Thank you people for your advices, Im from Prague ( Czech rep ) so sorry for my wrong English ( you know "eastern block" ). Its difficult to say "motitor is wrong". If I make just office work Ill have no objections. But I work with 3ds max more than 10 hours a day and its quite hard work for my eyes. This is the reason why Im so "fastidious". For example my previous 8 years old monitor IBM P200 had the same unsharpness, but it was "uniform" over all screens area. I have no magnetic sources around. Reseller simply asserts " we have a deal with iiyama and if you have problems contact directly their service, they are obliged to solve them". And iiyama declared "it must be possible to read 10pt texture under 1600 x 1200; but it cant be perfect sharp". And it is possible. Just for fun Im publishing correspondence with iiyama ( Mr.Ulrich Zott Dipl.-Ing. Product manager - Germany ): GASPO: On 2nd May 2003 I bought your product, monitor iiyama HM204DT. Delivery boy delivered to me one, I had to paid cash ( price is equal two month salary in our location ) and after instalation I found out the monitor is defective. The picture was not sharp. Immediately I contacted iiyama service. They were quite fast and willing, so after about 3 days they took away imperfect monitor ( I got spare - older 19 ). Serviceman has contacted me by phone and asked what resolution and frequency I use - for better setting. I suppose he did what he was able to and on 13th May I got the monitor back. I have to say the picture quality is much better, the monitor is usable now, but its still not perfect. Sharpness is not uniform over the screen area. Im not any clerk, I need perfect view ( I though, your product couldnt be a "shit"). I do CG art, my eyes look at screen more than 10 hours a day and for example if I looked at viewport in left down corner where all is correct and then I move to upper right ( unfocussed ), my eyes try to focalise, in vain of course, and I have headache soon. And of course I need sharp view for my work. Reseller dont want to take it back and service is not able to tune it. Im expecting a solution from you. IIYAMA: I am sorry for your problem with our monitor. It's very difficult for me to give you a statement now. I do not have enogh informations. Every CRT Monitor has a limit in topic of sharpness. The sharpness is also depending on the graphiccard and other components This should nt be an excuse. If you want a more detailed statement, please give me following information: used resolution used refresh rate manufacturer and modell of your graphiccard which OPQ mode (OSD of Monitor) is activated have you checked for Moiree? GASPO: There is a problem with non-uniform sharpness. Graphic card: ASUS V6800 ( Ge Force 256 ) Motherboard : ASUS P3B-F Resolution:1280x960 32 bit Refresh rate: 85 Hz ( problem occurs in all resolutions and rates, just an unfocused area moves depends on it ) Ive checked all settings in the menu, include Moire. OPQ: I use "picture" but in "text" mode is the same problem and "movie" mode is designed for DVD, so of course I dont use it for my work, just for playing animations it is quite good possibility. For certain, next completive info: Ive checked other cables, near monitor there are not any disturbing sources, Ive tried to move monitor ( temporary spare monitor - 6years old iiyama 19 worked perfectly ), when I installed monitor firs time, it has wrong colors, but when I had applied Degauss, colors became O.K. In resolution 1280x960 85 Hz there is unfocused area in right vertical half of screen, it has smooth transition. In smaller resolutions, area moves to the vertical centre. My 8years old IBM P200-trinitron ( it served out ) had sharpness like this one in unfocused area, but the same on all space of the screen, and for example in my previous job I had Sony monitor with 22 flat screen and it had perfect sharp picture everywhere. Wow, I dont know what else can I say, but ask me if you need of course. IIYAMA: there is one thing I would like you to check. In the OSD is one feature called OPQ. Please make sure that Text Mode is active. And please check the function Moiree in the OSD. This function should have an effect to the sharpness. At least of the area of bad sharpness. waiting for your answer. GASPO: Well, Ive checked it already, but O.K. I tried it again. Ive adjusted Moire = 00%, I activated "Text mode" and softly increased Moires value. Result: picture became more unsharpen yet and from value 50% up started to shake. 00% value is the best I can adjust. The same result is in "Picture mode". Ive tried to compensate this by "Convergence", no improve. **************** a week no answer******************* GASPO: Mr.Zott, Im waiting for your answer. If you rate as goner, let me know please. IIYAMA: checked the situation with our subsidary in CZ.Your monitor were adjusted as good as possible. Maybe you expect to much, as you mentioned in your fisrt mail. a CRT is a CRT and will never create a "perfect" picture. each Monitor have strengthening and weakening. CRTs will never have a perfect sharpness. If you looking for this characteristic, I advise a LCD. But with a LCD you will have other disadvantages. To check the sharpness on 22" CRTs: it must be possible to read 10pt texture under 1600 x 1200; but it cant be perfect sharp. sorry, but to solve your problem, I see only one chance: use a LC Display best regards, Uli Zott. GASPO: O.K. Mr.Zott I take your answer like final iiyamas point of view on my problem. But I dont think so. You dont want to understand, my problem is not imperfect sharpness, but non-uniform sharpness. Analog screen is better for my work than LCD, because it has natural antialiasing, but your product is a "shit" which harrows my eyes and is not for professional use. Im going to proceed accordingly. THE END Im going to contact TCO if "readable 10pt texture" is sufficient standard.
