Thread: Vue going subscription | Forum: Vue

Please tell me if I get this about right. If I decided to go for 10 month Creator for modeling and 2 month professional for rendering in serious resolutions I would need:
- 10x $20 = $200
- 2x $75 = $150
- 1x $250 (for plant catalogue, as Creator version won't cut it).
That's $650 a year (instead of $990) and about $9750 until I get my old age pension ;) I think I'll pass and switch to C4D as long as they offer their perpetual license.
That’s about right and that’s why I don’t understand people that do this. I refuse to buy any software that’s subscription bases. First of all you pay more than what you used to pay, secondly no more skipping versions. You keep on paying.
Vue going subscription based forced me to rethink my way of doing art. I decided to invest some time and money into learning how to actually make real art. I now render my scenes with a paint brush. Cheaper than upgrading my expensive software and hardware. Way more fun and relaxing too.

What is her purpose? And is the figures her main concern or the cost?
I do think she has the main concern as anyone starting with Poser or Daz Studio..... cost. She made up her mind, it will not be Poser Pro, to steep of a price to get in. Most beginners don't need Poser Pro, they want to easily get into it, check it out and go from there. $199 isn't something you easily get into, Poser Debut was perfect for that purpose. Rendo doesn't offer it, so that's that. She's going for DAZ and might pick up some content she really likes there too. DAZ does understand one thing well...... marketing. You get people interested by offering something for free and once they're hooked you offer them a world of content. They are likely to spent a lot more the $199 that Rendo is asking, but don't need to pay at once. It's a shame. I still prefer Poser over DAZ Studio, but I do understand her reasoning for not wanting to pay $199 for something she just wants to check out.

Thanks. DAZ Studio would work indeed for that, but a bit of extra content is always nice. It's mainly for reference purpose.
A wooden mannequin is nice, but has it's limits, for me Poser is a huge goto when needed some poses. Having been using Poser since 1999 I build a huge library myself and there's so mayny stuff that comes in handy when doing traditional art. That's not her main purpose though.

Why don't you give her the choice and let her make up her own mind? I would, no matter which software I personally liked better.
That's of course the first thing I did I gave her the options and Poser Pro was quickly discarded, too much of an investment for her.

Okay I see, but for someone starting out the $49 it used to be or the $199 it is now is a big difference. I'm sure my friend will not invest $199 from the start, so DAZ3D it will be for her.

Thread: Quality what settings to use for printing? | Forum: Vue
I wouldn't go as low as you go, especially not if you do commercial printing, stuff that people buy. Why not? They're bound to take a closer look at what they've got and may not be pleased if the spot blocks, instead of details. 16x20 final print I would bump up to 2800x3500. Not a huge step up, but enough to even let the image look nice when you look at it close up. The last thing you want is a customer returning an artwork because of not high enough quality prints. I've dealt with enough clients to know that they take a look close up, even when their image is 16x20 or larger. When I render sizes between 8x11.7 inch and (I'm in Europe, slightly different paper sizes than yours) and 16x24 inch, I stick to 2500x3500 for each format between that range. If I need larger, my render size goes up, If I need smaller my render size goes down. At 8x11.7 inch clients tend to be very critical about the quality, so I want it to be good for lots of details. The get a bit less critical when you go larger, but still want crisp details. At least that's my experience...... contrary to what you say, most of my buyers do NOT stay an arms length from their prints. The pick them up and inspect them up close and want the best.
Don't compromise on this too much. Yes, for sure, you don't need those massive render sizes for larger formats, you wouldn't see much difference. Neither can you go too low, that will be noticeable.
By the way, even so all of this is true, once you go commercial, a lot of commercial printers will reject work that's below 300 dpi. I dealt with a client last week who insisted on 600 dpi. Granted, I didn't output my work at the huge pixel sizes that come with that, I simply used software to upscale my 300 dpi image to 600 dpi and he was happy with it. If your dealing with a commercial printer or agent you may want to check what they want. You can still render at less resolution then what they demand and use something like PhotoZoom to enlarge the image to their demands. Not Photoshop or so, they've got terrible upscale algorithms, dedicated software does the job a lot better.

I thought because you were going back in time I was wondering what happened to pappy. I am doing. some period renders in biblical times and looked for some of pappys stuff and its unavailable. Does anyone know where he is?<
Don't think you can get his stuff anymore. You can thank Renderosity and Smith Micro for that. Rendo had the policy that if something doesn't sell for a period of time, it gets removed from the store. Thanks to that policy, we lost a lot of great and very special poser content, never to be returned. Uploading items to a different store is a huge hassle, most of us just aren't bothered to do that anymore. Smith Micro closed a Content Paradise which was a huge refuge for great Poser content that was removed or rejected by Rendo. Consider it gone forever. I literary have 100's of content I created that sold decently at Content Paradise, but it's a huge headache to move it to a different store. Each store has it's own rules and regulations and promo render sizes. For me it would mean months of work to get it all moved to another store and I have other commitments to fullfill, so I lack the time. I'm guessing most of us are in that position and just moved on..... while leaving collections of content untouched on our backup drives.

Thread: Why can't Poser do this? Or can it? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser can do that, but it's not going to be easy and a lot of work. You would need to animate frame by frame to get it done. Houdini? Overkill. What you're looking for is something like Muvizu It's pretty easy to use and gets you great results. I once did a full animated story with it about10 minutes. Took me a while to create, but only because my computer at that time was slow in rendering and didn't have enough RAM. It was really fun to do though and Muvizu made it a lot easier then doing it in Poser or Vue.
In theory you can import Poser items into Muvizu. I've did some static ones, but never animated Poser stuff in Muvizu or imported animated stuff. Static items weren't a problem for me.

Thread: Poser 3 on Computer Chronicles 1999 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Life was simple back then. Rendo was different and simple back then too, a real joy to visit and so many resources were for free back then. I've still got Poser 3 CD's and CD with tons of stuff for it from those days. Poser 3 wasn't my first Poser though, that was Poser 1. I used that for posing my models for comics. Then Poser 2 came, then 3 which was really usable for more than just posing. Bryce3D, later Vue Esprit. After Poser 3 things started changing and the money started rolling and by the time Poser 6 was released that once so thriving community had been replaced by content driven merchants. Shame, I miss those days.
Looking back at all of this I can end with a positive and fun thought..... I've come full circle again, all that Poser is used for these days by is what it has been designed for originally..... posing of characters for my Artworks and Illustrations. Haven't made a decent render in years, but Poser still serves me well.

Honestly, you people's desire to find insult in what is simply common software practice is ending up insulting much more than Bondware.
Common in your world perhaps, but not in mine. I refuse to buy software that needs constant or periodically connection to the internet beyond activation, just because software companies are paranoid. Plenty of software that doesn't need an internet connection beyond activation. Actually still quite some software that is happy with a serial number only. I'm okay with companies wanting some activation through the internet the first time you start it and register. Beyond that, no thanks. You may have settled for all of this to be normal, but it really isn't normal at all. It's a huge invasion of our privacy and we've allowed software companies to do so..... under the so called 'its for your own protection' pretence. People accept way too many things as being normal way too easily these days.
I'm glad I found this thread, my Poser won't be updated, simple as that. I considered it, now not anymore. I don't need the latest version, it would be nice, but not a must. I decided to learn how to draw and paint a couple of yours back, my need for software like Poser and Vue has become minimal these days. All I use Poser for this these is to pose characters, it's back to it's roots for me.
Any company that forces me to use a cloud, internet connection or subsscription, isn't worth my money. For me it's as simple as that. Plenty of companies share that sentiment still.

Excuse me, but Bondware IS a software developer. They develop and market the software that runs the Renderosity site.
I think he's referring more to desktop software development. It depends on what languages Bondware's web frameworks run on and if they utilize any desktop software dev languages where the knowledge can cross over (ie using something like C/C++ in the backend). For instance, like Blender, Poser utilizes scripts and such written in Python, but at it's core Blender is written in C. I don't know what Poser's core is written in.
Thanks for saving me some typing. I can write a website from scratch, but aquiring software that runs on both Windows and MacOs and then writing the next version using that source code is something entirely different.

Thread: Renderosity Acquires Poser Software | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Interesting news, but what does that mean for the future of this software? You're a content developer/store, not a software developer at all. You bought Poser, but did you get a staff of developers with it as well? This move can be a good thing or the end of Poser. Will it face the same fate as all of the awesome software DAZ bought, namely Carrara 3D, Bryce 3D and Hexagon 3D...... ending up dead due to lack of know-how? Buying software is the easy part, modernizing, enhancing and improving it is something else. Did you get the technical know-how on the software as well? Do you have people that can actually take Poser to the next level? Congrats and let's hope Poser doesn't end up in the clearance department in time to come.

Thread: Poser Has a New Base Figure!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It's bad enough that thin anorexia supermodels exist in real life, but I don't really need another one for Poser. I've got plenty of thin supermodels in my poser already, more then I'll even use or want to use.
Those 'what the community is saying' comments though.... seriously?
Deecey said:
I switched to DS for a while and it was like a breath of fresh air to have decent figures and content to work with, even though it took me months to learn DS and how to make content in it. I had hopes with each new figure that came out for Poser and as much as I appreciated all the work that people went into it, I’ve always preferred the long lean supermodel look, pretty right out of the box, the “fantasy” type shape. That was the “it” factor that was missing for me. Most of the Poser figures that were coming out had shapes that were more “real world” oriented, and I, like many in the Poser community, like fantasy and fashionista art. Now La Femme is "it."
Nerd3d said:
The La Femme figure for Poser 11 uses a beautifully sculpted base model that gives artists what they need to create beautiful images. The advanced rigging is designed to make her easy to pose and keeps the complexities of the figure out of your way. La Femme comes with a wide variety of morphs as well as the ability to be further sculpted with scaling and body control handles. She includes highly detailed texture maps and hybrid materials that work in both FireFly and SuperFly. This gives you capability and usability no other figure offer.
Having the developers posing (no pun intended) as community is so not done. Others are supporting content vendors... not great either. That whole story by Deecey was almost ridiculous. I left Poser, but because of La Femme I'm back.... duh, sure.
Well.... I'm not spending $3.50 on her. If you give something away for free then really let it be free.

80 fully clothed and textured figures and at least extra 100 props and a landscape, rendered at 4000x4000 pixels. I'm limited to 32Gb of memory, but with machines with more RAM more shouldn't be an issue. Contrary to TheDarkerSideOfArt I had to close everything else running to get it done.
