This is my MacBook Pro, not networked or used in any fashion like that. It is my home computer. The funny thing is I was able to install the Vue 8 Infinite PLE from the disk but not Carrara. When i followed the directions on the link above it installed with out any problems.

 Well I first tried installing direct from the DVD. That didn't work so I copied the installation file to my Mac Book and then tried to install. That didn't work either. I restarted, that didn't work.  :(

As a LW and Blender (and Vue) user I agree with what everyone has said, especially Warlock. My suggestion is give Blender a try for a few months. Don't try anything else and concentrate on really learning it. Then if you feel like you can't do what you want then try the LW demo. Both are excellent programs, but if landscapes are truly what you want to do then I would check out the book "Creating 3D worlds" by Simon Danaher. It is an excellent book that explains the differences between all-around apps (like LW and Blender) and specific ones like Vue.
If all you want to do is landscapes I would just get Vue. There is a demo of Vue 6 Infinite available too.

Best of luck and remember it is the imagination not the app...take a look at the movie "Big Buck Bunny" - you can find it at CGTalk in the Vue forum. Someone posted a link to the movie. It is amazing. Great style and quality.

Ok I understand that but I made a simple drawing of a house. How do I create an alpha image to use in a 3D software app? Do I just use the magic wand and select everything but the house and make it black. The go back and use the magic wand to select the house and make it white. Then save image (tiff for example) and then use it in 3D app?

PS_ after I use the magic wand and fill the area with the necessary color, how do I unselect the tool without undoing the operation I just performed?

Sueposer - ok got it to work - my fault. Now the figure has morph targets for the head but I can't seem to find them. Do you know where I should look?

I followed your directions and when I go to install it says the folder doesn't have any runtime files in it. Ok now I don't have Poser on my system so when I go to install tha Daz figure it asks for the application to associate it with (choices are Daz studio and a bunch of poser options). I chose "Poser (All Files)".  Could this be the problem. I checked the runtime folder on my desktop and all the files are in there so I don't know why it won't recognize it.

I would also add that you need to consider if you are going to network or exchange files with other people to get projects done. If you are then obviously look to what apps they are using. C6Pro is a defiinitley a pro-capable app. Try the demos of the apps you consider - that is always the best and go to www.vtc.com and check our Mark Bremmer's Carrara 6 Pro training. The first several lessons are free and you can get a feel for the app that way.

The C6Pro training vids by Mark are excellent. I too joined for the month and will watch them all in that time. But I am also thinking of buying it as a reference. It might seem alittle high in cost but this is worth it (and I have bought alot of video training CDs/DVDs) over the years.
You won't go wrong either way.

I went thru a number of sections last night...kinda skipping around. So far....one of the best I have ever seen (and I have seen alot...probably too much...LOL). Mark your explanations are clear, concise and the way you relate a function to real world examples is invaluable...brilliant really.  I thought I understood alot of Carrara...been a user on and off since Ray Dream, but I have learned something in every video I have watched.
Congrats on a great job. I look forward to finishing the rest of videos and doing better 3D work in C6 Pro!!
