Agreed,
I actually think the LuxRender one looks much better.!!.
S.K.
It is my opnion too. In Lux render I see the snow more realistic than in 3Delight render.

Hi Charley!
If you don't mind, can you share some more details about the lightning setup for this lovely image? I am also specially interested in how you setup the material for the floor light's cover glass. I cannot get a similar effect as in your image.
Cheers!
Mario
Well Mario.. I had to re-open the scene to find I did not save the settings applied to the cover glass.. So I had to re-create them.
I set the cover glass to matte-translucent. Reflection color 84 84 84, Transmission color 220 198 189. I also used the original texture as Transmission texture. Over expose limiter On.
The effect on the cover glass is also influenced by the settings in Luxrender itself. Gamma / Filmresponse / Bloom settings you can see in the image here below. (for full view use link provided at the top of this post)
Inside the cover glass is a small meshlight ( 1/5th of the diameter of the cover glass)emitting light upwards.
The other lights used are two MeshSpots with IES photometry file pointing at the girl and an IBL light casting light through the window.
Does this help?
Sorry for disturb you. This helps a lot.
I will try to setup an image using this info and post it here.
Thank you!

Quote - Here is my 'Easy Pose System' for Reality meshlights. You can download it from Sharecg. Use the link at the top of this post if you want to download it.
I want to thank Amethst25 for testing it and helping me making the Guide comprehensive!
Glad I 'choose' you for testing sweetie! wink (she knows why ;) )
Two images: one that shows what's in the package, one that shows a simple scene with two MeshSpots.
Hope some of you find this useful. :)
Thanks! Very appreciated and useful.

Oh... one last thing about DIM once this is off the thread subject. You always will get an entry in the Products section of Content Library despite the product lacks metadata. Very nice.
@Bob, if You need any additional information about DIM, please PM. I prefer let the thread follow the subject.

Quote - I tried out the new installer yesterday and I have to admit it does make it easier to install new items. It did suggest I delete everyhing and re-install it thru the installer but I didn't do that, I just installed the ones that I have been missing since I lost my hard drive.
I just wish the would come up with better way of loading the files. Instead of loading outfits in figures, MAT's into Pose, and props, well.... into props why not put all the items for that outfit together. That is how I have mine arranged so I don't have to keep hunting for what I want.
You can get all related files togheter in the Products column in Content Library, or selecting the product in Smart Content Products tab where all files for that product will show does matter if is a morph or a material preset.
I think is some hard to give up old habits. I used to have my content in a very hierarchical structure at the system level and in Content Library. I just give up to this method and I am using the Metadata to sort my files and Smart Content do load what I want. It works nice to me. It is just my way.

Quote - I am wondering does one need to re install content using the bit rock installer or can I just copy from my runtime folder & I think it was mentioned that one has to create a new location?
Are you talking about the new DAZ Install Manager? If yes, so the answer is no, you don't need re-install nothing, but you should re-install if you want DIM track which products are installed. DIM will track only products which it installed.
You don't need use DIM to install your downloaded content. You can download your products and unarchive the downloaded zip file and install it manually. DIM will not keep track of what and where things were installed.
You can use a dummy folder to install a product with DIM and move the files to your working folders after arrange the stuff as you want, and by this way DIM keep track of what was installed.
An empty folder is not mandatory, is recommended. While the default path set by DIM, there is no requirement to use the default path, if for some reason that path does not suit your needs. You can add unlimited install directories and delete the default path set by DIM.

Quote - Well, I spent hours on the Mac version of DS 4.5.1.6, or something like that, uninstalling and then reinstalling those Genesis files. The Duplicat ID #s problem persists. I could not get Smart Content to work. Finally, after reading many posts on the DAZ site, I uninstalled DS, uninstalled the CMS database, uninstalled Genesis Essentials (again), removed old Preferences files, etc. I installed the latest version of DS, Genesis Essentials, the CMS database. The result? Still Duplicate IDs, Smart Content still does not work, and Surfaces, which previously worked, is now as inert as Smart Content. A lot of work and it's worse than ever. I paid for the 4.5 PRO version, too, so, no, it's not exactly free for me.
I have DS 4.5.1.56 PRO, the last stable version, installed on My Mac running OSX 10.8.2 and can confirm again: no Duplicate ID problem. Smart Content works like a charm and I really like it. Ever so I need make some adjustments to the packged metadata, I cannot to think my workflow without Smart Content. It is so much easy and funny...
You can use the free "Fix Duplicate IDs" script from Richard Haseltine to fix the issue, but as said, the best path is update the troubled product downloading an updated installer or give a try to the new DAZ Install Manager.
I am available if you feel that I could help you to fix your issues. Currently I have zero problems with my DS installation, another than some random crashes when navigating on the content library which is caused by a specific bug in Valentina Database which is the database engine driven Content Library and Smart Content.

Quote - Hi Mario.
Thank you for your recognition about the Poser Add-on framework, it's very much appreciated. SM deserves, of course, the praise because they developed it trusting a perfect stranger, Yours Truly :)
I can't say anything but it's a good thing that you kept up with Poser because... aww crap I can't say anything. But you'll be glad :)
You deserve it, and I am sure that DAZ also knows about.
Hum, secrets about Poser... now you get all my attention! i will sleep with some dreams...

Quote - Whats the point of having a lighter format when loading times are hampered by several duplication ID messages that prevents the scene from loading? I have tried EVERYTHING to fix them to no avail.. If I want to remove something just have to find my organized listed file and delete the items. As for my poser runtime folder lets just say thats why I keep it on a 1T external drive...LOL Paolo like most here will have to wait for DS version.. What is EULA???
Well, I have 3,200 from DAZ marketplace and none Duplicate ID problem. The Duplicate ID issue is an specific problem to DAZ Studio 4 users and it is solved downloading updated versions of the troubled products. That is a rare issue in DAZ Studio 4.5 solved in the same way. Alas, version 4.5 is much better than version 4.0 and I really don't understand why someone don't make the upgrade. It's free at last...
EULA (Argh!) is stands to End User License Agreement

Quote - OT another genuis move by DAZ. They put out a content manager the catch you have to re install ALL of your content. I never saved the uninstallers and i have close to 200G. God forbid they could of provided an existing content importer... I know Mikey won't like this....
Quote - I'm not going to reinstall anything. The old installers are fine and I really don't buy anything more at DAZ anyway. I have become a big fan of delivery via zipfiles. That is the easiest and most stable system. Zipfiles forever!
Don't let bad feelings damage yours good thinkings. DAZ was in your own right to redefine the Forum TOS and the EULA. We don't need agree with them, and for sure, they managed the changes very bad, but that is not something which should surprise anyone. Miscommunication had been a constant from DAZ.
Away from the business side, DAZ have made a lot of progress in areas where they are always faulty. The Documentation about DAZ Studio is better than one year ago. DAZ Studio 4.5 is very stable and functional. The new DSON format is a real evolution as format to hold our files and the most important step to make it interchangeable with other applications. Genesis is really a better figure than the venerable Generation 4, and now that it works in Poser, it will find a new space to grow and develop. You, Paolo, and Smith Micro, deserves a lot of credit for bring Genesis to Poser. We know that Reality needed a better framework than the ancient Python Scripting Language provided. In an indirect way you pavemented the road that turned Genesis an option in Poser, and I feel to many other developers who will use this new framework to bring us amazing plug-ins and utilities.
I really have an emotional feeling with Poser. I used every version since version 1.0, but ever so I have Poser Pro 2012 installed on my Mac I rarely use it. DAZ Studio is, to me, very fluid and more configurable. I wouldn't say never, but it is improbable that I return to use it. Maybe a little, while Reality 3 for DS is waiting your turn...
Anyway, the DIM (DAZ Install Manager) is a very nice utility. You don't need uninstall any content if you don't want to do it. This step is only necessary if you want give to DIM the knowledge of what it is installed. I choose this path as I wish to clean my content installation, but I am making this on product by product basis, with a new directory for the DIM installed content and my old installed content. The tool is very smart and works like a charm. You should give it a try before take assumptions. Just my opinion...
