yeah, I've tried everything I could in Photoshop. (Try saving a sketch in .PNG file and opening it in PS. whoa), but it doesn't come out quite right. I'll post a method if I get it to work. Thanks ernyoka!

Thank you for the reply, but I'm pretty sure that poser would "sketch-ify" the background image (in this case an image of a solid color). I'll test my theory when I get home. =)

If you are still trying to run it with Win98 Compatibility mode, turn it off after updating to 1.1.
Thread: What screen resolution do you work with ? | Forum: Carrara
You should alter that image to say that you work with Carrara, not MAX. :) 1024x768 on a 15". I'm not proud, but it's not too bad, either.
Thread: Carrara vs 3dmax | Forum: Carrara
I have MAX and Carrara too, and Carrara is just collecting dust. The one thing I like about it is the speed of the hybrid renderer. You can get some really fantastic results in almost no time. But since MAX has Brazil, Lightscape, finalRender (almost), MaxMAN, and Mental Ray, you can find the right renderer for you. I don't think I've used Carrara since I got MAX. The interface for Carrara is just not powerful enough (for me). I don't want to flame Carrara, it does a great job for the price, but MAX outshines it everywhere. You paid for it; might as well use it! I find it works fine with Poser and Bryce anyway.

Being a poser dork with wingding handwriting would do it for me! Great textures on the glasses.

I've been giving some thought to your transparency problem. Is it possible you have the refraction turned on? That might be the problem, as I've done that on many occasions myself. Good luck. LOVE the idea.

Chip, Great model! I can't wait to see the final one either. I do have a couple of points, though, not to rain on your parade, but because sometimes it's hard to get a fresh perspective. 1) The texture on the ship looks like it was run through MPEG-4 compression a few times. I think a much higher quality, perhaps even procedural texture would be just the thing. 2) That font doesn't really fit with the scene. It's so Arial. :) Maybe a more futuristic, dirtier looking font would be the way to go. Overall, though, I'm excited. How long is the render time gonna be? Hoborg
Thread: Hybrid vs Raytracer test, which one looks better?!?!?!?!?!? | Forum: Carrara
Here's my completely unprofessional opinion: These are all JPEGs. As such, they've gone through at least SOME compression to be put on Renderosity. You'd be better off using some sort of loss-less format such as BMP. But I can't tell a difference for these images, and I always use the hybrid renderer, since my computer is slow. :)

I learned 3d on TrueSpace 1. Since then, I've moved through Carrara and am on MAX now, but TrueSpace 5 looks great. They keep winning awards on Interface design and ingenuity. I'd be lost, since I'd still try to do it the old way, but they have a lot of great features, and a terrific renderer.Thread: Self Portrait WIP | Forum: Carrara
Thread: Changing working box size.....How do I change it?. | Forum: Carrara
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to do this yet in Carrara. You'll have to scale your entire scene down to fit in the box. You don't necessarily have to work inside the box, either, if you didn't know, it's just there for a guide.
