Thread: was there an easy way to make hand grasp dial? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
yeah it needed to be Mid not Middle. I used s&r in Wordpad and PoserFileEditor and got it sorted. No more auto-middle-finger-gesture ... which was amusing but not really appropriate to the figure lol

ok riddle me this ... I added the grasp, thumb and etc dials and they work .. except on the middle finger. Um. I have rPinky, rMiddle, rIndex and rThumb. is this a naming thing? ALyson2 appears to have rMid. I'm going to be very cross if I have to go back and rename things

Actually a lot of the DAZ morphs use the same names across the figures and poser is a literalist. So if you save a plain old MOR (dial spinning) pose without any of the INJection coding in it , then yes you can apply it to any old figure and any dial that matches will spin. Sometimes to good effect, but if nothing else good for a laugh. :) This is especially true of expression poses ... slap those onto any figure you want and see what happens. I've had expression poses meant for v3 work on m4 so its at least worth a try.
Proper INJection poses have special coding under the hood, or ought to, and those will work only on the figure they belong to for the most part. However, not all INJection poses are created equal, so when in doubt pop open the pz2 in a text editor. if you see anything more complicated than a list of bodyparts channels like xrotate with numbers following, then it is probably a proper injection pose. Certainly anything that has a geometry call (a line of text with a directory path in it like runtime/poser11/!DAZ/deltas and etc) is an injection.
So if you have a collection of characters with nice bodies, load them into your figure, zero out the head morphs, and save the body only as a pose file. Then you can apply and then load your head of choice. Or, if you feel brave, you can pop the pz2 open in PoserFileEditor and delete the section for the Head bodypart (and eyes) and resave it. Then you should be able to load that pose over any head you like, assuming all the morphs it wants are loaded in the body.
If the body is custom morphs though, like GND4 by Blackhearted, then you will need to continue using its own INJection. And for the faint of heart ... yes I do have a magnet set to help fit clothing to that one, since the changes are so extreme :)

Many vendors ignore the body when making custom shapes because for a long time it was difficult to fit clothing to new body shapes and so it was not an important selling feature for content. Since many artists don't like to change their habits, this means that they don't think user's want custom bodies.
However custom body shape are no longer an issue. DAZ built autofitting in their program for their native figures for this reason. However newer versions of Poser have the morph transfer tool which does the same thing with more control and does very nicely in most cases (Heavy is generally a lost cause). If you have an older version of poser the utility 'morphing clothes' also transfers morph shapes into clothing. All three options take about 15 seconds or less.
So .. you should try emailing the vendor and nicely asking for custom body options for their figures. If the vendors know you will buy character X if there is also a custom body for it, they are more likely to make it. I stress, ask NICELY. Artists are delicate creatures.

Thread: M4 morphs to V4 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
oh well. isnt that awkward. DAZ appears to have deleted the product.
um
there used to be a utility for converting the morphs, I think. not certain on that.

Vittorio for V4 by pdxjims has a version that takes m4 injectors and maps. Likewise, M4 Enhanced has an m4 that takes v4 injectors. Both should be at DAZ.

if people want clothing products of mine for genesis 2, all they need to do is ask. I don't use DS only figures or DSON so I generally only develop for genesis figures if there is a direct request. That being said I do have a g2f female set in the queue at ... not here. Female viking though, so may not be your cuppa.

the method Tony mentioned has this process - scale down the figure and sculpt your child/teen/whatever. Ignore the 'don't move that' rules and do whatever you like. Then when the morph is brought back to the figure you make a set of joint edits to fit the rigging to the morph and freeze it so when the morph is dialed the joints are changed. For the end user everything just works like magic. I have made a proof-of-concept faun type morph for v4, turning her entire lower body into goat legs and freezing the rerigging to match. Seemed to work fairly well, and for that sort of very transformative morph it is a useful method.
However - the drawback is that trying to match this morph in clothing is a pain in the tuchus, as the scaling is built into the morph and thus not match-able easily. This means that making clothing that fits the figure may be difficult if not impossible.
In my method I keep the morph and the scale separate, so they can be matched separately and clothing fitting is easier. With the Conform To Scale option in poser the scaling mostly sorts itself out now, and fitting the morph itself is also much easier with the morph transfer tool or the morph brush.
Its one of those tomato, tomahto things. Both methods have their merit, and best time to be used. For animals and monsters I'd use the all-in-one method. For humans splitting them out seems to be the easiest to support in conformers.
You can flip any figure over to having weight maps, or add weightmaps to an existing figure easily. But its like joint fix morphs or any other mesh deformation - if its not supported in the clothing then the clothing will still move like normal and no visible progress will have been made. At least a fix morph can be copied over to clothing via morph transfer.
For artists making mostly naked girls, the benefit is obvious. For artists rendering clothed figures, it may not be worth the bother.

Thread: I heard there was a way to make injection poses in poser 11 without needing | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
note - Poser can get confused on export. all morph parts need to be visible for export and have the same name. DAZ's morphs have different names for the Body dial and other dials and therefor do not always export
Conversely, all channels being injected to need to be visible or poser once again gets confused. This becomes an issue if you have a morph with bodypart scaling attached, as DAZ hid the scale dials on bodyparts.
Also a morph exported in this way can be loaded and used fine in poser to, and I believe poser 9 as well. I don't know about earlier versions, but in theory any version of poser that accepts PMD morphs should do fine.

Well I'm still making content for m4/v4, wand I will be converting them up and down to cover several other figures. But I won't be selling them here since they will get buried, not sell, and then get deleted. I agree the store has been full of DS only content recently - which I too am not buying. Well at least I'm finally getting a chance to catch up on my wishlist!

Thread: Are people still using V4? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Not reading all of this.
Trekkie - Yes people still use V4 and M4. My latest products, Child Dial and Height Dial for V4 and M4 are doing very well. In fact, as I start to build the characters for my upcoming graphic novel I expect to be using mainly v4 and m4. I have the largest variety of content for those figures, which when I start looking at populating entire street scenes in a steampunk city, is going to make my life simpler. I made the child dials specifically for my graphic novel, so I could use gen4 clothing on children and not go crazy trying to convert thousands of assets. I have not invested in any other figure bases at the moment.
If you are going to make gen4 stuff again I'm certainly going to look forward to seeing it!

Files have been encoded, packed and sent out to my two volunteer testers. They may yet regret this :) Tomorrow I start making promo images. Feel free to make image requests in this thread.
