Well it seems that everytime that I come here I continue to read all this depressing news about Bryce. I myself still use Bryce and I still create models and terrains and textures that seem to work and look very good, well at least to me. Until I'm not able to use Bryce I will continue to use the program because of the ease of use. I use version 5.5 not 7.5 which is a train wreck in my opinion. In 7.5 you can hardly have a file greater than 450 megs before the system will freeze or lockup to the point that you have to shut down the program altogether. At least in Bryce 5.5 I can still have files over 1 Gig without crashing the program but even than you are limited to the amount of detail that you create for your models. Sometime I have to render different section separately then doing postwork you integrate all the elements using a program like PhotoShop. I will still continue to use Bryce until I actually take the time to learn another modeling program and I just don't know if I have the patience to learn something like Lightwave or 3D MAX.

David
Thread: Is Bryce dying? | Forum: Bryce
Bryce will remain in my tool kit as long as I'm doing spaceships and planet terrains. I think the program still does a remarkable job when it comes to space scenes and until I feel like learning another program or that I cannot create what I need for my work I will continue to use Bryce. As far as DAZ is concern I gave up of them quite a long time ago. They live, eat, and poop poser and all that goes with that program. I started to stop posting there at DAZ when they said that they would have galleries for just Bryce, yeah right. It was 20% Bryce and 80% Poser as that what they were posting on the so called Bryce Gallery. Why keep shoving Poser down out throats in every gallery especially when it was supposed to be a BRYCE gallery? I would like to see a real Bryce only gallery, that means that except for postwork everything created for the image is pure BRYCE! Now I would actually start posting to that gallery myself. But when my work is being regarded as not good enough for the Bryce gallery when my pictures is 95% BRYCE and the picture that beats me is 20% Bryce at most and 80% at least Poser then there is a problem with their standards!
Thread: I thought render to disk was supposed to be fast. | Forum: Bryce
I use to try and use the "Render to Disk" feature in Bryce but the render time rather then go down would actually go up 10 times what it would have taken to just render the image the normal way. The only advantage that I have ever seen for using that feature was the ability to set the DPI resolution so that if the nucklehead that does not know how to use a 40 meg file could print with a 300 DPI resolution. I have had quite a view of my pictures published and 99% of the images that I sent the client were 72 DPI just like yours. The file itself was over 30 megs and resolution was close to 4000x3000 and thats all that really counts. If the people that continue to demand 300 DPI resolution images (and they will) are still asking for that then honestly these people should find a new job. Just my 2 cents.
Good luck on your render using that feature but I think you should be able to get the disired effect by making the image itself larger then resizing the picture after you render it especially if you are going to publish that image.
Cheers,
David
PS: Very nice picture that you're trying to render, excellent composition and lighting!

If you are actually looking for a way to create people just using the booleans objects in Bryce then you may want to take a look at my Astronauts that I use in all my pictures. I created all of those guys just using the booleans objects that come with Bryce. The only cheat that I used was the faces that I found somewhere online over 10 years ago. I wish I could remember where I got those faces becasue they had all the gear that the Apollo astronauts had from the helmet mics to the cap headphones. That did save a lot of time but all the other equipment, helmets, life support backpacks etc where created using booleans objects in Bryce. The biggest headach you will have is articulating those little boolean people to give them a natural pose so they don't look so stiff (especially the hands and fingers). Depending on the scene and what those little guys are doing can take up a lot of time so be prepaired for a lot of test rendering to get these guys just right. PATIENTS is the KEY WORD here, good luck and I hope that what I have said helps. If you like, you can go to my website or just visit my gallery here to see the astronauts that I am refering to.
Good luck as I hope that what I said has helped.
Cheers,
David

Yea, Rochr is one of my all time favorite artist, the man is amazing and a good friend. He always has time to answer a question if you send him an e-mail and he is not one to blow smoke about someones talent. If he thinks your good he will say so! I like his honesty and his abilities in Bryce and the other CG programs he uses is nothing but amazing! On my website I have a list of my favorite artists that I admire and he is on that list with a very select group of artist that I have admire over the years and have the utmost respect for. The link that you give of his latest work is just another example of his talents!

Heres my 2 cents, why don't they fix what should have been their primary goal to begin with; the resource/stability issue. Forget everything else, without these basic issues being address it does not matter what else they add, it will still just end up crashing and we the customer just pulling our hair out becasue of all these memories leaks.
It would be wonderful to be able to loads older files from earlier versions of Bryce into Bryce 7 PRO without getting an out of memory error!

Hey guys don't feel bad, I have been a devoted Bryce user for over13 years and they still very rarely will use anything that I create. I also love the fact that when you go to their so called Bryce gallery about 80% is poser based. I also asked them if you have a Bryce Gallery should it not be dedicated to the creation of Bryce work using, (dare I say) Bryce only items. There is quite a bit you can do using the Boolean objects that comes with Bryce. I do not like the fact that they show images that are primarily Poser images with just maybe a Bryce sky or terrain but everything else Poser based, this kind of takes the idea of a Bryce Gallery and throws it right out the window. I would love to see a pure Bryce Gallery but you will never find that here or at DAZ or anywhere for that matter. I don't mind you doing post work in Photoshop or using a program like Universe or Flaming Pear to create some of the background because Bryce star-fields just plan suck but at least 90% of the image has to be Bryce only and I have yet to find a real Bryce gallery. I know that their are artist here like myself that take a lot of pride in creating Bryce images using primarily just what Bryce has or what you can find that is design to be used with Bryce. This in my opinion shows ingenuity and also shows how powerful Bryce is by itself. I would love to see a Bryce gallery dedicated to say just Space Exploration, or one for just Landscapes, seascapes, or what ever but at least 90% percent of the image has to be created using only what comes with Bryce or what you can find in the free section for Bryce or Bryce add ons and especially using models created by yourself and not just something you bought from DAZ or from here. All the kudos someone gets for just placing a model that you did not create is kind of sad. The more original and creative one becomes especially creating an images using just what comes with Bryce and creating the model yourself I believe would be a lot more satisfying and would set you apart from just the average person that uses someone else's model and show a level of creativity that I think is much lacking in a lot of the pictures I see here at Renderosity. I know not everyone has the patients or creative spark but it would be nice to see images that usually get 40 to 50 comments or more to actually deserve the kudos. There are a lot of people that bust their butts to be creative and create and design everything from scratch and they get at most on a good day maybe 20 comments for work that may of taken 2 to 3 week to 2 to 3 months to create. The disparity in the amount of time and effort and creativity over some one using just stock items and then those people getting 50 or more comments is frankly disheartening because this website is turning into more of a fan site for certain bloated egos. This is sad but true and if you don't believe me take a look around and you will see what I am talking about. There are quite a view exceptional artist that hardly get any encouragement except from others of the same mind and frankly this is unfair. This is just an observation on my part but I believe that there are artist that post here that feel that same as I do. It is a shame that this site like so many others is becoming more based on popularity than the merit of their work. Oh, yes, I do understand the concept of the word (Subjective) but it does not take a genius to see the difference in creativeness and just putting together a view brightly colored objects and calling that art.

Thread: FYI Brycers | Forum: Bryce
The most frustrating thing about Bryce 7 Pro is its inability to save large files over 500 Megs. I am just saving the model that I created and it crashes every time. It should not be so memory intensive as to require more then 3 Gigs of Ram to save a 482 Meg file should it? I am a die hard fan of Bryce but this is just unacceptable, any suggestions?
Thanking you in advance for any input...............
David a vey sad Bryce fan.............;-(
