If you want to advocate it, that's fine --I just don't share your assessment of what's going on, and my experience tells me that this is the jumping off point with DAZ studio. It won't be long before the only content allowed to be sold will be encrypted, and what then? At that point they've got you by the short hairs and they can do pretty much anything they want. Since the content's already encrypted, you're one "harmless" update away from being held hostage. Then if they decide to make you pay a subscription fee to export their content, or a per use export fee --what are you going to do then? Or if heaven forbid, DAZ was to go out of business a year or two down the road, what happened to all your content? We just had that happen at work where a vendor of a certain Safety program software shut off it's registration server so there was no way you could re-install the software. When we called them about this -we were encouraged to purchase their "new" software which was three times more expensive and did the exact same thing. When I heard that, we immediately told them that we would no longer be giving them our business and that was that. This is the same thing --you're set up so that you're dependent on DAZ3D and then --like every good pusher will tell you --you jack the price up. Sorry, but I'm not going to stick my head in that noose.
I agree with you. DazConnect is bad news all the way around.
I can't support the Daz Apologists on this one. Things are never going to be the same

Yo. Everybody has an opinion, including me, on the release schedule and handling of Carrara. But, this forum is really about helping each other work with the program - and it's a great program.
So, let's focus on the imagery, managing content, tips and tricks etc.
Don't make me stop this car!
Don't stop the car Mark.
Actually I started this thread so we would have a place to post information about what is going on with DazConnect in relation to Carrara.
The last thing I wanted is someone to "update" their software and have a catastrophe.
Thread: Carrara Sale! Today ONLY!!! | Forum: Carrara
Thanks for the warning Moonglow and for the clarification MDO.
We will have to keep an eye on that issue going forward.
P.S. The sale is extended through this weekend for PC Club members.

My understanding is that Renderosity's and Renderosity Vendor's cash cow of V4 was on the decline and there was nothing new coming out of Smith Micro and Poser that was creating the major crossover that V4 had. Deep sales on V4 were great for customers, and 3.50 Prime was good for customers and vendors but was bringing in no revenue for Rendo for all its management overhead. By going to V6 and Gn characters they would not interest a Poser based clientele.
So they had to try something.
I like Hornet's summary. But where do things need to go from here? Does anybody out there have any thoughts?
Well, one suggestion would be to try to get vendors to focus on buildings and vehicles and props in the OBJ format. These play nicely (often) in a multitude of software (Daz, Poser, Carrara, etc) and better models have a VERY long shelf life.
As far as sales being good for customers and vendors, but not for Rendo is not accurate. Rendo might not have been making as much as they wanted, but they DO get a piece of most of the money coming in. They didn't get much off of Prime products themselves, BUT the monthly coupon was never good for Prime items and members most certainly used that coupon and some of that went into Rendo's pocket.
Thread: What Happened to our regular Black Friday Sale? | Forum: Community Center
I was able to use the coupon a few items that NEVER go on sale, so it was a tiny bit helpful, but other items I tried to buy didn't work with the coupon because they were on sale for 10-20% off.
Last year, the whole store went on sale and I went on a bleeding rampage. This year, I took my rampage elsewhere (and saved even more money)
Thread: Enough with the Prime | Forum: Community Center
Hornet did a very good summary.
Things aren't as rosy for Prime members as they might seem to non-members. We lost our guaranteed $3.50 pricing and back catalogue. Had Rendo kept the back catalogue pricing intact, I believe the anger would have been substantially less. Some vendors reverted SOME of their prices (which we are grateful), but not all of their prices.
For awhile, some sale prices were lower than Prime prices.
Now we have quite a few sales at 50% off, but when you consider that we used to get an influx of Prime Classics for $3.50 that would run for a full month (rather than just a day or 2) even that doesn't seem like much of a bargain.
I went to the "Other Guys" and yesterday they had EVERYTHINg going for at LEAST 50% off, some stuff was deeper discounted. Here at Rendo, some of the stuff I wanted was on sale (10-20%) so the coupon was no good.
Prime is not the value it once was.
PS I got hurt in the site hack too! My account got cleaned out!

Thread: Poser Dynamic Clothing In Carrara? | Forum: Carrara
Steve
If you have Poser, then that product, http://www.daz3d.com/milady-fashion ,it should animate and work fine in Poser.
Daz's Dynamic Cloth (Optitex) seems to work in Carrara and ManleyStan is the expert with that and that is the only Dynamic Cloth I have heard that works with Carrara.

yes my post about the posts being 1984'd on Daz just got 1984'd. Their Choice .
Yeah, Daz does tend to take a strong dislike to people telling the truth. Kinda makes you feel like Emmanuel Goldstein
Thread: Animation Frame Size? | Forum: Carrara
It depends on what I'm doing.
If I plan on this thing being seen on larger screens, I usually do 1920x1080.
I don't know what kind of video you're doing (lighting etc), but if I were under your time constraint, I would probably 720x480 or 1280x720.
Depending on what kind of materials, lights are in the seen, you could have decent render times
Best of luck!

Thread: Lo Res (Lo Poly) Characters in Poser | Forum: Community Center
Yes, go ahead and get these characters from EPICI, because I had been trying to get them for a LONG time, but they were unavailable.
You can't beat the price and you can fill the creen with the Lores figures.
Predatron, over at Daz has plenty of Lorez figures to help bring your scenes to life...

This vendor has a few sets that have great Lores figures...

HOW TO USE RESIDENTIAL WITH VEGETATION (Painful method)
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/residential/102579/
Okay, you're still reading, so I guess you need the FULL version for an animation or something.
Remember
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU LOAD THE FULL SET WITH VEGETATION!!!
It will crash your system!!!
When you want to use Residential,
1.load the full scene with NO vegetation
2.Imoprt the saved Carrara file vegetation block you want to use
Delete any duplicate items from the scene.
Import the next block
Repeat step Three
Import blocks 1, 4,5,6,7,8,9 following the above method,
then SAVE as a DIFFERENT file (trust me on this)
Then import the other blocks
then SAVE as a DIFFERENT file again.
If all went well, you should have the entire (almost) Residential area ready to rock n roll.
Hopefully, this will help you get the most out of this large set.
Let me know if these instructions aren't clear.

HOW TO USE RESIDENTIAL WITH VEGETATION (Easy method)
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/residential/102579/
Remember
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU LOAD THE FULL SET WITH VEGETATION!!!
It will crash your system!!!
Okay, you can safely load some of the individual blocks with vegetation,
EXCEPT
2 ABSOLUTELY
and
3 sometimes
I NEVER got block 2 with vegetation to load without crashing my system.
but
Block 3 with vegetation crashed my system once, then loaded the second try.
So try Block 3 with Veg ONLY if you're brave.
Anyway, load each block in by itself, then tweak the shaders (or add Carrara shaders as
you see fit) Then SAVE the block as a Carrara file.
When you want to use Residential,
1.load the full scene with NO vegetation
2.Imoprt the saved Carrara file vegetation block you want to use
Enjoy

READ THIS ENTIRE SET OF POSTS!
Residential from Powerage does NOT work in Carrara without cation and a fair amount of work.

It crashed me, then reset Carrara to default settings.
Not good.
Okay, first the good news.
You CAN safely load the full set WITHOUT vegetation.
Do this and save as a Carrara file and open the file when you want to use Residential.
The you can add vegetation piece by piece if you desire.
