I havnt used car in a long long time but i believe theres an option you can check to make fully transparent areas invisible. Look for it at the bottom of the shader tree
Thread: Carrada Studio - What are nurbs | Forum: Carrara
Yea, you can get 3.6.5 free but its not that much. I bought the pro package for $700 dollars which includes Pixels 3.7, particles, shader maker pro, the extras pack, printed manuals, Tempest (when its released), Pixels 4 (also when its released), and alot of other goodies. I'm in it for the free upgrade to pixels 4 tho :D .

I just have to point out that the mesh and render are not Max. It's kinda like a mac version of max called PiXELs that costs the same amount as carrara.

NURBs or Non Uniform Rational B-splines are a type of aproximating spline. This means that if you have 4 control points positioned like the coners of a square, the resulting spline would be a circle. NURBs allow you to creat complex surfaces with only a few UV coordinates. I made the model below using NURBs It's near impossible to produce such effects with a polygon modeler. Modeling with NURBs is alot like modeling with clay. Its 100x faster and easier. Im not sure the same applies for NURBs in Amapi tho.
Thread: Riven | Forum: Carrara
Yes, Riven is very inspiring. I would darken the scene alot. The terrain on the left looks blockish, did you check the smooth normals option? Also, in this scene in Riven, the bridge goes into that mountain and theres a cool looking door way. You may want to do that in this scene as it would look really cool. And add some white haze to hide the horizon. Mmmm chocolate rocks :D
Thread: Is Carrara good for broadcast animations? | Forum: Carrara
If I had to rate it 1 to 10 (1 being somthing like Bryce 1 and 10 being Maya), i would give it a 4&1/2. Pros Very nice procederal shading Cool deformers Quick and Easy animating Fast rendering Friendly interface Well organized tools and functions Cool volumetric primatives such as fire, clouds, and fog Cool particle systems Built in sky generator Cons Weak modeling techniques (basic splines (lofting, extruding, sweeping ect.), metaball, and polygon modeling) below standard render quality Poor integration between modeling and assembling Cheap terrain primative No caustics No bones No fusion Unpredictable/exagerated subdivision Poor antialiasing I could keep going but i think you get the picture. Its a decent piece of software and the new Carrara Studio is worth the price because its bundled with Amapi. I would recommend looking around at other packages before you buy Carrara.

Have they done anything to improve the renderer? Right now, the image quality is not up to standard, IMHO.
