Thread: Resizing a image in photoshop | Forum: Photoshop
To get exact proportions stated, you would have to uncheck the Constrain Proportions. This should not be done on all types of images. You wouldn't want to do this on a photo of someone (unless you didn't like them). You can either change the width from 490w to 100w making the height 143h or change the height from 700h to 200h making the width 140w.
100w x 143h
or
140w x 200h
Thread: Action scripting ans short cut key aid svp | Forum: Photoshop
Oh me, oh my. I was using a shortcut for actions today in Image Ready and remembered the post about "any idea how I can configure a short cut key for the play button?". Select any action in the action palette, right click (or double click)and select Actions Options. You can set the F2-F12 with/without Shift and/or Control. This works in both Photoshop and Image Ready. I still prefer droplets.

You can do a free update of Version 6.0 to Version 6.0.1 at the Adobe site. It's a patch for a few problems 6.0 was having. This is for english version with windows.
If you have Mac or another language of Photoshop you can go to:

OUCH!!! 7 inch black and white? I hate when I go from my 19" on main system to my 15" monitor on backup system. I'm sure you will love Adobe Photoshop. Do you have version 6.01?

You could also create a droplet of your action. Save it to desktop. When you want to use action on one or more files in a folder, just drag and drop folder onto droplet application file and it will automatically open photoshop and batch process your files with the action. You can also do this with Image Ready. I use droplets daily to resize file dimensions and optimize the file size on hundreds of avatars used for a chat client.
Thread: how the hell do i get rid of this!!!!!PLEASE HELP!!!!! | Forum: Photoshop
Sorry, couldn't help the Hehehe. Been there, done that. I have so many graphics programs now that at times I can't remember the menus of each. At the beginning it all looked so foreign. Actually my fingers know more than I do. I can not think of the command but my fingers know where to find it.

Hehehe ... it does get confusing at times. I'm using version 6 and in that version you go to:
View - Show - Grid
check mark beside grid means it's on
clicking it again will take it off
I believe in 5.5 it's basically the same .. if not a check mark there is a hide grid and show grid in the View menu.

I like to use the Magnetic Lasso Tool. Great for complex edges. You have to tweak the width, edge contrast and frequency. After you make your selection, right click and do a Select Inverse and delete background or right click and do a Layer Via Copy. If you do the Layer Via Copy, you can lower the opacity of the original layer to see if you got everything you wanted. The Extract doesn't work very well. It does leave bits and pieces all over the place.

Thread: ABR Files vs. JBR files | Forum: Photoshop
.ABR are Adobe Photoshop Brushes
.JBR are Jasc Paintshop Pro Brushes
As for using one with the other? I have not tried. I'm assuming that they would not be found when you try to load new brushes of one program into another.
Thread: Compatibility problems using Photoshop 6.0 and Win 2000 | Forum: Photoshop
I found Win2K Pro the most stable so far. Those stories of XP not crashing? I've had XP for a few days and I would have to take my socks off to count the times it crashed on me so far. But I do agree, find an OS that works for you and your graphics and stick with it or if size of hard drive permits, install more than one OS on your hard drive. Dual or even Triple booting for all your needs.
Thread: Compatibility problems using Photoshop 6.0 and Win 2000 | Forum: Photoshop
I can't say i've had any compatiblity problems either. I've run Adobe Photoshop Version 5.0, 5.5, on Win98 and 6.0, 6.01 on Win98, WinME, Win2K Pro and currently on XP with no problems.
I have had the explorer.exe has caused an error and will be shut down. Everytime I tried to copy/paste, drag/drop any file on destop or between any folder, I would get that error when I was using Win98. I was dual booting with Win2k and never got the error on that. It drove me crazy. I tried everything. Even installing Win98 again. The only way I could copy/move a file was to zip it up and unzip it in new location or boot using Win2K Pro and copy/move my Win98 files that way. Finally I had to reformat and installed Win98 and Win2K again. The problem vanished.
Thread: Droplets | Forum: Photoshop
You can create a droplet of any set of actions. Saving the droplet to the desktop is a time saver if you plan to use those actions on many files in one folder or plan to use these same specs often. A droplet is a customized batch process application. Drag and drop file or folder of files on the droplet will open program and batch process the actions. In ImageReady you right click on the action in the actions palette and first select Batch Options to set where you want the resulting files to go then Create Droplet. In Photoshop click on action in actions palette then click on File - Automate - Create Droplet. It's great for repetitive work but can also be used on one image.
