Quote - hello again, i'm havin a lot of problems with vue 8 xstream. i dono if flicker only exist in the xstream version but flickering is all i get when i render. i made a map for final gather I tweaked all the possible settings and nothing much.
Is there any tip to not having flicker ?
thanks[/quoteYou'll never reduce the flickering. Vue is only good for stills. I bought vue infinite 2 or 3 years back for $600 and still feel ripped off. They even lied about a special offer they were running at the time.
Anyway ... I digress. Vue sucks. Don't buy it.

Quote - Poser 7 is expensive?
Take a look at 3d studio max, lightwave, zbrush, and xsi, and then get back to me.
Poser 7 is pretty dang dirt cheap.
You can't model anything with Poser. All the apps you listed have the ability to create, texture, uvmap, etc .... Plus they all have commercial quality render engines.
I love Poser, but it's nothing more than a tool to assemble content created elsewhere, animate it and render it with an outdated render engine.

That's odd. I mean, somebody somewhere is able to save or create .veg objects.
Why can't we?
I've asked Vue support how to do it, I'll post the "how to" here.

Hello ...? Anybody ...?
So does this mean no new object can be converted to a "plant" type?
There has to be a way.

But I need to change the shape to something like my sample. These are just metablobs, which work great, but wind doesn't consider them as trees so they don't sway.
So surely there is a way to save them or convert them to plants.

Quote - This is a thread about Crysis and real-time scenes editors.
Please do not turn it into another running commentary about Vue or e-on.
Gotcha. No more posts about vue on the vue forum.

Quote - I have been disappointed many times before by softs that looked amazing in demos and didn't live up to their expectations.
So true. I bought vue 6 infinite based on it's animation demo reel.

Kalil,
If you want "no atmosphere," go to load atmosphere: effects: others: to find "no atmosphere."
That's it.
I hope that's what you were asking.

Quote - Can any jpg be used as an environment or background to create an HDRI type render?
No. Not for a background, however it will light your scene. But you can't be sure which part of the image will be used for lighting. And if you do use it for background, you'll only get some exploded section of your image with no way to adjust.
You could load your image as a "back drop" for the camera and use the image for "separate illumination map," but you wont be able to catch shadows on your backdrop.
This feature needs work! However it does work great for the two images that come with vue.
If you find any tutorials on making HDRI images for Vue, PLEASE post them.

In vue's manual, they address "the dreaded flickering that is so typical
of computer graphics animations."
Those are their words, so I know it's not just me.

Has anyone with actual animation experience and is willing to share some details tried rendering out in passes, then mastering the shot in a compositing program like combustion or AE?
I saw where Pendulum Studio does a final composite in AE, but it didn't say if they use passes from Vue or the whole clip. Pendulum also said we can get "95% of the feel we want in vue." So I can only guess that the final 5% means compositing?
And guys, I can go read vue's website and brochures, so that's not really help. But thank you anyway.
I can't live on water either. I have a shot at doing some matte painting for a small production company, but so far I can't even show them a sample. So I'm really trying to get to the bottom of this and get some results. If I've seemed cross, it's because I'm on a strict time line.

Hey Phoul. True, he might not want to give away all his secrets, I certainly understand that. But this isn't a matter of just tweaking or AA, this is a problem with the software, as far as animation is concerned.
Just render out five or ten frames and scrub through them. You'll see what I mean. You would have to blur the scene beyond recognition to get rid of what I'm talking about.
