A trans(parency) map is just like a texture map
Note**
Where the transmap is BLACK, the object WILL NOT be visible.
Where the transmap is WHITE, the object WILL be visible.
Colors in a transmap (other than black and white) have no meaning. An exception to this is that varying shades of grey will give varying amounts of transparency.
Try this ... (using your favorite "paint" program)
Take a texmap for an object ...
Set "Highlight Size" to 0%
Set "Transparency Min" to 0%
Set "transparency Max" to 100%
Set "Transparency Falloff" to 0.0
... see what happens.
Also, you may have to convert the transmap image to a negative image to achieve the desired results. (See note** above)
Hint: make sure you set the "highlight" to BLACK (and zero) for the object using the transmap or the highlight will show up on transparent areas when you render.

(under the "Display" menu) make sure that "Bend Body Parts" is checked. (otherwise, you'll still get gaps when the joints are bent.) cheers, dr geep

Use the Hierarchy Editor to group them together ... Then "Create New Figure" (Hier. Ed.) Then delete the current objects from the studio. Then load the "new figure" from the figure library. Then use the "Joint Editor" to adjust all the joints. Then RESAVE your new figure to the library. Good luck and ... cheers, dr geep

Hadn't thought of that (Yarp's P3dO). Takes a few extra clicks but it works just fine. Appreciate the solution. Phil C's suggestion is a good one, also. Works real good for adjusting the pose without the need to render each time. Thank again to all. cheers, dr geep ;=]

... for me. I tried the "background" picture method and the thumbnail comes out real dark and no details visible. The RSR convertor blows up when I try to convert a file in either direction. Anything else I can try ............. Thnx for the suggestions anyhow. cheers, dr geep

In Poser ... Under "Animation" ---> "Make Movie" Under "Sequence Type" select "Image Files" Each frame will be stored as a separate pic. Now you can generate an animated "gif" from the "set" of pics generated by Poser. cheers, dr geep
