Looks like the footer has been fixed. It now appears only when scrolling down to the very bottom of the page. Much better! :)

Thread: Image Sizes in Gallery | Forum: Community Center
If I can't speak for the other vendors here, I'll at least speak for myself. We want customers, and we want happy customers. We want to be part of and contribute to a fantastic community. We want to see our products in renders. We also want to see renders and images that inspire us, regardless.
I don't believe the Gallery should be treated as a 'secondary' concern. It may very well be the heart of the site. We only sell products because people see a reason to use them, because they are tools for the customer to create something of their own. We are part of a process, not the end product in itself.
Make it a goal to create a gallery that is equal to or better than those of your competitors. Listen to the users and make the RO gallery the place to be. This will contribute to making RO the place to shop - and in the long run even the place to advertise. These things are very connected, and a long term view is required here. Content - and users - are king.
So for image size restrictions, what you can afford server space-wise is the real question here.
A file size restriction seems more reasonable than an image pixel size restriction. If you need to have that, I would say increase it or by the very least leave it at what existed before the site update. Psychologically speaking, people accept the status quo and are pleased by improvements. On the other hand, creating restrictions that were not there before when progress is expected tends to make people unhappy.

The white bar is context sensitive though. When going to other places than the forum, different information appears there. Like all the vendor tools, for instance. So it does have a purpose, it just needs to be collapsible. :)

George Carlin is awesome... my phone has all the 'stuff' but I wanted an unbreakable one so I chose a special model with a screen that is too small for the 'stuff'. :P
I don't use the 'stuff' on the phone because 99% of the time I at my laptop...

Hehe, 10-15 years ago, websites and image sizes were getting larger and the phones smaller. Now it seems to be the other way around... it seems like a step backwards sometimes!
Let's get back to tiny phones and fat computers. ;) At least fat 3D renders...

That doesn't make much sense though, since keeping users and customers here happy is the main source of income for Renderosity. Even external advertising revenues are affected by this, in the long run. Vendors have concerns too. So if it is really important, it must be fixed. Perhaps not as fast as people would like if workarounds or additional coding is required.
And this is where I have no idea... how much time/work would it take for instance to have the original gallery image size restrictions in place, but with code that downsizes images to smartphone size? Or even to have a smartphone only version of the site alongside the regular site?

It's funny, because I (amongst many other I am sure) use a widescreen 17" laptop.
So for the laptop, the smartphone optimized layout is more or less the opposite of what is needed. I'm thinking that most of the users and customers here are artists who would spend more time on a computer than on a phone. As far as social media integration, it is more important to be able to forward images to other social media sites that ARE smartphone optimized for good reasons, than having Renderosity itself being a smartphone site. Im also thinking people are more likely to be on their computer than on their phone when shopping from the marketplace. Of course neither Poser or DAZ Studio can be used on a smartphone, so someone who does not own a computer would not be using them or shopping in the marketplace.

Thinking I'm going to spend some time today throwing likes at stuff I really like... there is some wonderful stuff here after all. :)

Hey guys... I agree with you that there is a lot that needs to be fixed. There are some serious issues with the gallery.
It has been less than 24 hours though, a little soon to be leaving, don't you think? I am sure RO staff are working hard to fix things and that they are reading the forums. This was a big change and initial bugs are inevitable. Better to keep voicing concerns instead so they have a chance to get fixed.
Having said that... those initial recommendations seem a little strange indeed. Hope to see less photos and more high quality artistic renders in my recommendations. I would also recommend letting people upload images to whatever size they are used to from before, I can see how changes to that would seriously interrupt someones workflow. Happy users = happy customers! ;)

Collapsible would be awesome. :) Some of us need the functions in the top bars at least.
On a widescreen laptop it does feel a bit crowded! I would definitely prefer numbered pages on What's New/Hot etc, instead of the infinite scrolling which feels sort of slow and could be a problem for people with RAM memory restrictions. It would be shame to make everything except the first page stuff less accessible.
The product pages are definitely an improvement! Much better than before. :D

Testing... I am not sure I am able to read the whole thread, last post does not seem to be by the same person that the forum listings say it is.

Thread: Poser Forum on facebook … Competition! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This is really strange. I visit a thread about a competition on Facebook, and expect to be reading about precisely that.
I can understand concerns about social media integration and also concerns about Facebook policies. It is good to be aware.
But that is no excuse to be hijacking a post about an well-meaning initiative that is being made to promote artists and Renderosity. A lot of us actually want promotion. Today Facebook is there and is very active. Tomorrow it may be something else. What I do know is that it does us artists no good to hide in a basement just because the world isn't perfect.
Having said that, what is up with the account 'renderosity3d' on Tumblr? I just joined and followed it, assuming that it was an official blog of Renderosity. It blogs and links every new product that comes up in the RO marketplace. So far, so good! But with every blog post, there is a link on the right side panel leading to what seems to be some sort of 'warez' site called topgfx. It says 'download 3D models for free' which immediately made me suspicious, as it would make more sense for Renderosity to provide a link to the main Renderosity page, rather than the freestuff section.
If this is not an official Renderosity account, I would recommend for staff to contact Tumblr about it.
This is another reason why it might be good to have a presence on social media. An official presence. It claims the space that is rightfully yours and it lets you keep an eye on things. Hiding does not protect.
And sorry for sort of hijacking the thread again with the Tumblr thing, but since staff is already around, perhaps they will look into it.
Boni, I have visited and liked the facebook page. Thanks for the initiative!

Thread: Black "cracks" in dynamic cloth | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Oh I found another one!
If you have Wings3D, load your .obj file in and check if there are any hard edges. Set all the edges to soft. I recently used this method to fix cracks on a dynamic item I am working on. :)
