I like the look of the iRay render. I don't use Daz Studio very much, but I did a recent test of animating and rendering with it (in my ‘To Be or Not To Be’ movie). The Daz implementation of iRay renders much faster than the current version in iClone.

Thanks for watching and for your feedback, Jack238.
My CyBoRgTy Production (“one man band”) intro clip with the cyborg (the first 20 seconds) was animated and rendered in Maya (I used ‘Daz to Maya’ to move Generation 8 Cyborg model to Maya). The cockroach and the toon man that crushes it were animated and rendered using IRay in DAZ Studio. The volumetric lighting, which is seen while the roach is reciting Hamlet, I added/faked in post using Adobe After Effects.

Nice work here. I like the shots inside the BatCave and the exterior of Superman's Fortress Of Solitude.
Glad you enjoyed the movie. For both shots, I spent a lot of time modeling, but I also used lighting to help set mood/enhance the shots. In the Bat Cave, I used a slightly foggy environment (used Octane Scattering medium on Environmental Texture) and gobo lights with bat mask as well as movement (water, bats flying, batman, etc.). In the Fortress of solitude, I used environment lighting as well as Octane lights inside the structure.

I know what you mean. Work has been busy and keeping me from playing with this stuff as much as I like. But I will play more during the next couple of weeks (time from work). I need to look for your Rendo Halloween contest entry..

I think the Lightwave sale is a very good deal. Since you have Poser/Poserfusion, you can continue to use the assets that you purchased from Daz. I have been mainly using characters that I create, but I plan to use poserfusion in a future project (one for which I am tempted to use Carrara). Mark B is correct about where the Poser animation adjustments have to be made (of course if the animation is exported as an mdd or other cache format, then chronoscope could be used for some adjustments).
I really like nevron motion and how it brings motion retargeting to lightwave. With it you rig your character with a certain rig. After that any motions imported can be regargeted to your character. I used it in a couple of places in the above movie; retargeted perception neuron motion and retargeted motion generated in iClone). Most of the animation in this was key frame method and not mocap. , There will be a learning curve. How steep depends on what you already know technically and what skills you process that can be used in any 3d package. Lightwave is powerful but different when compared with Cararra.

Thanks. Glad you liked it. I continued to become more acquainted with Lightwave thru this project.

Glad you liked it. Seeing the skeletons is suppose to make you wonder about a part two or episode 2.
Since my real job has kept me busy and I was learning Lightwave, this was the 1st time I posted an animated movie this year. I plan to post something at least once a month (or two; at least I will try).

I see what happened. I use the 'iframe' tag and everything looked fine in the preview window (showed Youtube video image). But upon saving, the video image/link is not shown.

I would edit the original text, but I can't figure out how.

I'm pretty sure I included one and saw it in the preview.Let me try again.

Thread: Carrara animation rendered using Octane | Forum: Carrara
Attached Link: http://render.otoy.com/
Octane is a realtime physical-based renderer that uses your GPU (http://render.otoy.com/). This renderer can render full global illuminated scenes much faster than the Carrara built-in renderer. There is a standalone version as well as plugins for many different 3D packages and Carrara was just added to the list (you must purchase the standalone to use the plugin versions). The plugin allows you to see in a realtime viewport (at final render quality) the updates you make to your materials/textures, lights, objects, etc. Its a wonderful thing to behold! So, as a test and to learn the plugin, I rendered this animation using the plugin and not my small (home-based) render farm. These frames rendered at an average of 25 seconds per frame (1280 x 720). There are a few lighting models (Direct Lighting, PMC, & Path Tracing) and which one you use as well as number of samples are the main things that affects the performance / render time per frame;Direct Lighting gives shorter times, PMC next, and then Path Tracing. For a chosen frame in this movie (indoor shot), I noticed the following render times when switching between these at 1000 max samples:
Direct lighting - 28 seconds
PMC - 42 seconds
Path Tracing - 1 minute 40 seconds
But what you get depends on several things like the scene objects, materials, lighting, etc. The outdoor scene in this movie rendered at 28 seconds per frame when using Path Tracing. For the indoor shots (and since this was mostly a test) I used the Direct Lighting model because I didnt see a big enough difference to justify the longer render times.
Another key item that will impact performance will be your graphic card(s) and their CUDA CPUs. The more the merrier! I have two GTX 780's which are good performers.
I believe Carrara's renderer is very capable and I will probably still use it for some things in the future (especially since Octane does not support rendering everything; i.e Carrara hair). But the list of things it cannot handle is getting shorter as the developing is very focused on making updates to improve the plugin.
