I bought Bryce. Bryce is hard to learn, renders ridiculously slow and produces strange flat looking landscapes and flat looking skies. Also very hard to import Poser into it. Was very disappointed about the tree lab too. Vue is doing most of its stuff volumetric avoiding flatness of sky and landscape. Just having a look at demonstrations of Vue proves that Vue does not have this drawbacks. Had the chance too witness it work, was very much impressed and now I am saving money to buy it. In short: choose vue ! (Vue sales people reading this, still need some bucks, please help a poor but sincere non-warez artist ...)

Thread: P4NW feet mapping | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Done that recently. Steps are: 1) Locate P4NudeWom.obj in the poser directory tree, copy this to a dir you create yourself (can also be created under Geometries dir). 2) In poser set up the P4 nude woman and save and quit poser. 3) edit the pz3 file with a text editor and replace the two references to the original P4NudeWom.obj to your copied obj 4) Remap the obj with UVMapper. Post linked above gives all doc you need. Specific UVMapper steps for remapping the feet: - select the feet - Edit -> new UVMap -> Planar (Y-axis, horizontal) should split upper and lower part - select lower part and invert horizontaly (Ctrl-x) (to prevent to paint on the top of the soles giving a mirror effect) Good Luck!

Thanks everybody, these results are very usefull. The single P4 is, as it looks now, faster but not very much faster than a 1G P3. The dual pentium4 again really flies. I will now be off the internet for a couple of days so I will not react to this thread. Please keep posting results!

Just redid the test on a portable P3-450Mhz with 128 Mb RAM running Windows XP professional. Result: 2 min 40 secs So I can confirm Win XP DOES make a difference. Guess I could get quite a lot of performance boost by installing XP and exchanging the 450 Mhz by a 1G P3.

I made a new rendering of the scene from another angle to make the box visible. Hope this helps to compose the scene.

Many thanks Cybermonk and dmtyler for the given results! dmtyler, are you rendering with anti-alias on? I think that your render going faster than a P4 1.7 Ghz is not as expected ;-) I would estimate that, since your processor is double the speed of mine, your result should be something like 1 min 40 sec (half the time I needed), about 25 sec longer rendering time than the P4 (which is not bad after all for the P3!). Maybe if more people entered this test so we get more results to work with ... Now I am really getting curious for the double processor configurations.

Thread: Things about Poser that make me go aaaarrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks, shadownet! I tried it out and it really works! Also I need to correct something. I used "camera focus" but what I meant was "focal length" which is expressed in mm and not in degrees. Anyway it did not stop you from giving me excellent advice. I will try to be more accurate in future.

Love poser too, but feelings mutual... - memory: yes that is familiar (I have 768 Mb) but that it gets eaten over time anyway. Trick is as in an adventure game: save often ! When problems occur (things slow down, strange colors, no reaction), reboot. - Select problem: I agree. Selection should follow conform hierarchy in the sensible way which is: if a selection applies to two objects X and Y and Y conforms to X than X should be the result of the selection (I think that is obvious but Poser does the opposite...) - Don't use the dials for precision work, type the value to avoid frustration... Want to add following: - rotation issue with props (already mentioned in this forum). Axis X and Z turn out the same when Y is rotated 90 degrees. Figures do not have this problem. Probably the skeleton system of poser is at the root of the problem. - Camera focus is at 25 degrees as a default. This gives too much distortion to my liking. I am more happy with 60 degrees. I want to be able to set this as a general default. - Poser renderer can not handle sharp corners (also mentioned as a thread here) - Knees and elbows get distorted far too quickly. But as stated, I love it ;-D

Thread: The "ART" question... and POSER 5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Van Gogh did not sell anything when he was alive. Cubism and impressionm were regarded as "bad" art by contemporary classic artist. Mozart died as a pauper. Hey, if that trend continues we are going to be famous after we die ;-D

After importing a prop, try to give it a figure parent (head, rHand ...) as soon as possible. Then pose the figure and the prop will follow. Example: If you first pose a figure into a shotgun-holding pose and then try to move/rotate an imported shotgun into its hands, you will probably run into this problem. Trick is to import the shotgun first and then to make the figure conveniantly touch the shotgun e.g. The hand "graps" the barrel. At this time parent the shotgun to the grabbing hand. The shotgun will now follow the movements of the hand and posing the prop will be a lot easier.
