Thank you for choosing my photo too. As the rest, I too am truly honoured.
Whoo hooo...!!!

Quote - Very cool. Did you rent that device or do you own it. It's a bit expensive to take the occasional huge photo.
Yes, it’s mine. Quite an investment for sure, but I hope to be able to do something with it that makes me some cash in the future.
Just need to work out how…he..he..

Thread: New Vue 8.4 Update | Forum: Vue
So far so good here.
For me this is shaping up to be one of the better updates in a while. Seems to have improved speed and reduced resources.
Time will tell, but so far I'm very happy with this update.

Must say that I'm delighted with my purchase. The quality is nothing shot of excellence. Hyper realistic results and so far I'm finding them easy to work with.
Thanks for a great product.

I'm not sure I understand the point of your tests at all. OpenGL will make no difference whatsoever to the time it takes to render an image.
Also by the look at your figures above something tells me that your scene was entirely empty of everything except for a sky. Is that correct ?
If so, that's not a real world test at all and you wouldn't have any clue of the true impact the OpenGL 2.1 places on your resources.

Quote - Chipp -
I was using the different OpenGL settings to test resource usage. I just didn't note it here. It is part of the table I am putting together.
Also, people were complaining about much longer render times in Vue as well as some had resource problems so I did a number of tests. I knew OpenGL wouldn't affect render times, but the settings can affect resources.
I have a ticked open with e-on on that.
The resources usage is 6 times higher with OpenGL2.1 turned and e-on are looking into this. From the reply I got so far it's clear to me that they don't see this as normal.

Hi Arraxxon.
Thanks a million for that.
The second free one is very like the Turbo Squid one I was after only far less detail. I think I'll use that to setup my scene and save my pennys to buy the third one. The price is in euro so it's actually 72 USD. Way more than I ever wanted to spend, but if I can create a really good scene with the free model, I'll buy the other one for the actual final render.
Thanks

Quote - I think that Rutra has made a clever suggestion by saying that it should be Vue7-compatible, with some additional files included for Vue 8
My 2 cents......
Personally I think that's not such a good idea. I'd rather see two separate products if your going to support Vue 7.
I would much prefer that when I load your material up into Vue 8, everything I see is the best the program and you have to offer. I don't really like the idea of having backwards compatible material in there just to keep Vue 7 users happy under the same product.
To do that are your basically just coming to a compromise rather than offering the best you can for Vue 8 users.Â
I'll buy it either way, but I felt I just had to let my opinion on this known.

Thread: Vue 8 System resources usage are unacceptable | Forum: Vue
It's a G Force 9600m GT Cuda with 512MB dedicated video memory
I've spent the entire day working away with OpenGL 2.1 turned off and the experience has been very good. I've loaded up some of my very complex scenes and the systems resources usage is been really good. Almost identical to Vue 7 usage.
The second I turn OpenGL 2.1 back on, the resources usage goes through straight the roof. Everything seems roughly 6 or 7 times larger when OpenGL 2.1 is switched on in Vue 8.
With nothing loaded at all it even uses an additional 10% of my resources.

Damn copy and paste... my post is wrong again.
Never mind.... IÂ know the problem is the OpenGL 2.1 anyway and I have a ticket open with e-on

Sorry I can't edit my post and that should say that if I turn OpenGL 2.1 off, same scene will use up 70% of my resources.

Hi Guys.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean about displacement in this situation.
If I turn off OpenGL 2.1 in Vue 8, my scene will only use 10% of my resources. If I turn it back on the same scene will use up 70% of my resources and give me warnings about my memory being at a critical level.
So same scene, same program, only difference is OpenGL 2.1 turned on vs off.
Kind Regards
James

Thanks guys.
I've opened that ticked with e-on and when they get back to me I'll let you know what they say.
I can't see it being right that OpenGL 2.1 would cause scenes to use 6 times more memory.
