REALLY!  

3 attempts on the Poser8 Installer at roughly 2.5 hours each ALL FAILED to complete !

I can not imagine what the Content is going take.

I am on a T-1 Connect and have never run into this. I am guessing it is server demand on their end, or they have D/L rates dialed down for the initial wave of new purchases. 

I have tried via, Opera, Safari and IE all with the same result. :(

Oh, just like being at home on  Dial Up :-/

Your content should not be effected by permissions, but it will not hurt anything either way. :)

The biggest thing to get into the habit of doing with Poser, is to make sure you SAVE, SAVE, SAVE and Backup, Alot. If you run a Time Machine it is painless to backup.

I would try this, Restart your Mac, go into your Utilities Folder and find the Disk Utility program
Run the Repair Disk Permissions.

HD>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility

I have experienced strange things with NEW software loads, ever since I switched to to 10.5 and the periodic updates,  

Running a Repair Disk Permissions seem to remedy 99% of the issues.

 I'll throw .02 at this too...I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination but I have found that the
aforementioned, changing of camera angle is a great way to create depth...

Also, Consider adding Depth of Field, although it can be crippling to a lower end system, there is always the option of Postworking  "fake" DOF into your images.

Maybe have a "Design My Avatar" contest, I am sure you would get some very interesting entries.

 If I might interject here... The Bodice is Xenon, for sure. The boots are not.

The texture on the suit is not part of the AS package, it appears that it is a node shader, probably created by the author of the product.

 I have always been a fan of The Girl, although it seemed for a long time that the clothing line went to the fetish world....Nothing wrong with that just gets boring after awhile.

I find the the re-introduction of G4 a nice addition to the V4 arsenal of morphing tools. 

The V4 Morphs++ and Muscle Morphs really add a lot of flexibility to her look something that was lacking in the original. IMO Daz did a nice job making this V4 Morph conversion.

As for the niche corner, I would totally agree, She has her place but not she is not for everyone.
