This is simply a business decision. RMP has looked at their numbers, made a few projections and figured they can deal with the loss of certain brokered items. The sheer volume this site does pretty much gives them carte blanche on what they want in their sandbox. Art and Business do not get along very well, but they can be made to play together in a stiltedly amicable way. As a broker, you need to look at your bottom line, make a few projections and see if you can deal with the loss of sales. Or if you need to seek a different brokerage for what RMP no longer allows to be sold in their sandbox.

Having been burned for around 40k even though I had a rock solid contract with a 50% compensation fee in the event the project failed, I can commiserate with the merchants that got tangled up in this fiasco. That being said, I just have to ask. Since Rosity and the PTB have NEVER listened to the merchants and gone ahead and done their own thing, why did you think this time would be different? I mean you had warning. Many of the merchants have said they had questions, pointed out flaws and such with the standard Shut up, we have our own agenda stock answer from the PTB. What made you think this would be any different? Additionally, while I have absolutely nothing against 3rd party characters, historically these have not done well, even with a LARGE amount of backing from heavy hitting merchants. Again I ask, why did you think this would be different? If it sounds too good to be true, typically, that is because it is. While the concept of Renda is a good one, did you really expect Rosity to pull it off? At the very least they were using YOU to market their product, counting on YOUR customers that YOU worked hard to acquire, so that their product would sell. In short, they USED you. Why didnt you get contracts? It is standard practice to get a contract in case a project fails to recover YOUR expenses. In this case, considering the source of the publishing house, I would not have done anything without ink and hard signatures and a legally binding contract. While Rosity has covered their asses and perhaps taken a loss, what is the next step for the merchants who have taken a hard hit? They have to somehow repair their relationship with their customers. Is Rosity going to gouge them yet again by refunding sales on their items now that Renda has obviously been tarnished? Most of these people spent a goodly amount of time producing products for this Greek tragedy, so is Rosity just going to smile and them and say Sorry, Tough Luck there.? Aside from damaging their reputation (yeah, I know, Rosity has a reputation to damage?) They have seriously hurt any upcoming original characters with their usual disregard to those of us in the trenches making money for them. The repercussions from this will affect merchants from all brokerages for a long time.

Isn't Renderosity's policy to pull a product under investigation?<<< Doing that would admit culpability

OK, either it's being suggested that we're all insane, or somebody just watched last nights re-run of Angel. What I don't understand is why you feel compelled to add your two cents about an issue that doesn't directly concern you, since you didn't have anything to do with the contests, and you obviously don't care<< I'm not sure the personal attack is warrented here. I never said I don't care, I just pointed out that the effort is futile. Those of us who have been here for 6+ years have seen this happen time and again and it never gets resolved. I think your hostility is misdirected. I'm not responsible for the managements decisions, I'm just pointing out that it is unlikely for management to be concerned that you are annoyed or upset.

Boycotting is a perfectly aceptable means to get a message across. << The problem with that is, you have to have a rather large amount of people to boycott. I doubt you could get enough people to care. And as I pointed out earlier, this happens every year about this time. Object all you wish, it won't change things. The definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over and expecting a different outcome.

Ok Hisminky but without us purchasing or uploading images they'd have an empty big house<< Its a very bad assumption thinking we are indispensable. For everyone one persoan that "leaves this site for good" three more take their place. So, it's doubtful that they would ever have an empty house. They know it too. Besides, more than 90% of those that "leave this site forever" eventually come back, even if they are banned in every known incarnation.

Come on people, this is Renderosity's sand box. They can make the rules however they want and can change them every 20 minutes if they are so inclined. They pay for the bandwidth, they call the shots, Period. We are the beggers here. It's not their responsibility to keep an accurate portfolio for you, or document your work, its YOUR responsibility.

Once you have the tutorial, its time to start activing marketing. Use my list of publishers that purchase art from unagented illustrators. These publishers are very approachable. Don't wait. Just Do It.

Thanks dialyn. I would have paid 3X the price for this information 3 years ago. I had to learn by trial and error. It's really not as scary as it sounds as long as you present a professional attitude to the assorted publishers and editors. They can be the nicest people, and quite a few of them have referred me to other publishers and editors. It's a roller coaster ride I completely enjoy. And most times it has been very lucrative.
