ok..I was hoping to change lighting. I would think they would want that in future versions. I would think that would be usefull. Anyway...The head I am making is solid color no texture. A light gray. I was hoping the shadow or lighting would allow me to focus on the characters shape without distraction of texture. thanks

I set that up. I do see the side of the planet. but when I look at the test object of sphere and I look at the move values they are only showing km or meters not long or lat. where is the lat and long displayed? as i move the sphere it slides over the planet but I dont see where lat and long are displayed?

I will explain the reason for my madness. It has to do with trying to composite 3d character in real world and have it look believable.
Attched is image of frame clip I saw on making of starwars Ep.2
In everyscene where there was a 3d character composited the production guy held up a silver ball and a model of character.
The question is. What is the ball for? I could think of only two possible things each not perfect but please include your ideas for what you think the ball is for.
The Theory is if the ball was more solid perhaps all the lights on the location would be recorded on that ball so that if I used a still frame of the guy holding up the ball you could use the ball light controls like poser uses to match your 3d characters highlights then match with the ball from your real environment thus making a great composite.
The other theory is the sphere image reflection is captured and used on the character for a realistic reflection map. But that has flaws because the production guy could be scene in the reflection.
Sooo...although I am venturing into a non poser topic. What is the reflection ball for?
I believe my theorys are close in accuracy but stil they arent perfect.

Well I have tryed hexagon now today and looked at tutes on the tube and I am sold.
Maybe I missed it but can you set pictures as backgrounds in hexagon for reference?
Wonder why no hexagon forum on rederosity?
I couldnt even find the cost of optiquest but this hexagon is pretty great so far so I am bailin on optitex.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody. Hexagon looks pretty nice. If I were you I would look at mudbox before zbrush.
Mudbox is way easier to learn. Zbrush has a higher learning curve and I couldnt stand it. I think that difficulty alone may eventually leave zbrush behind as other programs pickup its capabilities and churn out more great art.

I was thinking more dynamic clothing. I rather like the idea that Optitex has of making patterns etc.
Like maybe do that at the start to get shapes right and then bring into mudbox for some basic wrinkles and export again in max. Some work flow kind of like that.
Any other ideas from anyone?
