The background HDRI is always very washed out in the window, no matter which settings I try - and I tried a lot, really!

Yes, Marcello, I've done that with the light cone now, thank you :o) But no IES (sorry, I still don't know what this is....)
Mark, I don't get this - you've put in a HDRI and where did you put the shader? On the light? Sorry, seems that my mind is blocked at the moment blush

Thank you, the light cone setting with the 3D shadow worked instantly and I have to say that your scene resembles mine a lot regarding the POV and Room and light idea :o)Â
I even didn't need to render the light as a separate layer, everything renders smooth even with GI.
THANK YOU! Now I can keep on working doing a happy dance

Hey Gib,
I'm a little bit late, but perhaps it's still useful.
Sometimes I have the same problem, especially with close-up portraits like this, but the blur is always there, except that I had to increase the amount of blur extremely. Then something showed up at the end of the render. It's like in the example MatCreator pointed out.
Did you find a solution? I'm curious, as always :biggrin:

Alright... the pony isn't pink, but it's "little" and finally finished! Thanks to Imago3D, who did all the rigging for me, I'm finally able to work with MLP and this is the first render:
