Ok I received it 11:55am this morning... Just a quick question though... if an image is checked as having nudity... why doesnt the site just generate a blank thumb, like other sites do?

Quote - I see that Gora said,
I think the technical term is, "lens refraction"
I'm not sure about that ... I didn't find web references for that term that described this issue.Â
OTOH, the term "lens Flare" is well known, and abundantly documented.Â
I see that Gora also wondered about,
"If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet,

Does that help???

Thread: Post-working | Forum: Photography
Im a postwork junkie :) It depends I suppose... If I really like the image, stright off the cam.. I tend to do very little... odd touchups, like skin blemishes, and sharpening / smoothing, and thats it.... But other times, Ill go all out, and use a plethora of PS 3'rd party plugins... SOme of my favorites are made by Alien Skin, Picture code, Tiffen, Flaming Pear, Redfield and Richard Rosenham...

Thread: Sensor cleaning at home..do you do it? I am tempted. | Forum: Photography
I bought a cleaning kit some time ago... but a dry kit, not wet... I will upgrading soon to a either a 5D or a Mark II... so I will have to invest in a "wet kit" with swabs etc etc... But Ive heard from some of the newer Nikon owners, that the newer coating will be damaged with the older fluids... Apparently there is a newer type of fluid available for these sensors... I dont use Nikon, but just thought Id mention this.

Thread: Adobe Lightroom 2 beta Available | Forum: Photography
I have Lightroom 2.0 Beta... however I also have Lightzone 2.5... I have to be honest (even as a die hard Adobe fan) I prefer Lightzone... Its easier to use, and a LOT more flexible that LR...

Thread: Saving Backup to CD? See this from Aug 2003. | Forum: Photography
I dont have the time unfortunately to read the entire thread, so I hope Im not repeating anything, anyone else may have mentioned... This has happened to me a good few times... and it has meant me losing a great deal of data because of it... When writing from drive to drive, or from drive to media (cd, dvd etc etc...) The data transfer is buffered... and sometimes you will encounter buffer over run... its suppsoed to sync the data transfer so its not reading faster than the writing, or visa versa... And what happens is the file header data gets corrupted... If you "view hidden and syatem files" you will notice there is a windows file named thumbnails.db... which is essentially the saved thumbnail file... which is why the thumbnail's all look fine, even though the file itself is corrupted... Unfortunately, I dont think there is a header repair application to my knowledge :(

Kort is right methinks... the Nikon lenses have coatings which prevent this if I remember correctly... If you use lenses with aspherical elements, it will also stop this from happening... I think the technical term is, "lens refraction"... Im open to correction here though :) A lens hood would help to a certain degree though...

Thread: Hello again :) | Forum: Photography
Company is coming on okay, but as people say, it takes about three years before things start off properly... Im shooting mostly still, portfolio's for models (test shoots for agencies etc etc...), but am slowly getting into doing more commercial work for store catalogues. Which is where they money lies...
On the lookout for some new L series lenses and perhaps a 2'nd hand 5D... mine is ummmm... a tad tired :) SO if you hear of anything please will you let me know... Id really appreciate it...

Thread: Sharpen or Unsharp mask? | Forum: Photography
I stopped using the PS native sharpening options... as some site's have their own embedded optimizing scripts which 9/10 play havoc with your images, as Im under the impression they use some sort of Bilinear sharpening script when re-sizing... which means it usually gets sharpened twice... the end product looks like you took the shot using a mobile phone :(
So I inevitably use Noise Ninja PS plugin to smoothe and sharpen if neccesary... this way, whatever you use the image for, whether its uploading or printing, the end results are completely satisfactory...

Thread: Lens Filters | Forum: Photography
MHO is use lens hoods whenever possible, as Ive noticed image degradation on even some of the most expensive filters like Tiffen's and Hoya's... however if youre shooting, as you say near the beach, I'd recommend using a filter instead (circular polarisers are great on seascapes etc...), as Iv found the salt tends to pack onto the glass, and its just a nasty business trying to clean it off in the wind and grit... Another trick I learned when changing lenses outdoors, is to do this inside a clear plastic bag... this prevents the nasties getting onto your sensor... it saves having to schedule a panic attack for yourself, and cleaning the sensor :)

Thread: Lighting for Digital - Strobes, Hot Lights, or Cool Lights? | Forum: Photography
Hiya Xoteric...
Hot lights (redheads) are nice to have as additional lighting sources, as I find I still use them every now and again. If youre on a budget, and would like to experiment a little... consider buying some builders ligths... the kinds folks use a security lights outside their houses... The operate on Halogen lamps, which can probably fry a suckling pig in uder 15 mins... so Id go easy on them :) Try a 500 Watt, as the 1000 is just ridiculously hot... They have a u shaped bracket that you can screw onto a quick release plate of any sturdy tripod... I find I prefer using continuous lighting for rim effects etc... and sometimes pack shots... (remember to set your white balance accordingly before shooting under these) Other forms of "cold lighting" is are quartz lights or daylight balanced flourescents.... But they tend to give you a very "flat" type of lighting scenario, and takes out 2 dimensions... which isnt always great... it does have its uses though if you shoot jewellery etc etc...
However for digital I rather recommend strobe lighting... consider monoblock heads with built in modeling lamps... Look at Jinbei's... I in the past have used Elinchroms, Hensels, Electra's and Pro Photo's... but I still prefer Jinbei's... due to a number of reasons... The build is really good (steel casings, and built in fans for cooling... as opposed to the more expensive brands that dont have cooling) This comes in handy if youre using a snoot, for a long period... They use the same "3 claw" fitting as the VERY expensive Broncholor's... so the light modifiers (accesories) are interchangeable between the two brands.... The kits come with air cushioned stands, and they have stepless power... The best part is though... that theyre like maybe a 1/4 of the price of most of the other name brands....
I hope this helps :)
