go to Administrator Tools then Computer Management when that dialog window opens go to Disk Manangement [on left hand side of dialog window] and see if the drive is recognized before tearing it apart. When you click on disk management you should see all your disks/CDs and in lower secion will tell you internal name (ie: disk 0, disk 1, etc.). The above part of this window will tell you what your file system is... Is it FAT32 or NTFS? Is it healthy (maybe need to defrag desperately as files are corrupted whatever)? Have you just recently installed a Disk Manager like symantec suite? Did you change the format for the disk to NTFS from FAT32? So many things could be happening but answers to these questions could help work out problem.

Cool glad you are running! Have xpPro on 2 of my machines and have actually been up as long as 8 days without having to reboot and I do a lot of 3d. Just make sure you keep your disks clean and your drivers updated ;-) Good Luck and have fun!

Well, to get a really good idea (like a classroom) look for anything geep in this forum (Search hyperlink from here). Then if you check out the tutorials here at renderosity for poser - check what is available - if you do not find enough there to wet your whistle - there is a Links to tutorials there - Use it! The oldies sometimes are the best. But if you are just starting (I mean from zip) then you will want to look for newbie stuff and not the morphing, lighting, etc. quite yet. I personally like: http://www.fallencity.net/lore/index.php http://www.dacort.com/tutorials.php (helps to explain grouping) http://www.morphworld30.com/tutor.html (a little adv but not too bad and teaches how to add parts to characters) http://schlabber.org/html/tut00.htm (for that difficult job of posing) And, my there are so many folks out there helping newbies, intermediate and even advanced users - I am sure some more folks will offer you there favs - right quick ;-) Good luck and when you feel like the question you need to pose is dumb - DON'T - cuz this is a nice neighborhood who loves to help each other.
Thread: Render Problem | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you are using XP [pro is mine] then each drive can/default is allocating page memory. I liked it better with 98se as I had a [1] drive totally dedicated to page memory. however, it has been stated here that firefly loses mass memory during rendering (least think it was said in last few days). My largest render production was 895 frames animation (talking heads JUST LIKE TV [sorry news is on and trying to out talk it ;-D]) and on xppro with 512mem w/10g hd free; had to constantly (least 4 to 5 times) grab additional page mem whereas my 1gig mem xppro never gave error for same rendition on harddrive with 76g free. Go figure.... Each system can be so varied that it is frightening and difficult to pin down problems. Which is why my old machine is now my email, document, flash, presentation, etc. and my new machine only runs my 3d stuff.

hmm, looks like either mem or page mem is full. What is your OS, free harddrive and memory configuration? When was last time you defragged your virtual memory harddrive? When I am rendering - uses a big slice of harddrive for paging even though I have 128m video and 1g mem. Definitely recognize those squares though ;-)

nothing in poser4 is put into the registry - but to be sure - try Start - Control Panel - Add Remove Software/Programs. If you see poser4 there then click remove. If it is not there and I dont think it should be - simply open windows explorer - go to c: drive - go to poser4 directory (could be under metacreations under programs folder or curious labs under programs folder) and on left side of windows explorer right click on the metacreations or curiouslabs (whichever installation you have) while holding down the Shift Key and a second menu will come up - left click select delete while holding down Shift key and it will totally disappear. Holding down the shift key while doing this completely removes and does not put in recycle bin. If you have Norton controlling your recycle - I am not sure whether this works but you can always clean out Norton. BUT before you do that - start up your new installation and make sure all your characters/props/etc are there. Never hurts to be safe ;-) After you remove this big hunka stuff from your c: drive you really ought to run disk defragger. I didn't catch which OS you are using but on xp is under Administrative Tools - Computer Management. On 98x you probably have that little white window down by time for scheduled tasks and that should have disk defrag - if not the program is located in windows directory and called defrag.exe. Good luck!
