@Laurie - I'm in full agreement about the quality of the clothing you call "slutwear" that comes our way. (I've always called it whorewear!) One of the things that bug me is the fact that the outfits offered today are entirely unrelaistic, and I am too damn old to live in a fantasy world. I'd like to see more realistic clothing and accessories that are more in tune with the regular world, not some pedophile's fantasies. I've spent the last year learnng how to model clothing in Blender, and although I have made good progress, I have a long way to go. I'm not so concerned about what will sell as I am concerned about availability. I've heard a lot of complaints about the stuff offered today. I have to think that this clothing, so revealing and brief, is much easier to model that something that is more realistic. Or am I just cynical? The forum here has been very helpful to me in learning Poser and the processes, but the learning curve is steep for a burnt out old man like me.
I think the Poser community has too long depended on Daz to give them the fgures they need. I have nothing against Daz - I have Studio 4 but I just can't get the hang of the interface, so I don't spend much time n it. I've seen Antonia come along and now we have Anastasia. Good starts, although I am not fond of Antonia, because her eyes bug me - she always looks half asleep! But it's a start, and I think that the Poser community needs to become more self-reliant and not depend on others to produce what is needed. It is an interesting process, and the results amaze me...

I have also tried both OpenGL and Screed, with the same results. My vidcard is a NVIDIA GEForce 8600 GT.

I'm interested in IBL because I am trying to learn as much as I can about light. I understand and visualize light in the real world, but suck at it in the Poser envoronment. Because you are the alleged Light King here, I try to learn as much as I can from you. It is testimony to my ignorance about Poser lighting that I would be uninformed about the use of IDL and your environment sphere in PP 2010. I have the sphere and have been experimenting with that, also. And I still haven't a clue as to what is going on with my cameras...

Many thanks for the advice to both of you. It appears I will need to take the next step in this process. I did as BB said to do and changed hither to "0" to get rid of the zombies, but this did not fix my issue. I also reset the app to factory defaults in general preferences. I noted that the setting for hither at factory settings is 0.413. I don't know if this is the normal setting or not. Changing it back to zero doesn't get rid of the problem.
I have been working the past couple of days on BB's IBL generator, carefully following instructions ans ensuring I have settings cortrect. When I load the prop, it seems to come in okay, but when I set the render dimensions to 400 X 400 and attempt to render, I get nothing but a brown square. I set it up again and then switched to wireframe mode to see if I could get a glimpse of what was going on. I found that the camera is right on top of the character, and not framed in the viewport. According to the instructions, the image should be 42 inches from the center of the universe and 60 inches off the ground. By backing way out, I can frame the image somewhat, but I am sure it is not correct. Rendering the image gives me a funky image that looks nowhere near like the images on his page. I'll post a screen capture of it a bit later if you tell me what you need to see. I do export the image and then load it into the IBL per page instructions. Trouble is, I am not sure if this is working correctly or not. The images are not anywhere near to my satisfaction. Tweaking light intensity seems to help. Should I redo the .ini file?
TIA

BTW, Dark Edge Design has a tut on their website that helps you to ensure work flow, and it specifically addresses vertice count. Don't have the url but will try to find it.

Think I would prefer to use Blender. I like Hex, but it never works properly on my machne, hanging up or not performing tasks as it is supposed to do. No wonder it is free! :D

Thread: OT or not? No postwork gallery section | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My objective has always been to produce the best possible image, regardless of what work flow I have to follow. I've been using Poser for about 5 years now off and on, and although I feel I am at least competent with it, I am nowhere near the point where I feel I am any kind of expert like others here. I can make up for some of these shortcomings through postwork. It is the end results I seek, not the idea that I can do everything within one app.The forum helps me a lot. There are some real whizzes here. People are overall friendly and willing to help an idiot like me, and that makes me feel good about beng a member. I am saving out a lot of the information, and I am going to put together a book filled with hints and tips that I am sure can't be found anywhere else.

Thread: Creating a new dynamic dress WITHOUT leaving Poser :-) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, I'tt take full responsibility for my stupidity. I love your method of making a dress in this manner. It's similar to a method I use in Blender, using stacks of cubes to define the dress, subdividing them and brining into the cloth room to run the sim. This looks even easier to me. Here's my problem - I can't figure out how to cut the polys out to make armholes, neckhole, hem of dress. Followed your instructions but when I get to this part, i am stumped. I am sure it is an easy solution, but I've just spent the last hour pulling out what little hair I have left trying to make these adjustments. Can you enlighten a tired old man? I am running PP2010 on a Win XP 32 bit box.
Peace,
Charlie~
P.S. Thanks for an excellent tut!
