Sorry Guitta - I somehow managed to completely miss the last two short posts on this thread before replying! And I agree - the TE is indeed feature-rich and can be used very successfully for all those things and more, it just isn't the last word in precision if you want to model a natural terrain to an exact specification.

Whilst accepting Gebe's remarks about the range of tools available in the terrain editor, I have to agree with ShadowWind that it can be a rather blunt instrument, particularly if you are trying to recreate an actual real-world terrain. I know Mikeangelo also had to work very hard at this in his images of real scenes. If I were to tackle this sort of project, I would be inclined to pursue the external modeller route. Some of my own terrains have been created with nothing more complex than painting the grayscale heightfield map using PSP7.
Thread: How to CreateJust a Plain Background | Forum: Vue
Easy. After opening a new file, go to the Others folder in the Atmosphere dialogue and choose either White Back or Black Back. This will give you either a totally white or black sky. If you want some other colour, open the Atmosphere Editor, go to the Sky tab and double-click on the Sky Colour Map box. In the browser, choose the colour you would like (either plain or a colour gradient if preferred). OK everything then select Ground in the object hierarchy tree and press delete. You now have a plain (or graduated) background in the colour of your choosing.

Thanks for the link, Smalltalk. I had a quick look and was amused by one odd feature of the price list. After being queried for my country of origin and replying UK, I was presented with a price list marked up in US dollars and Euros (treated as numerically equivalent). This is very worrying - does it signify that Tony Blair has already done surreptitious deals with America and/or Europe to change our currency to one or the other? ;)

Am I glad I read to the end of this thread! Thanks for the link, Agiel - I had no idea such an archive existed. Searching around for where the link from the main Forum was (in the FAQ section) has also turned up a couple of other things I'd missed previously.

What a clever idea - though I shudder to think how long it must have taken you to set all this up. Thanks for something refreshingly different.
