just some tips for 'better looking' smiles...

1. memorize your camera setting and save your lights so you won't need to tweak with em after doing the following:
2. switch to a face cam and set the light to a neutral level, pan the cam to obtain a 3/4 frontal view, maybe with a slight negative pitch (looking from up to down)
3. now find the dials to 'open mouth' or 'part lips': infact, before working on the smile, it's better to adjust the teeth! Play with those dials until you can see the teeth clearly enough (possibly maintaining the mouth within human limits...). If needed, pan the camera to try various pov.
4. Find the teeth dials, play with them, try to move those teeth up, down, inside and out to achieve a more 'human' and pleasing look. If there are no dials you'll have to use magnets...
5. When satisfied turn back the lips dials (open and part/disclose) and start to play with the smile.
6. IMPORTANT! remember that for a smile a lot of facial muscles are involved (can't remember how many but quite a lot!) - so after the lips, you'll have to tweak the cheeks, the nose (this in minor ways) and the eyes (unless you want to obtain a 'lunatic' type of grin).
7. Finally, try to get all out of the straight geometric pattern. Tilt, bend and rotate the head 1 or 2 degrees. Pose the eyeballs to compensate and look at the camera or at the wanted subject). You will notice how more natural an off-straight look is, compared to the 'square' starting position.
8. even a minor detail, like a bended finger, can change greatly the realism of a pose... so try all, and be careful to not overdo!

Sorry for the rush, i was so happy it worked that i wanted to post my result right away... I'll explain my note on the navigation side (even if i saw it was already mentioned as camera handling)... To be able to match the camera POV and FOV with those of a rendered scene (be it in poser or 3d max or other renderers) would be great... i just can't think of how many kinds of cool effects you can achieve with a 2d layered image sw playing with the rendered pic and the b/w ink layer output from ink'r!

It definitely works in w98... here's a first test result with The Freak (hi poly model) I have an Intel p4 2.4Ghz with 512Mb Ram, Sapphire video card (ati radeon 9x00 chipset) and (maybe here's the trick) the latest (or so) C++ dll mvsrc i don't remember how's that called. Anyway, if i tried to open the original geometry obj file from the runtime/geometry dir, i got an error, so i tried opening the figure in poser, exporting it as obj with the weld poly option checked and here we go! Note to dhenton1000: this is a great tool! But you should work a bit on the navigation side! Other than that I see no major issues (well maybe that of being independent on the drive on which the sw is installed) *high5*

Hey! That looks a great tool... I spent several nights some time ago tweaking the material settings in 3d max 2 for achieving a toonish/inked figure result... exactly like this seems to do! I'll give it a try soon and will let you know my results (in a W98 environment, if i can, -note for Redhawk- ). Just a side note from Italy (snickering a lot... btw i first thought it was a joke when i first saw it...) you might consider to rename it... since in italian that name traduces literally (changing the k for a c) to 'ass-f...er' and... hehe... well i don't think i need to add more! ;)

Well, since you mentioned that thread of mine... I'm here ;) I won't spend any word abot that Fox pal, but about your figure, maybe you just overdid a bit with the face morph dials. For the rest, the portrait itself, the light and the background are nice, the hair is quite good to my eyes. If you like postworking, -the frame is a good hint ;)- maybe try to copy the pic layer over itself in multiply mode with an opacity setting of 30-50%, blurring it a bit, to give depth to the light/shadow contrast... (just an idea). Happy troll-hunting ;) - err... happy rendering!

I am quite amazed by the high number of replies this thread has got so far. And I am at the same time quite happy to see there are only kind, sensate and good replies! Not even one single flame! (hehe no, i'm not masochist and i was not looking for real flames).

Actually there is so much good sense in all these replies that I am truly glad to be part of this community. I have been a bit harsh maybe in my first statements (but I still believe that to have a reaction, some 'action' is needed).

I will go on posting here in the forum when I believe I have something to add to the community, and I will post into the galleries when I make some image I like or I'd like to receive comments about.

For those who took this post of mine as a criticism against nudity, that was not my intention. I like nudity... but I prefer when it's well presented. Besides, a sensual image could easily be one of a full clothed subject whose hands, look or attitude are expressing sensuality. I was far from talking about porn... for that there are so many websites around that I don't think some of cg-porn are really needed... but that again could be interesting - maybe. Think to H.R. Giger... his 'art' is disturbing, yet original and so well done that is considered a -possibly minor- form of art...
