BB, you guys just amaze me. I'll be hanging on watching with bated breath.
Thanks so much for what you are doing.
Thread: Should poser be rebuilt from the ground up | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Right now, I'll just settle for 64-bit crunchiness throughout & a really good set of tutorials on the new features added to P8/PP2010.
Thread: How much faster does poser pro 2010 render over poser 8? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - OK , I hope to build a new animation set up based on Poser , what Mac computer would I purchase to run fast and smooth rendering.
How many bit / memory / any ideas.
I am using Poser 8 Poser2010.
Thanks Guys
A couple of things to rember. On the mac side of the house, only the renderer is 64-bit. This means that while building a scene, you will be limited to 2GB per process. Hopefully, the developers will get the code base moved to the 64-bit Cocoa libraries by the next iteration.
The renderer (FFRender) on the other hand seems to use as many cores and as much ram as you can throw at it.
The key is (as with all modern computing) Cores & Ram, Ram, and oh by the way, more Ram.
I will be replacing my 1st Gen Mac Pro with one of the new Mac Pros (12 core) for my birthday in Feb. That is out of most peoples price range however ($5K or there abouts) But 12 Cores (24 w/Hyperthreading), and up to 64GB of ram will future proof me. (I work off a 5 year cycle)
If you can't afford a Mac Pro, I'd recommend the large iMac. Just make sure you stuff as much ram in it as it will take. 1 caveat. Don't buy ram from Apple. Get a reputable dealier on line and pay half of what apple charges.

Right now the main thing I am looking for is 64-bit for more than the renderer. It irritates me to no end that I have 22 gigs of ram & Poser can only see 2gigs of it while I am setting up a scene.
Thread: OT: The Science of High Heel Shoes | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - High heels for men were very briefly popular in the 1970s.....
I would kill for those types of clothing for my poser figures!
No, I am not kidding, I have a story that I wrote that took place in the early '70s.
These would be perfect!

Hi!
I am ssgbryan & I am a lurker.
The reason I don't post to the galleries is 3 fold.
1. I am more interested in telling stories than making individual images. I have stories that go a couple hundred images. The are all works in progress however. Most of them the characters are half (or more) naked. Not because of the story, but because I haven't found the clothing or other prop that I am looking for am looking for. As a corallary, getting all of the characters, props, etc to the same level of quality has been a nightmare. The scene doesn't look right unless EVERYTHING in the scene is done to the same level. Did I mention that I need more realistic SF clothing (i.e. uniforms, not SF Fantasy) than I do lingerie?
2. Even though I have been playing with Poser since Ver. 5, there are many things I still don't know how to do yet. I have figured out the cloth room, made all kinds of conforming clothing dynamic & I have figured out how to make V4 clothing into clothing for all of my female characters. It has taken me nearly a year to get everything converted from V4 to G2F, Miki (both), V3, V2 etc (Yes, I use them all. V4 is too damned tall.) Did I mention a computer crash last year that I am still recovering from (6 months of conversions gone in an instant).
I have been following the P8 lighting threads & the TDMT threads very closely. I will understand how to use these advances eventually, but since I don't come from a photography background, I am having to start at the begining.
3. Because I can't find what I am looking for (outside of lingerie for V4), I am dipping my toe into texturing & modeling. Texturing seems to be pretty easy, modeling not so much.
Right now, not understanding how to do lighting properly is the biggest hold up. It isn't enough for me to know what lights to use, I want to understand WHY. That takes a little longer. Once I get my head wrapped around it, I might even strap on my courage & post an image to the gallery.

Check your settings for the renderer. From what I understand, it does a better job of thread utilization than P8.
Regretfully, SM hasn't gotten around to given the MAC version the 64-bit monty. I am hoping that one day, their developers will visit the Apple Developer website & get the (free) stuff they need to move to the Cocoa libraries.
Thread: Does 64bit render faster than 32bit? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
64 bit will not necessarily mean faster. What it means is that your scene can access more than 4gb of memory. I.e. you can have a much, much larger scene.
Thread: If Poser was true 64 bit... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Have you used Apple's scripts? They have a web page in the Developer Connection that is supposed to do a lot of the leg work for you (swapping out the Carbon to Cocoa libraries). I found it while looking for something completely different - which seems to be how the Apple search function works - I can never find what I am looking for.
As long as I can address more that 4GB of ram, I don't care if the GUI is 32 bit or not. I like the new look. It has taken a little getting used to, but I like the speed.

Quote - I need to clarify that the Mac will not get the 64-bit editor, only Windows gets the 64-bit editor. There are insurmountable difficulties with a 64-bit GUI on Mac. That's why Photoshop is still a 32-bit app on Mac.
Both will have a 64-bit renderer.
The reason Photoshop is still 32 bit is because it was written with the Carbon libraries.
Carbon was a temporary fix to bridge from OS9 to OSX. Apple has been telling developers for almost a decade now not to make long-term plans with anything that uses Carbon.
They would have to start using the Cocoa libraries.
If Adobe or anyone else needed any clue it should have been 2 years ago when Apple dropped development of the Carbon 64 libraries.
The "insurmountable" difficulties with a 64-bit GUI are the need to move from the Carbon libraries to the Cocoa libraries.

The slider is 6 pixels wide, I think. When SM asked me to make it like that, I was pretty concerned about how small it was.
I can change it easily, but they have "graphics" people who were not happy when the library had a wider scrollbar thumb than the rest of Poser. I'll bring it up with them.
Please do. Same issue when clicking on something, a lot of times I have to double-click twice to get something to activate.
Tell the "graphics" people I said "It isn't about you, you don't pay the bills. I do."
Oh, by the way, thanks for a great library.
