Thread: Bryce Memory Management Question | Forum: Bryce
Hehe - I've got a mac, just haven't brought it up to speed yet (it's an older machine, only a 350 G3 running 9.2.1.... I rebuilt my machine tonight w/ XP-PRO instead of Home; PRO has much better memory management, so maybe that'll help....

Thanks, guys - I have to get Poser up and running, it seems, after a rebuild, and then we'll take it from there. I appreciate the comments, they've helped! :) - N
Thread: I Suck! | Forum: Bryce
Man, I'm with you. I'm totally in a slump right now as well. I find myself coming up with all these ideas in my head, and then I sit down in front of the computer and try to draw them and I end up with bad stick figure art. And I get so frustrated that I just end up walking away. A part of my problem, at least, is that I really have no idea what I'm doing whatsoever. Another part is a lack of inspiration. (The third part is a lack of time, but that's something I have to fix independently of the other two). How do I solve this? I start reading the tutorials, and I do what someone else said - I go for walks and get the hell away from my computer for a while. Just a quick walk down the street can give me an image that I'd like to attempt. Search through the galleries here and see what some of the other artists have come up with. I know that Rochr and Mel3d have been constant sources of inspiration for me, just to name two, and I find myself trying to emulate what they've done. Sometimes I succeed, and the small victories eventually will turn into bigger ones. So there's my $.02 - for what it's worth.

I was born a poor white boy in the middle of a blizzard... :) Ok. Seriously - I'm a LAN Administrator for Lexicon, Inc. in Bedford, Massachusetts, which is a subsidiary of Harman Industries. We make high-end sound-gear for home theaters, such as receivers and DVD players. By high end, I mean our DVD player costs $8000. That's the right amount of zeroes there. Lexicon also makes signal processors and reverb units for recording studios, but that's all done in Utah. Previous to this I have been: tour guide for the Boston Tea Party sign-maker for Charrette night manager for Tower Records petroleum transfer engineer (read: gas station attendant)

Thread: Argh...c'mon brain THINK OF SOMETHING... | Forum: Bryce
Since I've started playing with Bryce, my whole life has been artist's block. What helps me? I go to the park and take pictures, then try to render them. Walk around Boston and see if i can't draw that building. Or that one. I've been playing Unreal 2K3 and thinking, "Hmm... Wonder if I can't draw that map in Bryce..." Another fun thing to do is, when you're sitting in front of the computer, stumped - IM one of your friends and say, "Give me something to draw. first thing that comes to your head." Although, I almost ended this practice when a friend of mine said, "The Double Helix!", it's still an on-the-spot challenge that can lead to some interesting images. Hope these help.
