Thread: Silo's soft selection on Poser figures | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Oh, and also if I use UVMapper to merge the groups, it won't do any good for Silo, because its soft selection will just stop at the polygon edges anyways.

Yes, you remove the grouping to work on the mesh, then replace it later, see attached link.
I just can't get this to work with 3DS Max 8. Did anyone do this method using 3DS Max?

Oh yes, I figured that out as soon as I made the first one, which made this method a very acceptable choice. Thanks for pointing it out though. I'm still disapointed that Silo can't extend its fallout to other groups.
Also, anyone knows if Silo has that "Smooth" feature that Poser has on its Morph window? That thing is amazing and its sad that 3D Studio doesn't have that. In fact, im kinda disapointed with 3D Studio's mesh modeling abilities when it comes to organic. It pretty much only have the Soft Selection feature to help on that (as far as I know?). Except for NURBS, but im talking more about making Poser morphs.

Quote - You need "shaper" its a free obj tool basicly it welds what ever body parts you need into one, you import this obj to your modeling program morph it to death, then shaper takes apart the parts back to the org. so you can bring it back into poser.
you need to e-mail the owner to get this special function to work, its great and its free

I did try this in the past. But I ran into some problems with it. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I just moved on to another method that I was confortable with.

What I do on 3DS Max is: (kinda messy, but works)
I import the figure's OBJ into 3DS. Then I select one body part, Edit Mesh it, press CONTROL+A to select all vertexes, and type the body part name on the top bar's "Saved Selections" box. Now I press "Attach" and attach another body part, press CONTROL+I to select its vertexes and type its name on the "Saved Selections" box. Again press CONTROL+A, attach another body part, press CONTROL+I to select its vertexes, and "Saved Selections" again, until I have all the body parts I want to morph there.
Now, the fallout will cross body parts, even though the vertexes on the seams are not attached. They're just on the exact same coordinates.
After done, I "Detach" each body part using the saved selections I've previously saved. It works great, except that it's a lot of work.
Yeah... I know... I'm a mess...

So there's no way to actually have Silo ignore the different body parts? I have kind of a way around it on 3DS Max, but I was hoping Silo would just have an option to ignore body parts seams.

I don't know what to say, besides that I finished my project by using my method and it worked like a charm. But I only did full body morphs. Haven't done individual body parts. And also remember that you have to export your figure as it is on your scene (with all rotations and translations, morph it like that, and export it back like that). If you morph one zeroed body part and try to apply to a non-zeroed figure (and vice-versa), I'd foresee that problem happening.
I'll check out this Silo software you mentioned. Despite my deepest love for 3D Studio, I don't think it's the best option for modeling.

By the way, what software you guys use to make morphs?
I'm using 3D Studio MAX, and I have to go thru an annoying exercise of merging body parts before I morph, and then un-merging them after I morph to export the new OBJ.

Actually, by just reading about how that program Baggins posted works, I found a very very simple way to do what that program does without spending one dime, and I want to share it:
1: On your Poser scene, pose your actor like you want to morph it. Once done, export it to OBJ without checking the "As morph target" box. Just export it.
2: Go on 3D Studio (or any other tool) and morph your exported OBJ. Once done, save it with a new name, leaving the original OBJ unchanged.
3: Back on Poser, get an empty frame on your timeline and zero your figure there. (Zero all morphs and all body transformations.) Keyframe it. Then load the first OBJ from step 1 above as a full body morph target, then load the second (morphed) OBJ from step 2 above also as a full body morph target. Now just go on the new dials and put the second morph as 1.000, and the first morph as -1.000. BAM! Export that as a new OBJ, control+Z those 2 imported full body morphs off your scene, and reimport the new OBJ as your morph.
Easy as 1,2,3...

By the way, what do you do to delete full body morphs? Imagine you smoothed a figure and created a morph, and now you want to delete it. Do you go thru all body parts and delete the morph 1 by 1?

Yeah... so thats what happened. The "Save a copy as" feature would be great if it worked, but as it doesn't, the file replace thing will do the job. The cross body part tool is really a great feature. Specially the Smooth tool. Not even 3D Studio Max has something like that. I sometimes export OBJs from Max to Poser just to smooth it and then export back to Max.

I'm trying the Spawn Morph Target, but when I set its dial to 1.000, the body parts is like, overmorphed or something. Its all distorced, even though I've cleared the custom morph already. Do I have to do this on a zeroed figure?
