mdt, You may want to consider "Data Rescue II - The leading recovery software for the Mac". Although I don't know if it'll work with the Intels, I have used a couple of times on my Power PC G5 successfully. It wasn't that expensive and I recovered everything. I had a power outage while running utilities and the drive wasn't even recognized after that. If I remember correctly, DRII was the only program the found the drive too.
