Weight mapping can be introduced into any figure within PP2014. You just need to WM paint the rough parts and double check the bending joints.
It can be even easier than that:
Click "merge Zones To Weight map" in the Joint Editor. It will create a weight map according to the sphere zone, and you can work from this instead of painting a weight map from scratch.
Now you can delete the Sphere Zone, or set the Weight map to "Replace" mode - don't use "Multiply" or "Add" because it'll give you funny results.

In reply to the original question:
"Do all new Poser figures HAVE to be weight mapped":
No they don't have to. Actually weight mapping every single joint (e.g. the fingers) would be kind of overkill.
The best solution i.m.o. would be to create "hybrid" figures, which use sphere zones where sufficient, and weight mapping where sphere zones don't give you satisfactory results.
Then (if necessary) create one or two JCM morphs for the details which you still can't achieve in either traditional rigging, or weight mapping, and you should get pretty good results.
One last thing(TM): ;D
When weight mapping, pay special attention to the BULGE maps; they can work real miracles if you get the grip on how they work!

I think, better is , if it is possible, to have both versions, because weight mapping don't work in daz studio.
Yes, but this is the Poser Forum, and we're talking about figures for Poser.
So what's your point?

I have a Python script which does just that - zeroing any and all rotations in any figure while leaving all other parameters alone. - - - You can even include or exclude specified rotations by editing the script. - - - However, I see no way to attach this script here, and posting it in plain text won't help either because this forum doesn't heed any formatting fron my side. - - - So IF you want to try this script, just yell and I'll upload it someplace and share the link. - - - pp

This will probably be my first and last participation in any threads like this - and I only do this tonight because I'm drunk enough :D - - - However, when waiting for a render to finish, reading threads like this is an entertaining pastime: Just to look at how people have a warped look at reality and defend that to the utter is absolutely hilarious. On the other hand, looking at how skilled certain posters are at interpreting the words of others to the opposite is "fascinating" (Copyright "Spock"). At least I know by now who's a respected poster, who's a dud, and who's a DAZ "submarine". So I know whom to take seriously. - - - But please, keep up your endless, futile fights, and continue to entertain me! A Kindergarden is a boring place to watch, compared to these threads :D - - - Carry on, carry on... - - - (and don't waste your time to male a reply to this statement, because I won't reply to them) - - - pp

Also make sure the figure you "memorized" is the same as the figure you apply the "restore" command to... otherwise it may produce some weird results trying to "restore" Poser's "Rex" to a memorized "V4", or the like...

Hello Teyon, --- Yes I know, and I actually do edit my weight maps in the Pose Room all the time, using the Joint Editor. --- The reason for my heads-up: --- What if you need to create an additional Helper Bone in your already mostly developed figure?--- Dang!--- I understand the reason for the warning message when entering the pose room, but as long as I do not touch the present grouping, everything will be fine (all morphs still working) after I leave the Setup Room. Less the nuissance that ALL hitherto "hidden" parameter dials are now visible. --- I don't think that this is necessary, and probably only requires a very small change in the code: >> Remove ALL occurrences of "hidden 0"<<, and just leave the parameter dials' "hidden/not hidden" status as it was before.--- Not too difficult, I suppose.--- Cheers

I've been visiting a lot of message boards and forums, starting somewhere around 1999... Yet, I haven't encountered any forum software yet that was so limited, buggy, and/or messed up like this one. --- --- Why not have a look at what other, professional, web sites use as their forum software, and then choose the one most successful? --- --- This current software is obviously utter crap, or utterly bad handled; I suppose the first. --- --- So instead of trudging along miserably, and alienating even more users, why not make a clean cut: dump the current software, and introduce something really useful, which will make the users happy again? --- --- I won't propagate any particular forum software here, because it could be mistaken as "advertising". But we all do know which forums are liked because of the software they use... Why trying to make a difference just because of a different appearance (a.k.a. "Corporate Identity" - even if this implies "'R'osity = Unuseable forum!") --- --- My voice (as a newb) surely doesn't play any role compared to the posts of BB, Snarly, etc. - but heck - if even THEY are frustrated, with all of their expierience, then I'd come to the conclusion that something is really really wrong here. ------ So, as a newb, I would consider to move on to a different forum. --- --- --- --- (Pardon the --- --- , but it's my only way left to structure my posts, since this forum won't accept neither paragraphs nor blank lines (FireFox on an XP64Pro machine)

Thread: I REALLY need to find out how to UN-PARENT a prop so I can fit it to a different | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
*** Would there be a way to edit the pp2 in word pad to remove the parenting? *** The failsafe way: Open the .pp2 file in wordpad, and find a line like this: parent (whatever) or smartparent (whatever) Replace this by: parent UNIVERSE (Case sensitive!) Resave the file under a different name (e.g. "Necklace Fabi nonParented.pp2") Now the prop will load in it's original zero pose, no matter what figure is loaded into the scene. Move the reloaded (just to be sure) prop to it's new position, then parent it to the respective body part of your figure (which should be the "chest" though it's a necklace; but you surely don't want the necklace to turn and bend with the neck, right?) Now resave the prop *again under a different name" if you want so, e.g. "Necklace Fabi for Dawn.pp2". You'll be prompted that this prop has a parent, and whether you want to save it as a "smart prop": Click "Yes"! Now you should be done. HTH

It happened again, but during a different operation: I was working on a hip morph for V4, while at the same time adjusting weight maps to make the morph work nicely with the weight maps. After some time I noticed that once again, every bloody parameter dial was turned visible - but this time, in the hip actor only. So something along the way must have triggered that: - created a temporary group in the hip, applied a magnet to it, spawned a morph target. - deleted the temporary group, then continued working on that morph with the morph brush. - edited the weight maps in both thighs (side-side movement) - switched to and fro between editing weight maps and the morph. - used the group editor a couple of times to flip the normals of the hip - used the "mirror morph" command frequently. At some time along all these operations, the hidden morph dials must have been set to "hidden 0" So I'd suggest that SM checks each occurrence of "hidden 0" in the code, and investigate. Since, to my knowledge, there is no way to set a dial visible/invisible from within the program at user level, any occurrence of "hidden 0" shouldn't be there except for newly spawned dials (and only for this dial). Cheers

Sigh! - - - Some basic structuring features, like for starting a new paragraph, and empty lines, would help much to improve readability of a longer post... :/

Here's a real PITA when using the SETUP ROOM: ============================================= Try it for yourself: Load a figure with morph channels. Some of them should be "hidden" or "EMPTY-". V4 with the Morphs++ pack would make a perrfect example, but it works with any other figure, no matter whether DAZ, Poser, or whatever flavour. -> Now take that figure into the Setup Room. You don't have to do anything there, so just return to the Pose Room. Look at your figure's parameter list now: Every single "Hidden" and "EMPTY" morph dial was turned visible (plus some randow other dials, like xOffset etc, or origins dials. In a figure with many morph channels (like a fully laden V4), this renders the figure unusable because from now on you must wade through an endless list of empty morphs to fing the one dial you need. My workaround is to save the f** up figure as temp, and then hack the changes done in the Setup Room nanualoly into an intact version of that figure. A fix is urgently requested! (P.S.: PP2014 on WinXP Pro 64-Bit, but I believe that the same problem already existed in PP2010)
