I don't think you can do it. One of the things Bryce does is actually do the boolean operation(s) upon rendering. So you're seeing what's going to be rendered. Most other modeling programs do the boolean operation when you do the "grouping."

Well, its a good idea to back your content up anyway, but I don't believe the uninstall of older versions of D/S will delete your content. The new install will ask if you want to use the content from your previous version.
Thread: What size do you start YOUR projects? | Forum: Bryce
I start at my working resolution of 1600x1200 on my desktop and 1400x1050 on my notebook. Then I adjust the render from default to premium (or use the spot render) depending on the complexity of the scene.

You might want to try this free program called "Starter" at http://codestuff.cjb.net/
It lets you select the processes you don't want to run a boot time. I have had good luck with it on my desktop with winXP. You might want to hold off on this. I went to the Codestuff site to download the latest version of "starter" ant it won't unzip unless I use "ExplorerPlus", which is not free.

Thread: Microsoft office XP has hijacked bryce .mat files | Forum: Bryce
If in windows explorer, you right click on a .mat file and then click on "properies", does the "opens with" line show "Microsoft Access"? If it does, I can see Access interfering if you try to open the file by double clicking it. Also, as mentioned in a post above, you should save the file (.mat or .zip) to disk, not use the "open with". Another thing you might check, using the Task Manager, see if there are any MS Office processes running. I don't remember the name, but I do remember using the program Starter by Codestuff's to disable several programs, and one had references to OfficeXP.

I have winXP and Office XP with Access and haven't run into that problem. Maybe after you download the .mat file, go to explorer and find a .mat file, right click it, and choose "open with". Choose Bryce, if it's on the menu, or custom to choose Bryce. This may not work because I have Powerdesk Pro and it modifies some of the explorer menus. Good luck.

Looks really good. I would add something (a rock) in the nearest pool to the right side, to interrupt the rather straight edge (of the pool shore) there.

There was a version of DAZ Studio that caused that prolem. Download the lateset version (9.28.4) and it should fix your problem.

Thanks Jay. I suspected my lack of knowledge of Bryce was the real problem. And I even have Susan K's Bryce 4 book.
Thread: Funny how normal things give you ideas | Forum: Bryce
I find while working on a project for a while, that I start focusing on real world images that relate to the (project) subject. For example, when I was working on an oil field scene (oil wells pipes, and valves) when I would be out shopping, every time I saw pipes and valves outside a building, I would start thinking of how that would look (and how I would model them)in my scene. I guess the real artists can transfer their "visions" to "paper or screen". Wish I could do that, because that "real world visualization" is what (I feel) really separates the true artists from the rest.
Thread: "Open Image" Help | Forum: Bryce
Yes, thanks for the inputs. I was going to reply to this thread last night that it (open image) doesn't have much use, but now I've learned that it does! Seems with Bryce, there's always something to learn.
Thread: show off your skills | Forum: 3D Modeling
Why not submit a photo -- two or three views of something to model, so everyone is trying their best to make their model look as close to the photo as they can?
