You might want to look at the NVida 570 or such. From what I've heard they improved the GPU used in the GTX 480 and made it run both better and cooler. I would stay away from the Quadra; I looked into the performance differences when I was building my office (spare bedroom really, but I can dream) system. I was able to get a GTX 480 and have enough left over for Photoshop rather than get a Quadra.

I used photoshop much like the tutorial suggested, then isolated black eyebrows. I changed these to green, and merged them back to the original texture (renamed of course).
And the result is above.

Quote - What's actually a lot of fun is breaking out your tablet and drawing your own masks to use in the above technique. Sky's the limit... you can make those eyebrows *eXACtly what they are supposed to look like.
I would love to do that, but I'm not that good at drawing on my Wacom yet, at least for small details like this. I know I have to figure it out eventually, but this is just a character study for a web-comic I'm writing which will be processed into an illustration form rather than fully realistic. I figure any small details I mess up in the eyebrows will be lost in the translation. Or at least I hope so. :)
And I'm just using green to make her stand out more because she's one of the major characters.
Thanks for the responses.

Australia? Then there's no hope for them, is there? :)
Sorry. I should have looked. And I don't know of the computer stores down there; given the internet, they must have something.

Thank you! That technique should enable me to make a mask so that I can color the eyebrows as I want.

ps. Great sale.

NewEgg is still having its Black Friday sale for the rest of this evening, and you can get a lot of great stuff.
I just bought a combo with two MSI N450GTS Cyclone cards. These are NVidia chipsets and are fairly inexpensive. They are about $130 per card. My main computer has an NVidia GeForce 480 GTX which is nice, but I'm not using its full power at the moment.
I also have an i7-950 quad-core processor and 12 gig RAM for this computer (this is just going to be a Linux box for use with Blender and LuxRender and such) and not my Poser box.
I know that LuxRender is supposed to be going towards using graphics cards (GPUs) for increased speed and most of the other 3d packages are at least making noises that way with some progress.
It all depends on your budget. I would definately recommend a 64-bit OS (Windows 7 is working fine for me on my main machine), and at least 6 gigabytes of RAM.
Another thing to consider is portability. If you need to travel with your computer you need a small system or a laptop. And powerful laptops are expensive. I should have thought about that before ordering my system, because I could have gotten a Shuttle barebones system - their upper end now can use the more powerful i-7 processors and are very small.
Good luck!

Thread: What character to use for a 15-year old girl? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've decided to go with Lenka. I can fit most clothing to her which I can't with some of the others.
Since I'm going to be moving this thing to blender eventually, I've thought of going completely blender, but that's a lot of work (though there is a plug-in to import poser characters including rigging). But I will be starting in Poser for the foreseeable future and will put up a gallery image of her.
Thank you for all the input. I will have to look at the ones I don't know much about.
And yes, I have all the Arcebus characters and for one reason or another decided against them.

Thank you all.
I did think about A3; she is still a favorite of mine. But I have not seen a decent "young woman" texture for her even with the realistic morph. A3 is great for some things, and was meant to look like a teen-aged anime character, however this didn't seem to carry over.
I think that Aislinn looks too old, and I'd totally forgotten about Tindra (mainly because her "teen" morph is too tall for what I need).

I don't have LittleOne, but I do like Steph Petite. Unfortunately she doesn't fit my conception of the character. Most of the SP heads look too old, though the height is right.
With Lenka (market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php) I can use many of my V4 clothing items, of which I've accumulated way too many. And she is barely short enough to fit the bill.

Currently I'm using a "Teen Lenka" character for V4 which has V4 scaled about 94%. I'd rather have something a bit shorter, but it's the best I've found.
Laura is just too short when compared with V4 and she looks too much like a child.
I still want to see a really good set of height morphs that take into account the different reasons people are different heights (age, leg length, chest length, etc.). Someday when I have the time to do the research I should be able to write a script to do this. Oh well.

Is Laura old enough? The character I'm thinking of should be just old enough to be both a woman and a child. Somewhere about early high school (US) age.

Thread: Correct scale for exporting an obj from Poser to Max | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - The official (efrontier/sm) scale is 1PNU(Poser Nativ Unit) = 262,128 cm
I think that translates to 8.6 ft. I thought that it was 8.3 feet.
Does anybody know why the PNU was changed from 8 ft to 8.3 ft? I can't see where it makes anything easier; all it does is to mess up the various prop sizes (depending on if they use the old PNU - which DAZ uses - or the new PNU).

I am reminded of a (quite real) committee meeting at Penn State about posting an agricultural image database to the web. At the end of the meeting we were absolutely forbidden from posting any pictures of slaughtering cows, because this could offend people of the Hindu religion. At no time was anybody of said religion consulted and several of the professors involved objected that without these pictures entire parts of their courses would be invalid.
If you go through life worrying that everything you do or say might offend somebody, you're going to do nothing but hide in your room eating, drinking, and breathing nothing. Of course doing this will cause you to die, and that might offend whomever discovers the body. :)

I'm willing to try, but can you tell me if this is your original design or if I need to change it?
