I know, that drives me nuts...I've played around with a Copy of C6 and found that if you set the Transposer scaling units to around 80-100, you can get good results versus the internal objects and vegetation that Carrara has.

I'm gonna throw in on this one as well, and say that you still need Transposer.
Mainly for large scenes where memory overhead is critical.ย When you import stuff using the Carrara importer, you are taking the bones and all the posing into Carrara which causes a lot of memory to be used.ย It's the same thing when I try to pull DAZ Studio formatted files into Carrara as well.ย I can get away with multiple V3/M3 figures with Transposer as the importer, whereas I'm lucky if I can get two done without memory allocation errors in a fully built scene.ย
And for the record, the most characters I have pulled off in a scene are three V3's, an M3, and a Don, all fully clothed in the Mog Ruith interior, all handled through Transposer...

Quote - @JamesRoden- Just out of curiosity, are you running Windows2000? There was a mention about this message on Microsoft's support site.
Nope, I'm camped out on XP Service Pack 2, Media Center Edition :)

Quote - James, I believe some files are for Mac (name starting with "._") and others for Windows.
I figured that much, but I keep on getting messages when I extract the zip file that say: "Cannot Copy File, Cannot Read from source or disk"

Thread: So, do I go Carrera? | Forum: Carrara
I**'ve been using Poser since P4 (currently using P6).ย I've played a little with Vue, 3DS Max, and am pretty good with Rhino.ย Seeing the price on Carrera 6 got me thinking about giving it a try.ย **
Is it worth it?
Yes, it is.ย I won't touch Vue or anything else for that matter when it comes to rendering PZ3 figures and artwork these days.ย You can get dang near any kind of result with jit with the right settings and content.ย (heck, I've even gotten realistic rain and snow within it by playing around with the multi-surface replicator.
Is the rendering engine that much better than Firefly?
What used to take 15 hours in Firefly (Or wouldn't work at all) takes 15 minutes.ย The farthest I have pushed Carrara and still had it work was with a Don, a Judy, A V3, an M3, a freebie Robot, an S3, and the BRC Cloisters scene from DAZ and had it render fine (did this on a 2gig of RAM machine BTW) and had things render just fine.ย Firefly would have rolled over and died...and maybe occasionally twitched.
is the interface pretty user friendly?
If you can figure out Bryce and Poser, you can figure out this.
**ย Will it wash and darn my old socks for me?
**Not as is, but there is probably a plugin out there that will get it done ;)

Thread: How Do I Create a Starfield in Carrara | Forum: Carrara
Quote - I was looking for a preset in Carrara 5 Standard for a starfield but I couldn't find any.ย How do I create a space scene/ starfield in Carrara.
You help is greatly appreciated!
Another way I have managed to do it is by using one of the space scenes withing Carrara, and deleting everything but the outermost sphere.ย It has a pretty good starfield texture on it, and I have used it for some scenes here and there with pretty good results.

Thread: Carrara 6 New Features Summary | Forum: Carrara
Does anybody know if things like DAZ Studio plugins carry over?
If you do a character with something like PWGhost, and then export the character from Studio into Carrara...does the Ghosted characters shaders and stuff carry over?ย Will it look "ghosted"?

Thread: Carrara 6 New Features Summary | Forum: Carrara
My question about the new C6 is simple (I think)
Is it possible to use volumetric shaders/materials on objects?
Like for example, I wanted to make a persons skin look like vapor or smoke, can it be done in Carrara 6?
I'm probably gona nab the thing anyway (especially with how much I love C5 Pro) But the shader thing has been a quest of mine for a while.

Thread: Bryce and 64 bit | Forum: Bryce
I've been thinking of the dual core scenario for a while. Currently, I'm running a HP zd7000 3.06 P4 machine with a gig of RAM. I have one of the first workig Hyper Thread processors and one of the things that I have been hoping for is that Bryce eventually gets multiple processor/video card render support. (Oh course, I am also hoping that they switch Rendering engines over to the 3Delight setup, but that may be too much to ask.) My big problem is that I haven't really been keeping track of stuff hardware wise over the last coouple of years...things have started to shift enough that I am having a rotten time keeping track of stuff. Unfortunately, the requirements for our form of artwork is a bit different than most people need for their home computers.

Thread: P6 SR1 updater is available now | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I concur with Casette here...the memory bug is here and is even active when trying to use the Poser 4 render engine from within Poser 6. Using all the "new features". Heh, right now I am having difficulty using some of the old.
I am considering strongly stepping up to 2 gigs of ram from the 1 gig that I have now...but what if that still doesn't solve the problem?
Sigh...
