And I thought Yorksire tykes talked funny, appen!! Nice work Tedz and Jordy. I agree with jordy that Tedz may be mixing the Scots with Geordie! but thats a distance thing! Take care all Dave (PS - for those of you who don't speak fluent Geordie, there are no known devices that will translate into the English. I think even Star Trek would be hard pressed!!) Bye!

Thread: Model Release | Forum: Photography
Looks fairly ok, Donald. I don't know exactly for how US law applies, but here in the UK, the forms I use are a little simpler (less legal-ese).
I suppose it depends on the markets you're entering. I generally sign off release of all digital files, negs and releases to the copyright owner (me) and include the usual liabilities.
Dunno if you already have it, but look at getting some indemnity cover. I am a member of the SWPP and the BPPA in the UK. Their site may have some info for you.
www.swpp.co.uk or just search.
Not much, I know, but I hope it helps. Good luck with the classes!

Thread: Metallic paper | Forum: Photography
Have done some digital prints onto metallic paper (Silver and Gold) in the past and they looked pretty good!.. just a couple of things to be aware of - 1) make sure you print on the correct side. I did'nt. The print looked great until I lifted the paper up and turned it into a multi-coloured waterfall. 2) It can be difficult if you intend to frame under glass or perspex. Make sure the print is completely dry and use a reasonably thick mount between it and the glass.
One other point, wear those gloves that are used for handling negs, as the metallic paper picks up fingerprints like crazy!!
Just my ten pence worth!!

Michelle - Gory as it may seem, take a look at www.sandygardner.co.uk - She is a young British digital artist who sometimes uses animal bones/skulls in her work. I think she drops them on the scanner and works from there. Go have a look-see!! Dave

Thread: Minolta Dimage A1 | Forum: Photography
Hi ratto! Caught you post! To be honest, I've only had the A1 about six or seven weeks, and I have'nt had a lot of time to test it (especially outside!). I have used it in the studio and have yet to find anything to fault it. The viewfinder is the best I've seen outside a DSLR. I used a Fuji 6900z previously, and that was grainy, but the A1 is very very clear! One little niggle (and if anyone knows how to get around this, I'd be grateful!) is that the viewfinder darkens when the shot is focused, almost like some kind of DOF preview. As yet, I have'nt found any reference to why it does this or how to turn it off! The Minolta A1 is well put together, and if you have used a "7", then you'll find your way around easily. I opted for the battery pack which will house 2 Lithium batteries. I have used this 2 battery set up in the studio for 6 hours, without recharging the cells. So scores on the battery life for me! (The packe also allows the camera to be used in "portrait" orientation more easily, which I find better for the kind of work I do. The images themselves are excellent (IMHO). I do tend to wash my work thru Photoshop, but work I have done for other people involving "straight" shots has been very well received. At the end of the day, its down to choice. I was lucky enough to be able to blag the use of the A1 for a weekend prior to purchase, and this influenced my decision. Dunno if this is any help to you, but its my ten pence worth! Cheers:)

Thread: Need Advice On Lighting Set-Ups | Forum: Photography
Sound advice from one and all, Michelle. My tuppence worth iwould be to think about studio flash heads (strobes?) with a good modelling lamp capability. I have on occasion shot just using the modelling lamps to get a "warm" effect. Works more often than not!. Fear not with digital. I now exclusively shoot digital and use the same metering method I did for film (external meter. No reported problems so far! Hope the business is a success! Work Hard, but enjoy it too!! Cheers Dave
