

@ Male:M3dia:
So you say it isnt. Because you say so.
So please show us what else it should look like, just to make your point!
Otherwise I'd be sorry to consider your post just more blabbing, by another known troll.
Kindest regards, and good luck with the posing

@ bhoins:
Instead of constantly bickering, why don't you show us a render of your oh so superiour "G" thing, in the exact same pose?
Maybe THAT could convince me, eventually.
Just unproven claims by a known troll doesn't. It's just blabbing.
Best regards

Thread: What Are You Currently Working On? Share It Here! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
So, is this going to become the next Poser Standard Male Figure? "TerribRex" XD
At least "it" has a potential to become a virtual "G" killer, by the book, in renders...
Though I'm still amazed when I see people (not just Teyon) whipping up weird creatures like this :D
B.t.w., don't forget to put your tongue in the cheek when reading this ;)
All in all, very good work!

EDIT:
That face, or the expression, looks somewhat familiar. An actor in a movie maybe? I don't know, but it does ring a bell...
Thread: No Material Room, I do not need to edit 4_InnerMouth | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
duanemoody
I think that's a good idea, though I'd rather prefer Poser "remembering last material for a figure".
Setting a "default" material zone would be just the same as what we have now (after all, "Inner Mouth" is a default zone, kind of...) - and I guarantee you that the next time you need to change a material zone, it will not be the zone which you set as default - Murphy's Law :D

EDIT:
Sorry Miss Nancy, crosspost...
Thread: No Material Room, I do not need to edit 4_InnerMouth | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
@ Cyberdream:
To be precise, it's the first material group declared in the .obj file, because that's what causes the somewhat illogical "sort order". So just changing the sort order in the .cr2 file file won't help, because Poser will ignore that and stick to the .obj file's sort order...

Thread: poser speed tweaks? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hello CC,
One of the best "speedup tricks" I've learned (in a thread I don't remember, in a forum I can't remember, sorry) is that you can load as many figures and props into a scene as your system RAM can handle.
At some point it will slow down your UI to almost unresponsive, making working with the scene impossible.
So the trick is to make everything invisible except the figures/props you need right now!
Then you can pose them as usual, with no big lagging.
Only when you think that everything is posed and textured OK, your camera and lights are positioned and set, only then turn everything else visible again, have a last look at the scene, save it, use the "Raytrace Preview" for a last check, and then render.
I've managed to cram twelve V4's (with clothing) and a rather complex "stage" prop into my 16 GB RAM (and it rendered OK, too). However, as soon as I made *everything" visible, I only could but kill Poser in the task manager because it sat dead in the water, overwhelmed by an amount of calculations that would make a CRAY billow smoke...)
Related, and concerning the Morph Brush:
When you work on high polycount models (like hair figures/props, or some clothing items), you may also notice that the morph brush becomes unresponsive to the point to "not responding" Windows message.
In this case, move the mouse well out of the preview window and have a cup of coffee ;)
After you've finished, take care *not" to move your mouse back into the preview window! Instead, untick "Display Brush" in the Morphing Tool widget!
Of course, from now on you'll have to make a good guess on which vertices will be affected because all you'll see is the standard mouse cursor - but you'll gain expierience over time, and you'll have a morph brush which works like a charm.
Just two things which came to my mind immediately.
HTH, and "Happy Posering"!

Thread: Office cubicle freebie | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'd also prefer the first option:
It makes the whole set a lot more versatile, i.e. users could remove prop parts from the cubicle and replace it with a door, or a window, or whatever else they fancy. Or they could combine two cubicles, etc.
Having separate props instead of a solid object also makes it more useful for people who are lost when it comes to using the material room, unless you include a ton of mat poses... *1)
You could use a "Grouping" for P10 (or a "null" prop for earlier versions) and smartparent all items to this base.
This should be loaded first. Then, make two options:
Make the props load separately, and automatically smartparenting to the base "on load".
However, instead of having to load each single prop from a separate library icon, I'd bundle them in logical groups, e.g. "floor & ceiling", "walls", "desks", "lockers", "chairs", "equipment", "plants", etc.
Like this it would be much easier to load what you want, and them delete from these fewer items what you don't, instead of having to wade through a list of hundreds of props loaded all in one go.
(But it'll require manually editing the .pp2 files, before distribution, in order to replace "parent ..." with "smartparent ...", which Poser doesn't when saving multiple props to the library).
For those who want it, include an "all in one go" option nonetheless - you could even provide this "extra" as a scene file, with some lights readily set up, etc.
I know this is going to be some extra work, but compared to the time you needed modeling it, it's zilch.
After all, you'ld want to make this item as versatile and user-friendly as possible.
Just my Tuppence...
-Peter-
Footnote *1) with a little "tongue-in-cheek": It would also spare me the effort of taking the "solid prop" apart again with the grouping editor's "spawn props" feature, for my own use ;)
Thread: How do you mirror a prop? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
While the OP's problem appears to be solved, I'd still like to continue the "mirror props within Poser" issue.
We have various, even contradictionary, reports on the "trick" of negative scaling: For some users it works, for others it doesn't, even if they have the same version of Poser.
This intrigues me.
I'd like to find out what causes this (maybe an issue of the respective SRs installed? I'm still on PP2014 10.03.26510)
However, I installed Poser 7 Pro today, and it doesn't work there either.
I mean, it could be a great feature: to be able to mirror a prop "on-the-fly" (without the need of exporting - then using another program - importing - finding out that the external program messed up something - redo the procedure, etc., ad nauseum).
So maybe we could find out what makes this "not" work, and how to fix it.
Anybody else interested?
Thank you.

Thread: topless under age alien? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Boni,
I'm not questioning the TOS, and I perfectly understand the reason for them, from a "professional" POV.
I also don't want to talk about "prudishness" of any persons or companies in particular.
I just wanted to make people think about the way our society, as a whole, is heading.
Every chain is cast with the first link, so they say.
And self-censoring is definitely a first link, because it starts in your head. And then goes forth, until you're a perfectly docile, controllable subject for whoever controls the prevalent "public opinion".
I agree this might be kind of OT here, but couldn't it be some food for thought too:
When is an alien considered "underage", and which anatomical features qualify him as an adult specimen?
Then, define "Alien". How old can aliens get, and when do they reach adulthood? What's their equivalent to homo sapiens's "Age Of Consent"?
Etc.
I especially stress this because in so many other aspects, I often heard the arguments "but this is all Fantasy" and "artistic license". Obviously, these are ignored as soon as it comes to "taboo" matters, like "underage".
Or nudity!
Would you tag a "nudity" flag to a render of a dog, or the afore-mentioned ape, to a render of any of these?
Why not?
They're mammals, they don't wear clothing, and their genitals are clearly visible!
Again, I'm not questioning the TOS, and I won't argue about either the TOS, or your opinion /decision. I accept it.
I just wanted to bring up some stuff to think about.
Regards,
Peter
EDIT: @ primorge, Boni: crosspost, sorry.
Thread: topless under age alien? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Venturing further into this, and in all seriousness:
Quote OP: "in it are three gigaliens one is a young female"
Quote TOS / Boni: "No images in which characters under the age of 18 give the appearance of having no clothes"
So a render of a naked, 12 year old ape (chimpanzee, gorilla, pavian, you name it), would also be considered illegal under these rules?
Is this still the real world - or have we already drifted into - The Twilight Zone??
