Thread: RAW files and Bibble?? | Forum: Photography
humm...- seems to me that people are a bit confused about RAW formats. RAW format is not really a standard format. If you found some camera that claim to save "RAW format" than you are a lucky one, and maybe it' s a conversion of the raw data that came from the camera's CCD. Most digital cameras has a producer-specific raw file. So Nikon has a proprietary 12-bit file (called NEF), Canon has its one and so on. The only thing that Bibble do is converting images from some canon and Nikon cameras to known formats. It's useful if you are a Nikon user only beacause the Nikon View software (that does almost the same things) is a sh**ty software and does not worth the bit on which it is programmed into. Nikon Capture is a nice piece of software... not a well-programmed one IMHO but works (and it's REALLY costly). Conclusion: what Alpha says it's damn true. Anyway. Nikon do a plugin for photoshop and photoshop-compatible host programs that converts Nikon RAW files directly in photoshop. The plugin is a bit slow, but gives yolu the possibility of change the exposure of the pic and balance the lights using presets (like Thungsten lights, flash, etc) directly from the preview window. The Nikon RAW format (NEF - Nikon Electronic image Format) is a 12-bit file that contains exactly what the camera captures from the CCD, so no conversion take place. It' s a small file (7.6MB) compared to the 11,2 or 16,9 megs of the non-compessed TIFFs saved by the same camera. NEF files are (on the nikon D1X) 3008x1960px @ 300dpi and can be read using Bibble, Nikon Capture, Nikon View or Photoshop in 16-bit format using the proper plugin (given free with the camera).

second one.... i've the sensation that her feeble points are the hands. in this shot too i don't like the way sehe poses her hands. She has long hands, like the hands of a piano player. are an important part of her body. i've the sensation she doesn't realize how to pose 'em armonically.

humm... don't like this shot. as cat says the angle is perfect, but. there's everytime a BUT! =P ...hope you don't mind if i give some contructive critics, and anyway it's only my humble opinion. First, i don't like the expression, but this is a subjective reason... and maybe the crop is a bit too tight. the second reason is the hand. the hand is in an unfortunate position, she grab the chain too tight, seems unproportioned in contrast with the girl, and is parallel to the lens. i found that hand disturbing. the composition of the pic tends to go downside up, and so the hand should do.

yhummm... nice shot, rally. she's pretty. anyway... i've a thing to ask. you have cropped this image? the reason i'm asking this is that if you have cropped it, try to recrop the image centering the wodden-delimited space and not the girl. i guess how the result shoul look. you have captured two contrastant movements here, one regular/ripetitive (the wooden bars, the tires on the sand) and a chaotic one (the girl). maybe different crop could transform tha pic... just wondering... =)
Thread: Shooting with Medium format: first film color results | Forum: Photography
The camera is a Mamiya 645s with viewfinder (no pentaprism for now), so i'm forcd to carry my photo meter to take the light... not too bad since i've spent a lot of money on it and never used it too much. As the name of the model says she shots 6x4.5 negs. I've a 120 back and a polaroid one. these pics were taken using a 80mm f2.8 (the only optic i own for now). films: Fuji NPS 160Pro for color prints and Kodak TMax 100 for B/W. I've scanned the negs with a shitty Epson flatbed scanner. a bit of postwork in Photoshop.
