That's a wonderful image Wildman2. Will you actually be animating the water? I remember there once was a tutorial for a rolling seascape, but I can't remember where. I did try it, but it was on a 386 / 1GHz based computer, so I was heavily restricted.

Thanks, Mr Bryster. I hadn't ever considered the possibility of user-defined leaves until you set the challenge. It was actually a lot easier than I expected.

Check position of water plane. Select water plane. (You can do this by clicking Infinite Planes in row of icons at bottom below work space. (Grey icon second from left - mouse over displays name) When plane turns red, select letter 'A' from icons that appear on left of plane. Check that Origin and Position show a value more than zero.
You may find two planes are listed when selecting Infinite plains. The first will be the plane that appears when you open Bryce. Its location - Position and Origin should be zero or less than location of water plane.
On your other post - locating objects, can you select the tree by clicking on the tree icon (fourth icon from left) in the bottom row of icons? If you can, select 'A' again and check that Locked button is not selected.

It's the requirement for adding an image that puts me off submitting to Renderosity contests. I'm a writer, not an artist. Writing is difficult enough without adding images. If a "picture paints a thousand words," I'd give up writing in an instant to become an artist, if I could.

Thread: Magazine Submissions | Forum: Writers
I was quite interested, at first, until I read the rules and requirements. I don't write Science Fiction or fantasy. Most of my tales carry an element of the occult and horror. I'm certain they would be rejected.
In my opinion, 7K to 20K is far too long for a short story. If I submit a short story for publication, most publishers request a word count of 2K to 7K.
Having been a member of many writing groups, I've come to realise a reader's attention wanes after a couple of thousand words. Unless the writing is formatted like an e-book, it becomes tedious scrolling down through a thousand lines of text on a web page or blog, particularly when trying to find a place they finished in an earlier reading session. If I ever submit a piece of more than 3K words to a blog, I split it into sections like chapters.
The section that reads, "All submissions are expected to meet the highest standards of publication before submission," to me sounds too draconian. It becomes almost impossible for a writer to edit their own work to that sort of level. I agree that the writer should edit carefully--bad grammar and spelling makes a piece difficult to read. However, as stated, "There is no monetary compensation for publication;" employing a professional editor is, to most writers, not an option.
Further to this, does Renderosity differentiate between UK English spelling and grammar, and US English?

Thread: Weekly Writers Challenge - Week of 4/11/16 | Forum: Writers
Finally, I get around to a reply for this challenge. Sorry for the delay.
As a writer whose genre of choice just happens to be Gothic horror, I am drawn to those novels with an opening suggesting of death. My favourite opening in a novel comes from A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens: Horror with more than a hint of dark humour.
"Marley was dead: to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker, and the chief mourner. Scrooge signed it. And Scrooge's name was good upon 'Change, for anything he chose to put his hand to. Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail."
This opening is from my unfinished NaNoWriMo attempt of five years ago, The Chrystal Mask.
Two events in the life of Berkley C James had almost as much significance to him as the big bang to the creation of the universe. The first was when he met Serilla Cassajian, the second was at his death. Of the two, the former was probably of greater importance. If the chance meeting with Serilla Cassajian had not occurred, then he might not have died. Or at least, not so soon.

Don't think I've ever been inspired to write from a picture. For me, it is usually a piece of music or a song that conjures up an image in my mind and inspires me to tell the story. I used to write for a weekly blog entitled FridayFrights, so here are a couple of links to stories published on that blog.
http://www.fridayfrights.ws/2015/02/the-last-tango-by-robert-read.html The Last Tango is set in Paris at the beginning of the twentieth century. The story was inspired by the song, Tango In The Night, by Fleetwood Mac
http://www.fridayfrights.ws/2015/03/dead-flowers-by-robert-read.html Dead Flowers was inspired by the Rolling Stones song of the same name.
I should add a warning. FridayFrights is a blog with a horror theme, and both stories are intended to reflect the horror genre.

Even fantasy I try to keep realistic. Fifty-two seconds is so short a length of time to work out what I could take. How would I be dressed, for instance? If this was early morning or late at night, I see my character dressed like Arthur Dent – Hitch-hikers Guide... but would this be adequate for a random place and time?
There is a near certainty that anything electrical would be useless. Even battery powered would have a short life, so forget cell-phones, computer / tablet / calculators. Anything too technical could cause the local inhabitants of this random time to make accusation of witchcraft, and we know how that would end with stakes and log fires.
I guess the preliminary would be to grab a bag and shovel in as much tinned and dried food as I could carry. A bottle or two of drinking water would be good to aid survival until I found a further source of supply. A weapon would be nice, but as, realistically, I keep nothing suitable in the house, I would have to make do with a sharp knife. A box of matches would be useful. Perhaps, if I had a few seconds to spare, I could run out to the shed and select an axe.
Something with which to barter with the natives would be useful, although, realistically again, I have no precious metals or jewellery to hand. Present day money would have no value in times past.
I would also pick up the pet cat, or dog, just because I would not like to see their life abruptly terminated.
