Thread: Holiday Contest 2020 Discussion - Completed | Forum: Animation
Wolf - Sounds like you're on a mission. From my standpoint, the contest worked fine, I just filled out the entry forms and everything got uploaded. The only problem was self-inflicted, I forgot to compress the file down more than the defaults in Vegas Pro - I should have learned my lesson last time with the stuttering streaming. But then you let me correct that, so its all good. I don't understand why my entry worked this time when others didn't, assuming they were uploading MP4's. I do recall a year or two back that my MP4 did not upload correctly, even though you could play it fine. But you eventually worked that one out also, I think by downloading it and re-uploading it, or something.
One thing seems to be true, a minute of animation (1280x720, 24 fps) needs to be an MP4 file under 20MB I think, based on my streaming experience with a so-so DSL line. In Vegas Pro, I got this by adjusting the Variable Bit Rate to 4,000,000 max and 2,000,000 average. The defaults are 16,000,000 and 8,000,000, which gave me an MP4 file size of about 65MB, which stuttered a lot when streaming.
Also, if possible you might want to delete the upload choice "File or Video", since it has to be video for the animation contest.

Okay, thanks. The second one is much better, a few pauses while streaming but keeps ahead of the playback ... barely, mostly ... So the first one can be deleted.

Thanks for all the effort, Wolfenshire. Don't worry about my entry if you're too busy, hopefully it will stream OK for folks with fast Internet.

Can you try streaming my entry to see if it runs smoothly? If not, I would like to delete it and re-enter with a more compressed file. I realize there's a risk ...

For me, its highly detailed scenes/props at reasonable prices. Here at Renderosity, good examples are the product offerings from London224, mostly for Poser and Vue (I have 30+). Another example is Coflek-Gnorg, I have 129 of his (hers?). Beyond Renderosity, a great example is Luigi Marini's Vue scenes, now at CGTrader since Cornucopia3D is dead. His typical price is $12 for vast and detailed scenes, often on sale also. And he is very responsive to questions.

There are no restrictions on uploads, this being an online contest with no ticket sales to worry about. So here it is, "Circus Day", four minute animation done in Carrara:

I just finished our entry and got it uploaded along with all the release forms, etc. We drew the Buddy and/or Horror genres, the character was an athlete (male or female), the line "I have good news and bad news" and the prop a flashlight. Happily, combining genres is encouraged, so our entry is a Horror/Comedy, four minutes long. One new contest feature was a way of getting a CheckSum for the finished movie without actually uploading the whole thing (took a few minutes), so you can then upload it the next day and the CheckSum verifies its the same video. No extra time for making the video, but no desperate attempt to upload it at the deadline (a couple of hours). Seemed to work fine for our 250MB video.
I'm happy with our entry, but with 50 worldwide teams, there's gonna be some knockouts, I think.
I don't know when I can upload the video, probably not until the judges are finished. Maybe a trailer, but I don't see anything in the rules, so I asked them via email.

As long as Poser buildings & props work in Carrara, I'll be fine.
Whenever I have a choice between a Daz version & Poser version of an item, I always go with Poser. I'm rarely disappointed.
Same here. I long ago gave up trying to use Daz Studio items in Carrara. Happily, lots of great Poser content still being published here.

Compared to the horror that is Poser's UI, Carrara's is fun.
Amen to that.

Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate these notices. And I always love your entries.
Thanks. Its really just a way to goad myself into doing some animating. Plus if it doesn't dome out good, I can say we only had two days ... not as good an excuse this time with four days, but still ...
