Dark room is one of the most funny things in my youth ... still remember the nights with my father and my uncle to develop B/W films. I was 7. I really miss these times... AZY: nice shot... ...could you ask your sister if she can give me a date? =P

Randy: humm... i think all depends on the camera you have. if your camera shots pics about 3 Megs in size 256 megs are enough anyway... (so 128... ). But if you r camera shots are LARGE or even HUGE you can't keep exchange cards all the time. regarding SM durability. as all things they are durable if you keep a special attention on 'em. I'm only saying that there are solutions that are sturdier than Smart Media ones. only saying that i've seen a lot of Smart Media broken (almost for non careful usage) but no Compact Flashes. Anyway, if you don't mind that your support is 1mm large and you plan to be always really carful with your support , then i guess there's not a Smart Media support problem at all... Anyway i own several cards, from Compact flash to smart media and IBM microdrives for different use.

...a little little little advice. a brand one... Canon is doing wonderful things atm (look for the Powershot s40), Nikon is out with the Coolpix 5700 that is a really nice camera with outstanding results. Don't even look for an Olympus. Has wonderful lenses but the Smart Media Support is out of time and really fragile. (and is limited to 256MB anyway...) For the supports... prefer compact flash (CF) equipped camera, if you can, and a cheap buy could be a IBM microdrive (a little HD that is CF compatible) if the camera you choose supports it. the 1GB one is costly and fragile, but the 320MB and the 512MB ones are excellent.

Agree with Alpha on Partitioning Big HD under Windows but... ...Macintosh users around: don't follow Alpha's tip if ya have a Mac. even if ya have a really BIG hd. The Mac FS is happier to work with many HDs and only 1 partition per HD. It work faster and is more reliable. =)

dunno... i read this post too late to partecipate actively... anyway... my really little opinion. first, some unuseful definitions. (from the Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, c.a. 1913) Photography Photog"raphy, n. [Photo- + -graphy: cf. F. photographie.] 1. The science which relates to the action of light on sensitive bodies in the production of pictures (and From WorldNet (r) 1.7) n 1: the act of taking and printing photographs [syn: picture taking] n 2: the process of producing images of objects on photosensitive surfaces ...apparently no one says PHOTOGRAPHY itself imply that the "sensitive bodies" has to be composed by iodides of silver. It appears to me a bottomless pit for garbage. Same for the post-processing. so... why photographers has developed tons of dark room techniqes and printing techniques to enhance, correct or simply add character to their work? This is not a photographer who correct its work in post-processing? so... i'm not a photographer nor an artist. maybe... but surely i'm a sperimental guy... Maybe these guys don't even know how to turn a monitor on... for some people evolving it's simply too hard. We have, today, other tools. Different tools. it's nonsense... or maybe it's only me...
